Tony Adams has had to fend a few questions asking why he left Jermain Defoe out of our starting 11 at Liverpool during the week - but why should he have to justify what he does?
Either way, Adams has, with him again insisting this was merely tactical and he is one of the England mans biggest fans: 'I am Jermain's biggest fan. Defoe wasn't dropped, of course not. I will make tactical decisions, technical decisions and emotional decisions. This time it was a tactical one.
'I want Jermain to be the top goalscorer for Portsmouth, he will be. I want him to be top scorer in the league and I think he can.
'But against the league leaders I wanted something different. We have been getting smashed up away from home, we have lost 3-0 at Braga, 6-0 at Manchester City.
'I felt we needed to be resilient and hard to beat first time out for me. That is why Jermain was rested.
'Jermain took it fine, he is 100 per cent behind me. I have had great support from everybody, but particularly from Defoe.'
I had absolutely no problem with Adams leaving out Defoe, clearly he is a player you would rather see play but tactically it was exactly what we had to do.
The only thing that Adams probably did do wrong was not bringing him on sooner, something he admits to maybe doing wrong: 'I am a big fan of Defoe, maybe it was crazy to keep him on the bench for so long, but next time out it will be different.
'Next time it may be Crouch left out, who knows. We have Wigan at home on Saturday and maybe they will both play.'
I would be amazed if the little and large partnership was not re-united again this weekend against Wigan - who I hope, and have this feeling in fact might, just well feel the brunt of some built up frustration and get a spanking as we look to end a difficult week in a very positive way.
This fixtures also starts a run of games that we must be looking to gain plenty of points from - on paper we could win the lot... at least in the league, the 'small matter' of Milan in the uefa cup might be a little tougher!
==========
Also, reports are growing that Mohammed Taidara - a 19-year-old forward who plays for Paris St Germain - could become his first signing... Any info on his that people have would be welcomed.
Thoughts on all please guys!
