Gaining experience or refreshing your skills is never a bad thing. Occasionally 'The Portsmouth FC School for Footballers' sends some up and coming talent or pupils requiring refresher courses to other schools for short periods. In the final instalment of this week's articles resident teacher 'PFCGino' examines recent performances and provides his grading for those pupils who are currently 'on placement'.
Matt Ritchie - Dagenham & Redbridge
The Pompey defender'
s Dagenham and Redbridge lost 3-0 away to Darlington, but don't let that fool you. After Darlington went 1-0 up, the young centre-back had a chance to level the scores but had his header deflected off the line. He was substituted after 71 minutes in what was a distinctly average performance, but he looks like a promising youngster so he earns himself a C+.
J-F Christophe - Southend United
Jean-Francois Christophe - a promising Pompey youngster - featured in a disappointing 4-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers. He, like the rest of his team, was in and out and never really felt at home in the game, so an average C would be appropriate.
Martin Cranie & Linvoy Primus - Charlton
As stated above Charlton drew 1-1 with Burnley at the Valley. Despite Todorov's important contribution, the Addicks defence (50% of which consisted of Portsmouth players) were shocking. Linvoy is yet to return to form following his injury (as evidenced by being subbed at half time), and Martin Cranie is still young but on this performance needs to learn more about the game before plying his trade in the Premiership. The pair of them are given Ds.
Asmir Begovic - Yeovil Town
Pompey's promising young keeper kept a clean sheet as Yeovil drew 0-0 at home with Leyton Orient. In what was in reality a poor match - both teams are in the bottom four of League One - Begovic kept his cool to keep the Orient strikers from scoring, and earns himself a B.
Danijel Subotic and Andrea Mutombo- Zulte Waregem
Portsmouth's affiliate club currently have two Portsmouth players on loan with them - Danijel Subotic and Andrea Mutombo. On Saturday, Waregem beat Roeselare 3-0, with only Mutombo 'featuring' as an unused substitute. Makes you wonder why they went there in the first place!!
Joel Ward - Bournemouth
Joel Ward came on as a late substitute in their 1-0 home defeat to Lincoln, but only played 5 minutes. No grade awarded due to tardiness.
