The Old School Tie - On Placement

The Old School Tie - On Placement

Gaining experience or refreshing your skills is never a bad thing. Occasionally 'The Portsmouth FC School for Footballers' sends some up and coming talent or pupils requiring refresher courses to other schools for short periods. In the final instalment of this week's articles resident teacher 'PFCGino' examines recent performances and provides his grading for those pupils who are currently 'on placement'.

Matt Ritchie - Dagenham & Redbridge
The Pompey defender'
s Dagenham and Redbridge lost 3-0 away to Darlington, but don't let that fool you. After Darlington went 1-0 up, the young centre-back had a chance to level the scores but had his header deflected off the line. He was substituted after 71 minutes in what was a distinctly average performance, but he looks like a promising youngster so he earns himself a C+.

J-F Christophe - Southend United
Jean-Francois Christophe - a promising Pompey youngster - featured in a disappointing 4-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers. He, like the rest of his team, was in and out and never really felt at home in the game, so an average C would be appropriate.

Martin Cranie & Linvoy Primus - Charlton
As stated above Charlton drew 1-1 with Burnley at the Valley. Despite Todorov's important contribution, the Addicks defence (50% of which consisted of Portsmouth players) were shocking. Linvoy is yet to return to form following his injury (as evidenced by being subbed at half time), and Martin Cranie is still young but on this performance needs to learn more about the game before plying his trade in the Premiership. The pair of them are given Ds.

Asmir Begovic - Yeovil Town
Pompey's promising young keeper kept a clean sheet as Yeovil drew 0-0 at home with Leyton Orient. In what was in reality a poor match - both teams are in the bottom four of League One - Begovic kept his cool to keep the Orient strikers from scoring, and earns himself a B.

Danijel Subotic and Andrea Mutombo- Zulte Waregem
Portsmouth's affiliate club currently have two Portsmouth players on loan with them - Danijel Subotic and Andrea Mutombo. On Saturday, Waregem beat Roeselare 3-0, with only Mutombo 'featuring' as an unused substitute. Makes you wonder why they went there in the first place!!

Joel Ward - Bournemouth
Joel Ward came on as a late substitute in their 1-0 home defeat to Lincoln, but only played 5 minutes. No grade awarded due to tardiness.

Good stuff Gino helps us keep tracks. Toast will be looking at the Academy side soon and has spies at all home games.

I echo Daves comments Gino.. It's great to catch upo with a lot of the ex-pompey boys and where they are now.. Particulary liked the Foreign Exchange article and this one as these are the players we hear about the least .. Out of interest does anybody think with Harry gone we will never see Linvoy play for Pompey again ?.. Also Gino do we know how OJ is doing at Norwich ?

That's brilliant Gino - true about the Belgium connection, why go there unless you are going to get played? In saying that I thought they were a black African feeder club so on one hand I can see the dilemma : )

I do like writing these articles - Chix with regard to OJ, my sources in Norfolk tell me that Roeder left OJ out of the squad for the game against Doncaster (and subsequently the game against Derby in midweek). He's injury free, so I suspect they left him out as he was on international duty with Gambia!

Nice one Gino - keep it up mate; they're a great read (even if it takes me a week to get round to reading them!)

Seen a little bit of Linvoy playing for Charlton and he seems a long way from his old self (sadly).

Another good article Gino. We may need to get you a bigger shovel to keep digging up these stories.

No More Quarter Final Replays For Pompey

Should Portsmouth progress through to an FA Cup quarter final from the 2016/17 season onwards, the game will no longer be subject to a replay.

On this day in history...27th May

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 27th May.

Chesterfield's O'Shea targeted

Although so far Pompey have had two bids turned down for Chesterfield's O'Shea. Will, assuming another bid (as it's expected) is made, it be third time luck for the Blues?

It wasn't Real Madrid but Bristol City isn't bad!

Contrary to what I just wrote (muppet that I am) this isn't at Fratton this is at Ashton Gate with Pompey heading to Bristol City on Saturday 30th July, with a 3pm kick-off.
