Nugent wants Adams - who is in talks?

Nugent wants Adams - who is in talks?

According to the BBC and what they 'understand' Tony Adams is in talks with the club about becoming our new manager - something that I think he clearly wants, and to be fair even if we have slight doubts the majority of us would also like.

Harry Redknapp has said that he recommended Adams for the job to Peter Storrie upon his departure, other reports also say that he ruled out taking the former Arsenal captain to Spurs with him due to his Arsenal roots as he says this is not something that they would allow... well it did not stop you did it H! You grew up an Arsenal fan, despite your claims now that you were a Spurs one, the difference is I think that Adams is strong enough to resist the lure as that would seriously harm his chances of being a future Gunners manager...

Adams wants the chance to be a manager again, this is the chance for him to get it - so lets give it him I say!

Assistant managers are people that are usually groomed as natural successors to the main man when they call it a day, or whatever makes them go - he has been groomed here for the past couple of years, he knows the club and players inside out and is well respected so lets take a punt on him.

Continuity and stability is what we need, why bring in someone from outside? Give it to Adams and let Joe Jordan help him. Is it really any more of a risk than bringing in an outsider? Will they have the respect of the players that he does...

One of the current squad that is probably more than a little happy to see Harry Redknapp go is Dave Nugent and he wants Tony Adams to get the job.

Speaking to sky sports news he has backed Adams and feels that he might get more of a chance under him: 'it would be nice. He's been at the club for a while now, he knows the players and the staff, so if he gets the job then I'll be happy.

'It didn't go too well for me under Harry, but if Tony gets the job then things might go my way.

'He has a possible chance, he's favourite now, but there's a few other managers as well so it's up to Peter Storrie to decide that - but hopefully he does get it.'

Apart from the key thing that we no longer have a manager he also said that nothing has changed, the players are the same and will do a job for him - which they did on Sunday and he expects to carry on against Liverpool on Wednesday.

As for his own injury situation he hopes to be back from his latest hernia setback to be in reserve contention in a couple of weeks: 'I had an operation three weeks ago, so I've got another two weeks left yet.

'Hopefully I can start playing a few reserve games and push myself back into the first-team.

'I don't want to set any targets, though, because it's reoccurred once before and I don't want that to happen again.'

Could this be the catalyst for Nugent to finally kick start his Pompey career...

Now there's a very good reason for NOTgiving the job to Adams.

because nuge wants him to get it? will adams play him much anyway - altho 'if' defoe goes then the door opens...

If our future lies in getting bought by some moneybags from Middle East, Far East, Eastney, whatever, then a credible manager will be part of the package. This is what we have lost by losing Harry and I wonder if TA will prove as attractive (obviously you know the sort of attractive I mean as a world where HR is more physically attractive than TA is a world gone mad). If we have any chance of hanging on to good players we need someone with deep pockets and long arms to buy out Sacha.
27/10/2008 19:32:00
Well if we are forced to sell Defoe & Crouch we just might need Nugent because we will have bugger all else. God, this time last week, I was packing for Braga. Look at us know, what a nightmare!
27/10/2008 19:47:00
Beware Adams - he didn't set Wycombe alight did he!
27/10/2008 21:25:00
God wouldn't that be ironic if nugent became a super star as soon as HR left lol ok so i'm not gonna get my hopes up but it would be funny at least and yes matt its stupid how much can change in a week, and i think i may have left my jaw somewhere on the floor on sunday morning i really should go get that back lol PUP
27/10/2008 21:46:00
Hammersmith - hope buyer comes from Middle or Far East cos I can rule out Eastney!!
27/10/2008 21:59:00
(lol) HSB (eh I like that !) Would love Tone to get the job but I worry about him in the transfer market especailly if we have to sell high and buy low to balance the books... I'm fvouring Adams with Avram Grant hand holding him for a year or two just to offer a big of fresh blood and experience.. That Harry bloke is gona be a touh act to follow.... As for Nugent I'd love if he turned things around at Pompey and started banging them in but in reality I can't see that happening.... Still there's always one bright spot .. we'll probably never see Kanu play for Pompey again.. surely .. will we?... Maybe that bloke, the one who manages Spurs, will buy him..

I agree with you, Rug, I'd like to see Big Tony get the job. He's learned a lot working with Joe and Harry, and I think he's better than any of the managers we could reasonably expect to bring in. We're kidding ourselves really, if we think someone Martin Jol is going to give up a great job and come and manage us, aren't we? My second choice would be AnyoneButBigSam, who would be a huge problem for us. Had he come in a year ago while we still had Sulley, then maybe his style of play would suit us, but what use would Belhadj and Traore be in a team of defensive spoilers?
28/10/2008 01:26:00
Succeeding 'Arry is a tough task, but it's an even taller order for tall Tony to succeed Wenger. So can you guys please do us a favour: give Big Tone a chance! One day we'd love to see him back at the Arsenal, with Dennis Bergkamp his assistant or in the coaching staff. Seriously, I think he's done a good job on you guys' defence and the all-round game. He deserves a chance.
