HR on our defence, the point and 'the moron!'

HR on our defence, the point and 'the moron!'

Harry Redknapp, as usual, had plenty to say after our hard fought - yet well deserved - point at Villa Park yesterday, telling sky sports: 'I thought Sol Campbell was terrific at the back along with Sylvain . Pamarot came in and also did a good job for us.

'It was a good all-round team performance and a good away performance. I looked at the stats way into the second half and they still hadn't had a shot on goal.

'For an away team it's a difficult place to come, they're a good team.'

Our best chances came within seconds of each other in the 1st half, firstly Armand Traore saw his effort come back off the post then with the follow up with a chance that he would probably score 9 times out of 10 Jermain Defoe put his effort over the bar: 'Armand Traore had a good shot but it came back under the keeper, off the post, and Defoe volleyed his chance over. On another day he may have scored it.'

As for the sending off of Sean Davis he had no qualms with this whatsoever - and to be fair as innocuous as the 2nd booking might have been it was a booking and that meant that he had to go: 'I suppose Sean had to go, he already had a booking. It's nothing malicious but he did pull him back and it was a second yellow card unfortunately, so he had to go.'

Some t****r in the crowd felt the need to throw a coin, aimed at Redknapp or its eventual victim Phil Sharp - the linesman, I do not know but either way this kind of mindless and needless behaviour is not wanted and has no place in football and the fool involved deserves everything that they get. With the CCTV at Villa Park, not to mention people that would have been sitting next to the culprit you would hope they get what they deserve - and Villa have said they will receive a lifetime ban. Villa will not be punished, merely the perpetrator - and that is the way it should be!

Redknapp's obvious, and fair, disgust could not be hidden on this matter: 'some moron threw an object at him. Someone must have seen who did it and hopefully they'll get him on the cameras.

'We don't need people like that at football grounds, get them out and ban them for life. That's what we should do with behaviour like that.'

All in all, despite the unsavoury moment and the sending off it was a very good day at the office for us. I did not think we would see a draw, in fact I was convinced that we would see a winner by the odd goal either way, but I am more than happy with the 0-0 draw and my thinking is a point apiece was probably the fairest result.

Well written. Hope they find the guy on CCTV. Good point against a team that will finish near or above us.

Did I see "HR" and the bench having a right go at Utaka during the coin throwing incident, or am I mistaken.

Speaking as a Villa fan,I thought it was a good game between two good teams. There were some good battles all over the pitch. The ref was dreadfull the whistle went for everything.
19/10/2008 10:36:00
thats like refs everywhere, every week...they wont let games flow at all......

...but I think that is partly downt to a lot of players makiing unnecessery fouls. Having said that, it isnt an uncommon tactic for teams to try to settle there opposition by being quite physical - (something I think we do quite a bit) which often then leads the other team to be more physical, and breaks the game up even more. Bolton were the masters of it under "big sam" when they didnt let anyone play football - I think Harry is partly emulating them.

Shame about the throwing incident. We have had some really good banter with some smashing Villa fans and this just lets them down. Re: Utaka: I'm sure Harry has by now said everything he could to Utaka to try to get him to pull his finger out. I bet he's scolded him, flattered him, insulted him, cajoled him and now had a go at him in public. When is he going to swallow his pride, realise he made a mistake buying him and cut his losses. We really are a man short when Utaka plays, and no one would hold it against Harry. Everyone makes mistakes.

I'm sure the majority of Villa fans are just as appalled by this incident as everybody else. Its a shame it overshadowed a good game and a good point. Arry did seem to be having a right go at Utaka, not much else you can do, really except get rid, but to get rid someone else has to want him! Normally you'd say a player has to play a bit to sell themselves, but in Utaka's case I don't think that'll work.
19/10/2008 15:54:00
I'm sure you are right Tracey, bet we are landed with him until his contract runs out. Nice work if you can get it!

Great point, well deserved. As for Utaka, waste of spce really. Just think a few months ago we we thinking we were going to get SWP. What a world of difference!!!

i would like to see Ben Sahar given a run on the right, It wouldn't hurt. Little is also not that good in my humble opinion.
