Crouchy earns England recall

Fresh from a number of fine performances for Pompey in recent weeks, which were capped fantastically with a stunning goal today Peter Crouch has earned an England recall - the first time he has been in the senior squad as a Pompey player I believe...

Regulars David James, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe have also been selected for the world cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Belarus.

Crouch - despite still receiving sum unfair criticism - deserves his recall and hopefully his pairing at club level could get a go at international level too? I wonder if people still think he is a waste of money...

England squad:
James (Portsmouth), Green (West Ham), Carson (West Brom)

Brown (Manchester United), Johnson (Portsmouth), Terry (Chelsea), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Lescott (Everton), Upson (West Ham), A Cole (Chelsea), Bridge (Chelsea)

Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Walcott (Arsenal), Barry (Aston Villa), Jenas (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Downing (Middlesbrough), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City)

Heskey (Wigan), Crouch (Portsmouth), Rooney (Manchester United), Defoe (Portsmouth).

FOUR players in the squad and only Chelsea can match that. Shows how far we have come.
eastneydave
Well great news to end a great week. Now what odds on all 4 being on the pitch at the same time?
storagematt
Greeny's in the squad... guess it was too late to change the squad after today's abysmal performance...
RussianHammer
Well deserved he's been unselfish, & now scoring good luck to all 4 ,& England of cause.
pompeyyong
Well Matt - James is certain starter (as russianhammer says Green had a mare today but will get back on form soon) Johnson will play at home to Kaz because Fabio likes him when he wants to push forward and Brown will come back in Minsk. Up front Rooney is a certainty to start but with who? Maybe with JD and Crouch coming on as a late sub to make 4 Pompey players in the same England side..........dreams eh after Europe on Thursday.
eastneydave
I think that there is a chance that rooney WON'T start. Striking is about partnerships, and in that, it will come down to rooney and heskey or crouch and defoe. I reckon our two could get the "nod"
pompeycarpet
Jamo rolls it out to GJ who tears up the right flank, knocks it in to Crouchy who nods it down to JD - ONE-NIL! That's my version of England v Kazakhstan. Don't worry, I'm going to bed in a minute, it's been a long day.
hammersmithblue
Think he deserves it on recent performances. Who would bet against him and Defoe bagging a couple if they start??
pompey4me
Hammersmith.. don't go to bed I want to know how the match finishes ...
Chix
Great news and well deserved. We have a top quality patnership upfront which is really starting to blossom. It was only ruined by MOTD comment last night. Grrrr Alan Hansen.
sneakay
"michael owen is better than heskey, crouch, defoe"...errrm.... so, he's scorred 7 in the last 8 games (15/20 [or whatever it is] for his club, contributes to the whole team with good link up play, as well as lots of assits... and more goals... no. personally... I reckon fabio could be tempted by a 4-3-3 trying to acomodate everyone. not sure how well it would work, but it looks good in practice (crouch, defoe, rooney, and gerrard, lampard, barry)
pompeycarpet
Eastneydave, when is the last time we had four of our players in the England squad?, or even four players in any international squad?
Owenspompey
Hansen"shocking punditry" then again we dont need to take any notice of him. Three more points in the bag, 28 to safety!!
Owenspompey
I didn't think Crouchy looked entirely fit for the first few games, but whether he was or wasn't, he certainly is now, and he's looking confident and in-form too. I'm inclined to agree with Carpet about the partnerships.
PhilTaglia
totally agree Phil, he wasnt fit and that is why he was rightly left out - i think he was unlucky to miss the last squad, but certainly had to be in this time...11 goals between crouchy and defoe already, 20-30 is more than attainable!
pompeyrug
4? well done lads, progress or what!
