The Right Result - Pompey v Spurs

Sunday 28 September 2008

Tottenham Hotspur slumped to their worst start to a season in over 50 years with defeat at Portsmouth, yet a key decision went against them to deny a possible positive spark to their troubled campaign. Only trailing by a single goal in the second-half, Juande Ramos`s Spurs should have been awarded a penalty when Aaron Lennon`s dangerous cross was halted by Lassana Diarra`s outstretched arm. It`s the second Premier League game in a row that the Right Result panel has awarded a penalty to the visitors to Fratton Park.

The Right Result is a 2-1 win to Portsmouth.

As a Spurs fan I have to say, well done. We were shocking yesterday. You deserved to spank us and you did just that. Defoe should never have been allowed to leaver and you guys are reaping the benefits. Play Up Pompey... I think I might join.....

why is the right result 2-1 ... if spurs had been given the penalty ... and, allowing for the right result rules stating all penalties are goals. the game would have been 1-1 with about 30 mins to go. whos to say we would have scored again, or spurs or either! its an interesting idea that basically tells us what we already know - the referees suck at making at the right decisions! lol

As the gran in Catherine Tate would say, right result, what a load of old S***. The right result was a 2-0 Pompey win

We all have decisions go for and against us over the course of the season. Yes it was a penalty, but Spurs' luck wasn't in and it wasn't given. Tough.

"the referees suck at making at the right decisions!" - the referee's are blo*dy good at making the right decisions - and it's a very tough job too!

p4me - too be fair, most people admit that there initial reaction to that was that it was a penalty, and he did only take a very small amount of the ball...

carps, I havnt spoken to anyone who thought it looked like a pen. Look which way the ball goes. (heard Andy Gray talk about that) If there was no contact with the ball, it couldnt have gone toward the centre spot. Also th eref against spuds, nailed on pen foe them, how did he miss that? Diarras first booking, did it really warrant a yellow? The games gone soft I tells ya!

these are always 'interesting' to read - that said i do not always agree with them... to be fair ive seen penalties given for what happened with diarra, at first glance on the day - without replays - i was adament it hit him on the back, replays show it hit the arm, not that he knew alot about it...

Styles was at F.P sat 3 seats away from me on sunday. Fair play to the man for coming out and saying he was wrong with the pen decision. Cant see many other refs doing the same!

All this lot do is say the ref missed the penalty, but no one said anything about them trying to pull Crouchies shirt off over his head, & as we all know penalties don't mean goals anyway.

Who is to say the pen would have been scored anyway?
