'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sometimes you just know your luck is out...

Sometimes you just know it is not meant to be - and it would appear that it is just 'not meant to be' for Dave Nugent and Pompey?

From the minute he arrived from Preston - in fact even before his 'will he wont he' move even happened, he has been 'linked' with a move away, with plenty writing him off before a ball was even kicked... after it was those that had not soon started to... Harry Redknapp does not seem keen on the fella, and we know that when your card is marked by him you are all but done for...

He has been hampered with injures, his hernia problem last season for example, he says was one that he claimed he kept to himself but knows should have told someone. Whilst to be fair he was better after returning from surgery - in the little we saw of him - I find it hard to believe that he would have been allowed to play on with such a problem kept under wraps?

Whenever a potential chance to shine has arisen, like tonight for example, injury rules him out. He has again said that he just wants to stay and prove himself, also bemoaning his injury problems but it just does not seem like things are meant to be for him at Fratton...

Nugent has said he just wants get himself fit and play some football - he has been linked with loan after loan, so would this not be the ideal thing for him to do, or have done? He could have joined premier league clubs like Hull, Stoke or Wigan but 'apparently' turned these moves down, he has previously 'rejected' Ipswich but could still make a move to a Championship side as the loan window is open... If playing is what the fella really wants then why not join a Championship side on loan, even if it is only until January? I would like to hope it is not the case, but by not doing this it seems to back up the growing argument that Nugent is happy to pick up his big money and do nothing for it.

Ideal scenario is for him to go out on loan, it might not be at a level he wants to play at but it will bring him 1st team football and give him the chance to try and convince Redknapp what he can do - it also puts him in the shop window so he can look to impress to move on if need be?

Maybe he really does think, and hopes, to prove himself at Pompey but the more time that goes by with nothing happening the more likely it is that a promising young footballer - who I do believe can still fulfil promise - wastes his talent and could become another of the 'nearly men'. Injuries cannot be helped but reluctance to swallow pride and say 'ok I will go out on loan, or even leave if I have to' if nothing else but to say 'I will show you' can...

I'm not sure it's about bad luck. He's been paid £20-25k a week, played at Wembley & walks away with an FA Cup winners medal. Can I have some of that bad luck, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

of course there is that!

Iv'e got to admit, I wouldnt mind doing that... and I reckon I could probably pay better/fall over less than he has too!

It's a shame he was injued tonight as I'm sure he would've featured and probably offered some support to Crouchy who was up top on his own as we had no other fit forwards (Kanu apart). That said he's behind Defoe and Crouch behind Kanu behind Sahar and probably behind Utaka in a striker role.. I think it's time for us to face it that Nuge was a waste of money and for him to realise that the nly way to get his career back on track is to play football and score goals.. irrespective of what league that is in... or for which club.

Regretably Nuge will be placed in the list of strikers we've bought that promised a lot when signed but didn't deliver including Peter Price, Scott McGarvey, Ian Baird (spit) & Lee Chapman.

In fairness (when fit) has hasn't exactly been given a great deal of games and you cant fault his work rate. Benjani didn't hit the ground running and he played far more games than Nuge did in his first season. I dont doubt Peter Crouch's ability or John Utaka's but are they really worth the money Pompey paid?? baring in mind that Nugents fee was less.

Get rid of him, six million pounds wasted, bad bad decision. He has had his chances and not been fit or looked good enough.
