Details for packages to Portugal

Details of how you can book official travel to Portugal for our uefa cup tie with Vitoria have now been released.

These are the details as issued on the Pompey Site...

It's an historic moment in Pompey's history.

Vitoria SC v Pompey: the Blues' first ever match on foreign soil in a major European competition.

So why not join Pompey on their UEFA Cup adventure in Portugal by travelling with the club?
Thomson Sport are Pompey's official travel partner.

And in conjunction with the club they are offering official travel packages for Pompey`s UEFA Cup first round, second leg tie against Vitoria SC on Thursday, October 2.

The packages include match tickets, flights and transfers to and from the ground.

There are two packages - either travel straight home after the game or take your time enjoying an extra day in Portugal and fly back the next day:

Option One - Day Stop
Cost: £369 per person
Price includes:
- Flights between Gatwick and Porto
- All overseas transfers (on arrival, to the game and after the game)
- Match ticket
The outbound flight leaves Gatwick at 7.30am on Thursday, October 2 and arrives at 9.30am.
The return flight will be ready for fans after the game following transfer from the ground. The estimated departure time is 1.30am, provided there is no extra time.
Lucketts can provide transfers both ways between Fratton Park and Gatwick for an extra £20 per person.

Option Two - Overnight Stay (Stay over the night of the game)
Cost: £399 in a three-star hotel; £429 in a four-star hotel
Price includes:
- Flights between Bournemouth and Porto
- All overseas transfers (on arrival, to the game and after the game)
- Match ticket
- Hotel accommodation (bed and breakfast, twin share)
The outbound flight leaves Bournemouth at 7.30am on Thursday, October 2, arriving in Porto at 9.30am.
The return flight leaves Porto at 8.30pm on Friday, October 3.

All travel options will be staffed by Portsmouth FC stewards and Thomson Sport representatives.

By booking through the Official Travel Partner, you are completely ATOL protected.

ATOL protects you from losing your money or being stranded abroad. It does this by carrying out checks on the tour operators and travel organisers it licenses, and requiring a financial guarantee called a bond.

If a tour operator goes out of business, the CAA will make a refund to you, or if you're abroad, we'll arrange for you to finish your holiday and fly home, whereas, by booking independent packages, you are not ATOL protected, and should an airline go into liquidation or have a major delay or incident, you could be left stranded overseas and repatriation will be at your own expense.

A number of aircraft have been held by Thomson Sport for Pompey fans. If demand means extra aircraft are needed, the package prices for those travelling on an additional aircraft will be subject to change.

Therefore, it is recommended that supporters book early to ensure they travel on one of the pre-ordered aircraft to benefit from the above prices.

not bad, not bad, would be less expensive if the oil prices hadn't shot up though

on the face of it you think what £400! but when you break it down and think exactly what it gives you its not that bad really is it, altho £400 is still alot of money for one game... ive been mulling it over all night, but as much as i desperately want to be at this game i think this time i must let me head rule my heart!
my main priority was to see the 1st ever european game at fratton, and depsite the 6pm kick off time this is something that i can do - so im content with that...

I would love to, but as I only get back from my Holiday on the 29th I think it will be a little rude and expensive to go straight back off again. lol Bring on the group stages!

A pretty good deal really. Question is, do I go for this and break the bank for this game or do I wait for us to qualify for the group stages in the hope an away trip to a European giant?

At least it looks as if Harry will be leading us out, He likes having a chairman who lets him manage.

for those that live further away from portsmouth, theres a £98 flight bristol-porto on thurs morn, with a £78 return flight from porto - stansted the next morn. £176, not bad, but you have to stay somewhere overnight, and you have to organise travel from porto to guimaraes.

£400 + some spending is a lot for a 24 hour experience. Some thinking to be done for all of us. Just hope for those who book, we arn't mullered in the home leg.

when you look at it this way, you will 'probably' be looking at what around £150-£200 for flights alone now - as most companies have suddenly decided that portugal around early october is 'very popular' and 'sought after' so it costs more around that time - so when you think you get flights, accommodation, a meal, match ticket, travel to and from the stadium and travel to and from the airport in portugal all in all this isnt a bad package is it...
that said, like matt says you have to decide - as much as this is something you want, and will never come round again can you really justify £400 for this?
ive thought long and hard, and with the view that 'we might' play someone like milan later on, which i would probably have to miss if i paid this i have had to accept i just cannot afford £400... getting to the 1st ever fratton game is one that i wanted more, and is one i will get - so im happy, gutted to miss this but i just cannot justify spending beyond my means, which i will be doing again tbh...

I'd love to go but at £400 the only way i could afford it is to give my New York Honeymoon in January, somehow i don't think i'd ever be forgiven for that.

If we conviningly win the 1st leg at home then the attitude could be, not to go to Portugal & look to go to a group stage game. Can we wait to book with less than 2 weeks before that match? If it's a tight game then it could now or never!!! At £400-£500 a game, not many could afford to do 2-4 matches, not unless it got very serious & we are talking semis & finals, but that is to worry about another day.

Me and Mrs Midge plus 2 lads that do work but would need help to fund this = TV for us too lol. 2 x £399 + maybe half of their costs = a Foriegn Holiday and unfortunately NOT being mega rich the foriegn holiday would have to win. Hopefully we will get through, and depending on times and locations of next round, we can get to another foriegn game. Shame but common sense has had to win this one, this time round boo hoo.....

There are cheaper ways of course but a ticket is guaranteed at least. Decisions have to be made or wait until the possible group stage. Problem is then we might have longer trips!!

This was a no-brainer for me. I added up the costs of going independently, bearing in mind getting to/from the airport in the UK, and it was just as much. Granted we were thinking of stopping over there a couple more days, but this way we still get 3 days in Porto, plus taken to and from the game itself. And we're guaranteed match tickets, as non-season ticket holders. If we'd left it, the tickets would have gone to a) people on the package deal and b) season ticket holders and we wouldn't have got them. All booked up and excited about it. WE'RE ALL GOING ON A EUROPEAN TOUR!

considering going to the FA Cup cost over £100 on tickets and tavel (and I had a cheap ticket, and live fairly close to london!) - £400 seems cheap, particually considering it's organised by the pompey travel agency. talking of the pompey travel agency... isn't it about time they became editors, they seem to right a fair few stories on here :-)

ive looked through again and it seems to confirm my concerns that this is basically 'a free for all' it doesnt matter if you are season ticket or club membership or not? so long as you show the money you can go - or does it tell you more when you go through the process?
i thought we might get around 5000 tickets, but rumour is we 'might' only get 1500, so this makes the 'free for all' even more so - ok, not all can/will go but shouldnt season ticket holders and then club members be given priority?
