Pompey suffer Thomas injury blow

We have been handed a blow with the news that Jerome Thomas could be out for as long as 3 months with a stress fracture of the back...

With Niko Kranjcar already out, losing Thomas as well is far from ideal but luckily having gone from having little or no options on the left we do now have a fair few. This also makes the decision to bring Nadir Belhadj in on loan all the more important, and probably explains even more why we pushed this move through.

Harry Redknapp has said that he was out for 12 weeks, although physio Gary Sadler has merely told the Pompey Site that he 'might' be out longer term, with 3 weeks the minimum: 'we saw a consultant on Monday evening. The plan at the moment is to treat him for three weeks with some rehabilitation, although there are some restrictions with what we can do with him.

'We'll go back to see the consultant in three weeks and depending on what he says, we can take the appropriate action.'

Chances are it will be more than 3 weeks, but whatever happens as much as this is not ideal I believe that we have enough cover to get us through and do not believe we will be, or should be hearing the 'bare bones' speech just yet - although it is inevitable this will come :-)

==========

Also, before the other 'inevitable' talks begin with the news that Alan Curbishley has resigned as West Ham manager no doubt Redknapp will be 'linked' with them.

The club are in a mess, so although he has already ruled this out weeks ago - as much as the club is in his heart - he would be a fool to return to the club, and he wont so that is as much air time as Vital Pompey will be giving this issue!

At this rate we won't need to worry about a 6pm kick off they'll be nobody left to play anyway.

yea the injury sucks but lets just hope for a quicker return. but on the west ham manager at the moment Redknapp is at 4/1 and bilic is at 7/1 lol yea the connections are already starting to fly

A fractured back sounds horrible. I would have thought 12 weeks was optimistic.

We wish JT well & know we understand the need for cover. Bugger, Curbs gone at West Ham & KK in some doubt at Barcodes. More unneeded speculation surrounds HR, we all could do without this.
storagematt
With Curbishley resigning after the transfer window has shut, i would think most managers would want to give it a miss, not much scope for improvement if you can't sign your own players for months to come.

That must have been a really bad bed to do that as Harry put earlier in the week! Sounds nasty and I hope he gets fit soon.
sneakay
sounds like a nasty injury... get well soon :-)

Backs are buggers, John McCelland was never the same force after his back problems.

Injuries are beginning to pile up now, But we do have cover on that side. stfc is right he looked good against Manure - get fit soon Jerome.
eastneydave
luckily we have soo many left sided players. agree tony, 12 weeks does sound optimistic. and yep we do need to get appiah in now.
jbaker
we'll be ok, i thought thomas looked likvely against manyoo but tbh with HR looking like going wing backs now how much of a look-in would thomas have got over the next 3 months? probably not that much - this said i would clearly prefer him not injured!
