Time is running out... but can we hold on!

Time is running out... but can we hold on!

Time is ebbing away now, but the transfer speculation continues - what, if anything, will it bring though?

The Lassana Diarra to Spurs talk keeps on being mentioned, but surely a deal of this proportion would have seen much more than 'mere speculation' by now, and something more concrete would have come out? Hopefully, not going to happen now...

Talk of Joey Barton going to Pompey is cooling a bit - thank god! With it said that it is Villa and Everton that are most likely to be fighting for his signature...

With Djimi Traore and Dave Nugent said to have been in our reserve side to that are currently facing Fulham - although I cannot confirm or deny this - this would seem to rule out the chances of them leaving? We would not risk them if they were going tonight would we! However it is believed that Noe Pamarot, who was named in the squad, was a late withdrawal - which might mean he is on the move somewhere?

UPDATED EDIT: 'Reports' that Pamarot did not play for the reserves tonight were well wide of the mark, as he not only played but also scored - so this puts to bed talks that he could go!

If I could wind time forward I would happily do so now, as although I would still like us to sign a midfielder the chances of this are not that great - although Stephen Appiah remains a target, but we do not need to hurry this one through.

So I would be happy to leave things as they are now, but still feel that someone will leave, but I remain hopeful that it will not be a major player!

So guys, what do we think will/might happen with Pompey in these final couple of hours of the transfer window - if anything? Thoughts below as always please...

Much as I've been backing Nugent for the past year, if its a choice between him and Diarra I'll pack Nuge's bags for him! I still think he might have done well for us if he'd ever had a proper chance, but he's not going to get that with Crouch, Defoe, Sahar and Kanu all ahead of him, so he might as well get a chance somewhere else.

just so long as barton doesnt come anywhere near us, and diara stay (and there are no other "big shocks") i'll be happy. no movement would be good!

he wouldnt have played for the reserves tonight - if he did? - if he was on his way tho would he? as we wouldnt have risked an injury would we...

Thats true, Rug, if he was on his way he'd be off having a medical and agreeing terms somewhere. I'll be happy with no more in no more out now.

Have to say, I am still concerned about our strength in midfield. To let Muntari go with Mendes as cover was reasonable, though uncomfortable business. To let Mendes go as well, and not bolster the midfield again is dodgy, particularly in a first season in europe too. With Krancky injured long term as well I am a little concerned that we are potentially looking at a weak midfield

pamarot did play for the reserves, and scored tonight, so rumours that he could be on his way seem wide of the mark!

no need to rush the appiah deal, we could do that tomorrow, next week or even next month as he is a free agent isnt he...
i too would also like a midfielder to come in - but not barton! - as were looking abit light, especially if we get an injury or 2...welcome as well wakey, not seen you around before?

Mind you, in follow up to my last post. I would rather stay short in midfield than accept that scumbag barton into the club. Glad he looks to be going to the villains it seems like the most appropriate place really!

Almost there...stay on target

The win over Newport saw Pompey react well to the defeat to Stevenage with most results going in the Blues' favour too, meaning we've effectively got a seven point buffer on Boro.
