'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Time is running out... but can we hold on!

Time is ebbing away now, but the transfer speculation continues - what, if anything, will it bring though?

The Lassana Diarra to Spurs talk keeps on being mentioned, but surely a deal of this proportion would have seen much more than 'mere speculation' by now, and something more concrete would have come out? Hopefully, not going to happen now...

Talk of Joey Barton going to Pompey is cooling a bit - thank god! With it said that it is Villa and Everton that are most likely to be fighting for his signature...

With Djimi Traore and Dave Nugent said to have been in our reserve side to that are currently facing Fulham - although I cannot confirm or deny this - this would seem to rule out the chances of them leaving? We would not risk them if they were going tonight would we! However it is believed that Noe Pamarot, who was named in the squad, was a late withdrawal - which might mean he is on the move somewhere?

UPDATED EDIT: 'Reports' that Pamarot did not play for the reserves tonight were well wide of the mark, as he not only played but also scored - so this puts to bed talks that he could go!

If I could wind time forward I would happily do so now, as although I would still like us to sign a midfielder the chances of this are not that great - although Stephen Appiah remains a target, but we do not need to hurry this one through.

So I would be happy to leave things as they are now, but still feel that someone will leave, but I remain hopeful that it will not be a major player!

So guys, what do we think will/might happen with Pompey in these final couple of hours of the transfer window - if anything? Thoughts below as always please...

Much as I've been backing Nugent for the past year, if its a choice between him and Diarra I'll pack Nuge's bags for him! I still think he might have done well for us if he'd ever had a proper chance, but he's not going to get that with Crouch, Defoe, Sahar and Kanu all ahead of him, so he might as well get a chance somewhere else.
tracyc
just so long as barton doesnt come anywhere near us, and diara stay (and there are no other "big shocks") i'll be happy. no movement would be good!
pompeycarpet
he wouldnt have played for the reserves tonight - if he did? - if he was on his way tho would he? as we wouldnt have risked an injury would we...
pompeyrug
Thats true, Rug, if he was on his way he'd be off having a medical and agreeing terms somewhere. I'll be happy with no more in no more out now.
tracyc
Appiah in as a late one wud be good, that or nothing id say!
southportpompey
Have to say, I am still concerned about our strength in midfield. To let Muntari go with Mendes as cover was reasonable, though uncomfortable business. To let Mendes go as well, and not bolster the midfield again is dodgy, particularly in a first season in europe too. With Krancky injured long term as well I am a little concerned that we are potentially looking at a weak midfield
wakey
pamarot did play for the reserves, and scored tonight, so rumours that he could be on his way seem wide of the mark!
pompeyrug
yay, the reserves scored.
jbaker
no need to rush the appiah deal, we could do that tomorrow, next week or even next month as he is a free agent isnt he...
i too would also like a midfielder to come in - but not barton! - as were looking abit light, especially if we get an injury or 2...welcome as well wakey, not seen you around before?
pompeyrug
Mind you, in follow up to my last post. I would rather stay short in midfield than accept that scumbag barton into the club. Glad he looks to be going to the villains it seems like the most appropriate place really!
wakey
Is Sasha sells Diarra, then he is selling Pompey off. Forget the stadium & we need a new owner! Ignore most of this if Diarra stays.
storagematt
Hi Rug, on the site a fair bit last year, came about 5 millionth in the fantasy league etc etc, but been so darn busy I am quiet this year so far
wakey
just need something creative in midfield. Barton's not the answer but can't see us getting anybody without spending big so will have to settle for what we have i guess. As for Wakey I introduced him to Vital Pompey way back in Les's day but he doesn't seem to appear on here much. Have to do my big brother bit and beat it into him.
Steve C
When you;re big enough bruv! Have to start coming on here more - its only time I hear from you!!!!
wakey
ditto
Steve C
indeed, rug, appiah is a free agent. thats good news, no transfer fee involved etc. we still need to act quick though, because hes a good player, wont stay a free agent for long - hes the ghana captain!
jbaker
Citeh seem to be trying to buy anyone for 30 mill plus Robinho now!
pompeyyong
Blimey...it's a bit rough on here tonight, think i'll keep my head down..
cornypomp
barton aparantly wants to stay at newcastel... phew!
pompeycarpet
Appiah has said he wont be rushed, go Harry do your stuff
pompeyyong
Daniel Cousin from Rangers to Hull?!!!
storagematt
Looks like we'll be challenging for the Premiership (as we know it) soon as the top four and Citeh, + whoever any other club that gets taken over by a Sheikh, form a breakaway league.
stillthewhizz
Wasn't that fussed with Belhadj but he looked good in this game against Lyon....

stillthewhizz
I doubt they will all move away from the premiership - they rely on the smaller clubs in the league too much!
pompeycarpet
if viteh are signing all these strikers can we have benjani back
robertpog
citeh not viteh
robertpog
Any Truth in the rumour City want Harrys wife as manager? She could've signed robiniho for 20 million!
Steve C
Talking of Benji. a great chunk of the transfer money was based on appearances! I forget the exact numbers but something like 25 games = £3m. He hasn't palyed close to 15 games, so they have him on the cheap.
storagematt
We play citeh in 3 weeks time. 5hit. SWP & Robinho. Should be interesting!
storagematt
and city will likely take one of the european places, spurs will take another - that just leaves one place for the rest of the league! us, villa, everton all competing for one place!
pompeycarpet
Fulham terminated Smertins contract by mutual consent, please Harry bring him back
Steve C
we'll qualify by winning uefa cup anyway! (tongue in cheek)
Steve C
Carpet you're forgetting Sunderland who have spent big and will be looking for a place as well. Ummmmmm... Lets just enjoy the fact we won the FA Cup before football went mental(er) and enjoy our one and only soirée into Europe. I really don't know why I'm so depressed about today's events?
stillthewhizz
and i'm forgetting blackburn, who have a good squad, and west ham, and newcastle... football is silly now...
pompeycarpet
...and I didnt mention midsbrough, who look good too!
pompeycarpet
Calderon's comments about Robinho being sold for human reasons is quite possibly the funniest thing I've ever heard. I know that it's a dig at both Chelsea and Manchester United but I think people in football need to take a look at the bigger picture. There's no way that in the worlds current financial climate, this can continue to happen. Pathetic.
stillthewhizz
Oh and to add with Benji. He did miss his flight on purpose.
stillthewhizz
benji. benji. benji.
jbaker
robinho signs for city... benji?!?!?
pompeycarpet
carpet please stop naming strong teams, we don't want to be in the bottom 3
Steve C
looks like were all done, in and out now - the next thing we will be looking at is the loan market, which opens for teams outside of the top-flight next week i think?
pompeyrug
why the ***** robinho would want to go from citeh to manchester is beyond me...maybe manyoo would be tempted, but citeh! i can still see things going belly up with citeh...
pompeyrug
don't forget free agents
Steve C
vital pompey, also a place for familes to be re-united :-)
pompeyrug
...and what about hull... they look good too! Football is getting so confusing now...
pompeycarpet
Robinho is going to Citeh for the money and the potential they have. I still think it's amazing that Robinho could potentially take his first training session at Citeh alongside Danny Mills.
stillthewhizz
it seems weird how city have just exploded out of nothing... but it looks... LOOKS likewe could be finished?
pompeycarpet
Martin Cranie's gone to Charlton woooo. We got involved in something!
stillthewhizz
...better scrap that, cranie has now left to charlton...
pompeycarpet
Cranie on loan to Charlton has been confirmed apparently, but I can't find any confirmation of Primus going out on loan.
PhilTaglia
he hasnt! in fact, vital charlton are suggesting he wont untill NEXT monday... (something about fitness)
pompeycarpet
yep late move for cranie to go to charlton on loan - so long as he returns im ok with this...dont know what the deal is with linvoy tho!
pompeyrug
well, it looks like we kept all the important players - although no big surprises for us... although I guess that man city more than made up for that!
pompeycarpet
im sooo relieved that barton didnt join and diarra stayed. and we managed to get someone in at the same time too. nugent and utaka get a second chance too, just a shame that we didnt get another right mid or creative centre mid. still, im not moaning.
jbaker
Sounds like we are all happy then. Sorry I missed the chat last night but I was too busy writing articles and watching the window shut on TV.
eastneydave
Wow it was all a little crazy on here last night!
