'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Christophe loaned out to Southend

The first name to leave Pompey today is not a name, with due respect to him, that will worry us that much to be honest as this person is Jean-Francis Christophe.

I read a week or so back that he was on trial with Southend, and apparently following this successful spell he has joined them on loan for a month, which will probably be extended...

The Frenchman, who signed for us last summer after a successful trial with us during pre-season has told the Southend Site that he is pleased to join them and going out to play some 1st team football is what Harry Redknapp wanted for him: 'I am happy to find a club to go on loan to for a couple of months and play some football

'I think Southend is a good team to enjoy playing at and to show what I can do on the pitch.

'Last season was my first year in England and I learnt a lot about the game.

'Harry Redknapp has said to me that he sees me as a holding midfielder and that this is the best way for me to develop.'

This is a good move, as the only way Christophe will ever develop as a player is by playing 1st team football, as this is much better than playing at a reserve team level. I would still be surprised if we ever saw him become a regular in the Pompey side though to be honest, but you never know...

if hes not good enough for the 1st team, and he can get first team football somewhere else, why keep him in the reserves? unless we suddenly have a midfielder crisis, i dont see how this move can possibly go wrong.

Generally loans are a good idea to get them playing and more experience - why not.
tracyc
That's right all the big boys do it

we have nothing to lose, using the loan market is the way to go - so good luck to him... i still cannot see him having a future with us tho tbh?
pompeyrug
How old is he? He may be too young in Harry's eyes to come into our team at present so loaning him out to get 1st team football is the best way forward.
