Motta deal fails after failed medical?

Motta deal fails after failed medical?

It is a quiet day all-round on deadline day, although seeing this quiet with Pompey is not a surprise in the slightest as the signing of Nadir Belhadj has probably already exceeded my expectations - although to be honest I am still not sure where he fits in?

Setanta sports, not always the most reliable of sources, were right with the news that we were signing the Algerian - and we did. Setanta now claims that the Thiago Motta deal fell through, not due to the 'reported' £60,000 wages but due to him failing a medical...

The Brazilian has had problems with his knees for a while and the suggestion is the plug was pulled due to our concerns over the condition of his knees, which meant him failing a medical, despite previous claims that he had in fact passed one during his trial?

Other 'reports' said that he rejected our offer of a 'pay as you play', or 'short term deal' - but either way the facts remain that he will not be coming to Fratton for whatever reason, or so we are led to believe...

==========

Players departing Fratton today is still highly likely, and word I have is that offers have been placed for Dave Nugent and Sean Davis...

I said my bit on Nugent earlier - see the Diarra staying article from this morning - so I will not go over that again, but whilst Davis might not be the most outstanding of footballers we know what we will get from him and my thinking is we cannot afford to lose him, as the central midfield area is looking very threadbare as it is already!

I was just starting to wonder what had happened on the Motta front. I thought his knee would be the stumbling block. Just Appiah to hope for now, although I have read he may be in takes with West Ham?

davis is a "grafter" who you need for your other players to play well - and we have very few of them left, after matty taylor, gary o'neil and benjani have all left!

davis was one probably the key player in our formation last season until diarra turned up. hes been a great asset to our squad and it was only a matter of time until he forced his way back into the starting line-up.

No surprise if this is true, to be honest. Knee injury must still be lurking there. Would be sad to see Nugent leave, but wouldn't lose any sleep.

Debut delight...kind of!

It wasn't a result, and in many ways a performance, for Sheff United loanee Freeman to remember too fondly as he didn't really have a great game against Orient? Then again who did!

Tubbs has left the building

Tubbs has finally left Pompey; perhaps his destination is something of a surprise then again there had been some 'rumours' recently of an Eastleigh interest.
