James, Johnson and Defoe in - Crouch misses out

David James, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe have all been included in Fabio Capello's squad for the England world cup qualifiers.

Whilst this Pompey trio are in for the games with Andorra - Saturday - and Croatia - a week Wednesday - Peter Crouch has again sadly been left out with Emile Heskey again preferred... This is disappointing, as whilst I understood his missing out last time I think he is slightly unlucky to miss out this time round to be honest, but there you go - Michael Owen has also missed out though.

Jimmy Bullard has been called up for the first time with Rob Green recalled and he will 'probably' vie with Paul Robinson to act as backup to no.1 James.

England squad to play Andorra and Croatia:
Robinson (Blackburn), James (Portsmouth), Green (West Ham); Lescott (Everton), Bridge (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), Brown (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Johnson (Portsmouth), Upson (West Ham); Barry (Aston Villa), J Cole (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Bullard (Fulham), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Downing (Middlesbrough), Bentley (Tottenham), Jenas (Tottenham); Walcott (Arsenal), Rooney (Manchester United), Defoe (Portsmouth), Heskey (Wigan).

so, it looks like defoe could get another england start, jamo probably will too, and after the lack of creatvity against the czechs (i think? - i didnt see the game), maybe johnson will start ahead of wes brown too. I feel sorry for crouch, however I am sure he will get recalled at some point, but he isn't playing that well. yet.

Crouch will have another chance. Playing well & scoring lots for Pompey is the incentive. Good to luck to the 3 Pompey lions.
storagematt
shame that he could not get in this time but yep, crouchy will be back...
defoe has a good chance of starting again against andorra for sure, with jamo likely to be the no.1 in both - johnson will probably have to settle for a place on the bench for 1 or both tho?
pompeyrug
I would expect he will start on the bench against croatia, as capello will probably want to play the "less risky" option of brown - but maybe against andorra, he will want the added creativity of johnson.
pompeycarpet
Heskey over Crouch (again), im quite surprised. But very glad to see our other lads in the squad. Crouchy will be back soon im sure. Chance for defoe to knock a few more in for club & country. I can see Brown being the starting choice, and Johnson possibly coming on as a sub in the second half. Jamo #1.

Yeah I agree Andrew, but I think it's only a matter of time before Johnno makes that right back berth his own.. Wes Brown might have more experience at the mo but isn't half as good as Johnson... Crouchys time will come na dif he only has Heskey in his way I think that will be sooner rather than later..
Chix
Of course Crouchy will get another chance. Heskey is only a short gap fill in. And agree with above about Johnno if he continues like Saturday.
eastneydave
I just can't believe that Capello has only named three out and out strikers again. That is really strange and I think shows that he is relying on the midfield far to much.
sneakay
the only problem I can see about a 3-5-2 formation is that it could hurt johnsons england chances?
pompeycarpet
Johnson has alot more pace then Brown, so yeah, i agree with you Chix, he will make it his own over time. Although they both have the ability to score goals from nothing.
.Andrew.
maybe capello wants a 4-5-1 formation rather than the traditional 4-4-2
jbaker
No Owen so Jermain must have a great chance to start & Heskey can't keep out PC for long surely, hope Glen gets more time too,& Jamo must be a cert.
