ACADEMY EASE TO VICTORY

Sheffield Wednesday Academy 1 Pompey Academy 4

Pompey swept aside Sheffield Wednesday with a confident showing at the Yorkshire club's academy ground.

A powerful display from the Blues' youngsters produced four goals in a match that they totally controlled from start to finish.

A brace by Mark Smith and a goal apiece from Matt Ritchie and Nadir Ciftci earned a first win of the season, after last week's 1-1 draw against Leeds in the league opener.

SMITH scored his first ever goal at academy level after just 10 minutes when he was played through by Marlon Pack, who put in a tireless performance all game.

Pompey were already dominating and it came as no surprise when they doubled their advantage on 25 minutes. SMITH grabbed his and Pompey's second after being set up by Ciftci.

But the hosts were thrown a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when Tom Hall pounced to halve the deficit.

Half Time: Sheffield Wednesday 1 Pompey 2

The Blues were soon back in control after the interval however, and RITCHIE restored the two-goal lead on 55 minutes with his second goal of the season.

CIFTCI then completed the scoring 15 minutes from the end, capping a whole-hearted performance by netting Pompey's fourth.

Ran into Mark Chamberlain in the car park the other day. Still looks the same as when he played; just a touch of grey.

i still feel that some of these kids 'could' be good enough for cameo's this season, almost certainly next...
the future does look very bright tho doesnt it, as our academy side is seen as one of the best in the country now!

Match highlights - Pompey 0-1 Orient

Disappointing as it was, you take the rough with the smooth and cannot gloss over things when they aren't so good so here goes with the 1-0 defeat Pompey suffered against Orient.

Simply not good enough!

Call me a moaner, call me a groaner but if you think the performance against Orient was good enough then I think you're wearing blue tinted specs as that was poor from Pompey.
