Diarra to go? Please say it aint so...

Diarra to go? Please say it aint so...

As we are so 'strapped for cash' today's People has an 'exclusive' which is 'claiming' that we will be forced into selling Lassana Diarra to Spurs for £12m tomorrow, unless we can offload some on our fringe players instead... Although Dave Nugent is 'said' to be close to completing a move to West Brom?

How true this is I could not say, but I hope and pray this is just speculation and nothing more - although if true we can forget any hopes we might have had of seeing us move further forward than we have and should instead brace ourselves for more departures in the future?

Again 'if' there is any truth in this whatsoever then we can forget about signing anyone else before midnight tomorrow, even on a free, and should be more concerned about others that might go...

However all we can now do is sit tight and wait and see.

My thoughts above are the worst case scenario but lets not overact or get carried away and start shouting and screaming about this, that and the other as no one, unless you are part of Portsmouth Football Club, which I doubt, knows how true - if at all true this actually is!

With all this said, if we had to keep selling 'top player', after player, after player why would you have gone out and purchased Peter Crouch for a club record earlier this summer? We would have known then that we could not afford him, so I am hoping that the Diarra 'rumours' are noting more than that, and just typical red top rubbish...

Well, we expect Diarra to go at some stage but certainly not yet & not to the spuds. Yes, if it was to Man Utd to replace Scholes or a Spanish giant but the spuds!!!!

Would be a bridge too far if he goes - maybe even for Harry also. Diarra WILL go (eventually), we know that, but to go now would rip the engine out of our team. After Muntari & Mendes have gone, what midfield would we have left?? Standing still after the Cup win is fair enough if times are hard (etc) - but going backwards would be very hard to take. I think Crouch must've been bought before we had the money problems (or realised the extent of them).

'if' the rpeorts are true tho matt we dont have much say in the matter and he will go to spurs...
i said this somewhere else:
'again 'if' this is true then we are up ***** creek - but i cannot keep coming back to the thoughts 'if we knew we we that broke then why would we have gone out and signed peter crouch?' we would have to sell him anyway sometime soon if that is the case as if we lose diarra, others will follow as the best players will not want ot play for a team that isnt going to be challenging the top 6, maybe even pushing on for the top 4, each season are they...
red top rubbish...hopefully!'
31/08/2008 10:09:00
agree scott mc, that 'if' true i think this would see HR walk away, and tbh i wouldnt blame him as we would gradually be stripping away all our most valuable assets, assets which got us to where we have gotten - without them the only way we will go is back down the table...
but dramatic money problems, like the ones it is claimed we have, do not just spring up overnight do they...we would have surely known things were going belly up before we signed crouchy?
that is why im not so sure i believe this, we will soon find out the truth tho wont we...

Its in The People - need I say more.....
31/08/2008 10:15:00
I do hope it is Red Top rubbish BUT strange things always happen on deadline day - Benjani and Defoe!! Roll on midnight tomorrow.
31/08/2008 10:16:00
the main thing tho, as i said above is that 'we dont beleive this just because the papers say so' - how much rubbish do they come out with!
31/08/2008 10:16:00
Most of what they report is rubbish - just occasionally they get it right - we can't let any more go especially from midfield and especially Diarra. Yes we all know Diarra will leave before too long, but only to a truly top club. So I think its rubbish, but roll on Tuesday morning so we can all have a big sigh of relief.
31/08/2008 10:21:00
I cant see it happening - I simply can't imagine we would sell him now - how many midfielders would we have left then?!
31/08/2008 10:59:00
It just wouldn't make sense. Surely if we were that cahs strapped we would have said no to Kaboul and made do with what we had. T sell the whole of the Cup Final midfield (Diarra, Muntari, Mendes) would be sheer madness! I don't believe Sacha would risk losing Harry or the fans over this one...

No retirement plans

Doyle might have turned 35 recently, which in reality means he's in the final throws of his playing career, but he's not ready to call it a day with Pompey (or otherwise) anytime soon.

On this day in history...20th October

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 20th October.

Linganzi presence needed

I've liked Rose since he signed in the summer but perhaps the former Oxford midfielder lacks the physicality Pompey sometimes need, which is why Linganzi has come in of late.

Pompey 'sent a message' at Plymouth

I'm still not completely sure if we should see Plymouth as 'two-points dropped?' Although I'm learning towards it being a result Pompey will be happier with than our hosts.
