Ljungberg no go/Motta still possible

Ljungberg no go/Motta still possible

Free agent Freddie Ljungberg has been 'linked' with Pompey quiet strongly over the past couple of days or so, but on the whole I think the general opinion is 'thanks but no thanks'...

Peter Storrie has moved to silence these rumours that he is signing by telling The News: 'Ljungberg will not be coming, definitely not. We have no interest in him.'

The Swede was a fantastic footballer, but the key word there is 'was'... Arsenal had the right idea when they let him go, and as said before there must be a reason why West Ham coughed up £6m to pay him off...

I will lose no sleep at all over this, and to be honest would have lost much more if we did sign him!

==========

However Thiago Motta remains a player that we 'could' still sign, with Storrie also telling The News: 'Motta is here at the moment and we are having at look at him.

'He's been having medicals to see how he is and we will take it from there.'

The Spanish midfielder is currently undergoing a week long trial with us and played the full 90 minutes of a behind closed doors friendly on Tuesday, along with a couple of other trialist's.

'Reports' suggest that he has already come through a successful medical, but his rumoured £60,000 per week wage demands could be a problem, along with a claimed late interest from our weekend opponents Everton.

==========

And finally, despite the fact that we have no money, we cannot shift players that we would like to and we cannot bring him in on loan the Shaun Wright-Phillips to Pompey talks just will not go away...

We have been after him all summer, but Everton and Citeh seem to have a free run on him due to our lack of finances - and is it believed that he is having a medical with Citeh today. However 'reports' also say that he has decided that it is Pompey he wants to go to if he has to leave Chelski, so he is trying to hold out as long as possible in order to get this move.

Quite how we could manage this I do not know, but for some strange reason I am still getting this feeling we will somehow swoop in to sign him! It does not seem at all feasible but it is something that I somehow feel will still happen?

Ljungberg - good news, we need to bolster midfield not a male model!! Motta I think depends on the deal being right. SWP sounds as though we are going to miss out - how much did we collect the other day in the collection?

As a free agent he surely can't be demanding that sort of salary. I think he will sign though.

Don't know much about this Motta charactor, but if he wants to get into the premiership then I think with his past history her may need to lighten up on his wage demands. I thnk we are in the driving seat and if he is a player Harry can use then I'm sure Storrie can thrash out a deal. Unless we have got 8.5m or more we are not going to get SWP, its as simple as that. We can't have him on loan and Chelski certainly won't give him away on a free transfer, so unless the 'we are skint' statement from the club is yet another smoke screen he aint coming.

Hoping we don't get Freddie, has certainly had his better days. Motta know nothing about. SWP feel a little let down and think that we do not have an attacking wide player in the team is likely to hinder our efforts this season.

Motta is the best out of all the 'freebies' out there. if he can stay fit and harry can work on his temper he was awesome when he played for Barcelona.

SWP has signed a 4 year deal with the mancs. Not a smokescreen I`m afraid. Push GJ forward and let`s see what happens.

It does look as though we're going to have to play three centre backs, and push Traore and Johnson up into midfield if we're going to get any width. That would let us bring Kranjcar in for a more central role if he hadn't got injured, but Utaka could be just as good in a free role between midfield and the forwards if he would knuckle down and give it some.

What do we hope for from the rest of the season?

There seems to be a lot of unhappiness around, despite a pretty decent season in my opinion. Well, certainly our best season in a long while.

Debut delight...kind of!

It wasn't a result, and in many ways a performance, for Sheff United loanee Freeman to remember too fondly as he didn't really have a great game against Orient? Then again who did!

Tubbs has left the building

Tubbs has finally left Pompey; perhaps his destination is something of a surprise then again there had been some 'rumours' recently of an Eastleigh interest.
