Kranjcar facing 2-3 months out!

Pompey have been dealt the blow with the confirmation that Niko Kranjcar is facing an extended spell on the sidelines having undergone surgery on an ankle injury today.

He was injured whilst on international duty with Croatia last week, when he suffered a ruptured ankle ligament. Initially it was hoped it would not be too bad, but he will now be out for 8-12 weeks...

This injury setback should at least put to bed any concerns that he 'could' leave before the transfer deadline and will also give the likes of Armand Traore and Jerome Thomas a chance at an extended run in the side - so it is down to them to grasp it.

Clearly we will miss him, but thankfully we were able to bring in some cover on the left side of midfield or we would have been well and truly up the creek without a paddle!

==========

Also, former Pompey winger Franck Songo'o has now found himself a new club.

He has returned to Spain, where he is expected to be announced as a Real Zaragoza player later today...

A real blow because on his day Niko is the most creative player we have and all because of a meaningless international friendly. At least he won't face England though.

i guess now we will see if Thomas or Traore are good enough to play week in week out!
southportpompey
My thoughts exactly. Shame for him & us. Time to get on now & knuckle down to some very hard graft.
storagematt
I'm gutted for you lads, it looked like you really missed his creativeness on Monday. However, as a gooner, I know that you've a little gem in Traore! At least you've got the two hardwst ones out of the way early!
navydave
Come on Sacha find 10,000,000 for SWP, we have absolutely no creativity with out Niko. A fact born out in the much improved performance against united. whilst we were much improved we never looked like supplying anything to Defoe and Crouch. Thomas and Little are little more than championship players signed in desperation because they were cheap.
Steve C
OMG!!! SWP has just been quoted saying he dosn't want to go to Man city or Everton!!! if this isnt a sign, then I dont know what is!!! pls Sacha!! do it!
CharlieChimes
This is a blow for sure, as I doubt that his fitness will be back to normal before Christmas. It does however give other a chance to step up and take the bull by the horns! Little and Utaka can also be deployed on the left wing.

England is very lucky with this injury....but big miss for pompey

This is so bad for us as he creates most of our chances shame he will be out but the positives for this is that we can see how traore and thomas proform down the left !! now all we need is swp to join cuz he ruled out everton and man city :) com on sasha splash da cash
stfc ballboy
huge blow, apart from jamo, he is the one player i would least like to lose. on his day he can turn the game for us. i still think we are terribly short in midfield, why not aaron lennon??? but our no.1 priority must be a centre mid...
pompeygrant01
In a way i'm pleased the injury happened now, it means he cant't be sold, and all the Niko critics will be proved wrong when we dont create any chances with our midfield mixture of championship players and out of position holding midfielders. Niko may not be the fastest or thinnest of players but in terms of skills he is better than a lot of our players, and my girlfriend says he is the best looking.

I hope he does not eat too many pies during his convalesance.

as i read this news i was thinking "perhaps franck songo'o might get the chance he deserves", only to find out that he has gone! the last thing we want is to pointlessly lose players that arent on big wages and might be called upon!
jbaker
maybe now we will bring in ljundberg. we need a creative midfielder who doent rrequire a hefty transfer fee (wages might be a problem). and he knows sol campbell, lauren and big tony. rumours today about milner on the move? perhaps a possible loan...
jbaker
007 Croatians dont eat pies.. they prefer boiled cabbage
nodster
He will be missed, the only positive being the new boys will get their chances sooner than expected....let's hope they can riase to the challenge. And don't worry, I'm sure he won't turn into Mbesuma during his time out.
Tantona
Nodster - would you eat boiled cabbage if pies were available?!!
Pompeyrk77
ive had an english pie so yes i would eat the boiled cabbage
nodster
Traore could be a good choice on the left wing during while NKs out
pompeysno.9
As long as when Niko is out, the coaching team & rehab team teach him to wake up during big matches. Didn't do too badly without him this weekend.
.Andrew.
