Guillem Balague on Pompey 'target' Thiago Motta

Thiago Motta, the Brazilian midfielder formerly with Barcelona, but now with Atletico Madrid is being strongly linked with Pompey. Guillem Balague - the Spanish fella who does the football on Sky - has shared some opinions on the player on his website.

He says that Motta is currently on trial with Pompey but he is not sure if it is worth us taking a punt on him as he is a player with a shady past: 'we are talking about a player, after all, who has been injured more often than he has been fit, has - to put it mildly - a relaxed attitude to training, a love of the nightlife and who's ill discipline has seen him get sent off far too many times at vital moments in key fixtures: even Motta himself has admitted that he has been very unprofessional. It's perhaps even more frustrating because Motta could have been a very good player.'

He has played for Brazil at international level, so as much as plenty do manage this he cannot be a mug, and holds an Italian passport - so no worries with a work permit - but do we really need a player like him here? Maybe Harry Redknapp could tame him, but if not then we could end up with a fella on very good money who might rock the boat...

"HR"'s has a reputation for taming wild players. "HR" is so easy going on some disciplinary matters, I wander who pulls the strings.

On this day in history...30th May

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 30th May.

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!
