SWP move still on/Pompey's battle for Belhadj

'Reports' in today's Daily Express, which are claimed as exclusive say Shaun Wright-Phillips could still make a move to Pompey before the end of the transfer window, in fact by the time we face Manyoo on Monday!

The England man has said that he is happy with Chelski - but he cannot really say anything else can he! The suggestion is that Harry Redknapp, Pompey owner Sasha Gaydamak and Chelski sugar daddy Roman Abramovich held talks after our defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with the view to ironing out a season loan deal for the winger.

Who knows what to believe, until anything is confirmed you cannot really believe anything - but it would not surprise me at all if we saw him arrive on loan before the end of the month...

Whereas another reported target Nadir Belhadj is attracting plenty of interest, with the Lens chairman 'claiming' 4 clubs are battling out for his signature.

Still struggling with the idea we have to beg after selling Muntari & Pedro. Hard facts of business.
Ooooh 4 clubs enter, 1 club leaves! Sorry Mad Max moment.
i hope we sign swp as down the right hand side against chelsea we were awful, i dont see why redknapp said he as forced to play kaboul in centre mid when he could have played utaka in right mid and diop in the centre, bad tactics by the management on sunday!
Haz; That's the 'arry we know and love!
Oh man, that would be great! We'd get him back in the England squad.
Fingers crossed fellas!
Spot on pompeyhaz. We lost badly on Sunday for two reasons no.1. because Chelsea were that good and no.2. because Harry ****ed up the tactics. Four central midfielders is only ever going to be narrow.
If he's got any sense he would come, look at Diarra and Defoe who were both bench warmers at their respective clubs. SWP will be used as a squad player this year same as last year at Chelsea and no amount of money for a pro makes up for not playing. He would have a very realistic chance of getting a regular England place if he was able to show his wares on a regular basis.
Belhadji and SWP on loans and or Appiah and Sorin on free transfers, all would command decen wages but i think we should go for all four of them. Belhadji can play on the wing as well as a left back, Sorin is a left back/left wing back so different options there. Appiah gives Diop some competition in the middle and thenSWP to challenege Utaka on the right...
Just look at the optimism this speculation has created. As someone once said...."Funny old game".
ive always been quite an optimisitc supporter, the reality is that we wont sign any of them and we will finish somewhere between 9th and 13th, i think there are a few more twists and turns before the end of the window yet... afterall from what we gather the Kabould move was a no go because of cash flow then all of a sudden he turned up on the door!
Expect the unexpected.
And don't expect the expected! ;-)
But if you expect the unexpected then surely the unexpected becomes the expected so you can't expect it any more and then if you stop expecting the expected as well then . . . . blimey, a philosophical dead end! Just sign someone Hassa!
I'd give me left testicle for SWP!!!!!!
Hang on to it for now charlie ! Agree with pompeyhaz that a change of tactics is needed. We are deep in defensive talent, so why not try a 3-2-3-2, with Diop & Diarra in defensive midfield and Kranjcar flanked by Utaka & Thomas ? Have to say, wasn't big on Diop at the beginning but he's been the only bright spot so far.
Agree with southport belhadji and swp on loan then sorin and appiah on free transfer will do all good players all played international and champions league matches and will give us depth in the squad !!! to be honest i also agree with haz on this change the formation kranjcar behind crouch and defoe , kaboul craine and distin in defence then u can pick the mid lol !!! PUP

pentonpompey just read your comment on Vital Middlesboro! You are a *****! And if my team got hammered 4.0 I would be as quiet as a mouse for about a month! ***** off! 4.0! Its funny how players who cannot get on our bench walk straight into your team! If we’re a small club then Pompy must be microscopic! anyone in the prem can beat Cardiff you know!
Dazza, but you didn't old boy though did you? We did and we're the FA Cup holders. Enough said really.
dazza, shot yourself in the foot the mate!
o no you didnt, thought you were a boro fan
It's all relative. We didn't play particularly well in any of the games in the FA Cup yet our name is on the trophy thanks to a lot of luck and resilience from Harry's men. At the end of it all nobody really remembers how the cup was won, just that we won it. As a club I believe we need to wake up soon or else it will turn into an FA Cup hangover. I have a funny feeling that this could be our worst finish in the league for the last two years. Glen Johnson as rightly pointed out is one of our only deliverers of the ball yet doesn't get back enough. Herman and Sol are easily outdone by a lot of players with pace that each team in the Premiership seem to possess nowadays. Defoe and Crouch hasn't clicked, yet. And Harry just hasn't got a clue what he's doing with the midfield, yet. If I was Harry I would have made sure that I sorted out our wing options before splashing the cash on Crouch. To me it looks like a luxury option which has left the team unbalanced. But lets see what happens, there's a week and a half of the transfer window left and there's only been one game of the season so far, against the runners-up.
Cannot disagree with that stillthewhizz, although I fear your optimism about the next couple of weeks may be misplaced.
Great points STW. Our first 6 games of this season gave us a total of 1 point last season. If that happened again...
Sorry guy's we cant loan SWP as we already have Saha on loan from Chelsea, & you can only loan once per team.
How many wingers do we want? Utaka, Little, Thomas, enuff surely? Belhadj would be a decent addition though on all accounts.
Wingers, yes. Quality wingers, no. Utaka isn't good enough as a winger, Little isn't top 6 material and neither is Thomas for that matter. We've blown a tidy sum on a lanky streak of whatsit and had to sell two core players to back it up. Yet despite selling two central midfielders, you'd think that was the position we'd be lacking in? There needs to be a balance. You can't play two defensive midfielders in the middle (Diarra + Mendes, Diarra + Diop, Diarra + Kaboul), and I will eat my season ticket if Harry keeps playing Diop on the right. I'd go with Utaka on the right because at least he can take on players (when he chooses to) with Diarra and Kranjcar in the centre. So who fits the bill on the left?
I just hope we don't sacrifice Kranjcar for SWP's...
comment " just hope we don't sacrifice Kranjcar for SWP's" i don't see why not. one over weight, no passion and can't run and the others got all three. i'd swop them tomorrow
You're welcome to your opinion Robert but that's crap.
sorry but kranjcar is to slow
and yet technically able to produce something to win a match in a second, never saw Prosinecki winning any 100m spint races ....
Pog: "Too slow". It's about technique as well as speed. Kranjcar's overall game has gone off the boil but, although handy, pace is not a prerequisite if you have guille and technique. Yes we could do with a skilled winger, who can beat people inside and out and deliver telling crossses with either foot week in and week out. Is that SWP? No one can be entirely sure because, frankly, he's hardly played.
Kranjcar produced the goods for Pompey last season (along with Muntari & a few others). But where SWP's is a quick little bugger, i think what Tim just said was spot on. SWP's would only be a solution for one of our problems - Pace. (im sure we have a few at the moment...)
Kranjcar over SWP for me too without a doubt
