'Arry dismisses Hammers/Belhadj interest admission

'Arry dismisses Hammers/Belhadj interest admission

Harry Redknapp has been linked with a return to West Ham, with 'rumours' over the weekend claiming that he could be approached if/when Alan Curbishley goes, with some journalists even claiming that he would go as he could do no more here...

You worry that this is a post that could tempt him, but with him having reiterating his commitment to us over and over, and also turning down other jobs he just could not do such a thing and he has told The Daily Star that this will not happen: 'I am not interested in going anywhere else.

'I have had some offers before but I am happy where I am.'

If the chance comes up it will be interesting to see what happens, but as said you just cannot see - well I cannot anyway - him leaving Pompey again, as he could not walk away from us again. I hope - and feel - that we will have him here for some time yet...

Also, Nadir Belhadj has been 'linked' constantly with Pompey over the summer and Harry Redknapp has admitted to The News that the Algerian left back is a player that he would like to bring in.

He can play as a left back, or a wing back which could make him a possible option on the left side of midfield if needed, however the only chance of him coming in would be on loan: 'I'd like to get the Algerian, but don't know if I can.

'It would only be a loan. That's what we're looking for.

Redknapp also spoke about his desire to bring someone in on the right side: 'we have a problem on the right, too. We need someone with pace. We have no one there like that at the moment.'

I am not sure if he means cover at right back, as cover would be the only thing needed - not that we do need this, or a right winger? I assume he means a right winger but we do have John Utaka, who has pace to burn, unless this means he will be used as a striker this season - or he acknowledges that he is not the player he was hoping to have got...

Either way, if we can bring this Belhadj fella in on loan, from what we have seen of him we could do worse!

Further to my article Glen Johnson - The right sided option!. Please Harry give the lad a go in midfield, you seem happy to move others around, so why not him. You know he's got the pace and the skill to get by players (nipped past Cole quite nice yesterday). Then you could bring Cranie in, who if it wasn't for his injury last year may ahve been pushing GJ for his place anyway?

For the first time ever I think herman looked a bit old and lacked pace yesterday, so bringing in some younger blood could be great if we can.
18/08/2008 13:22:00
i agree entireley, i always thought Hreidarsson was a good squad player, but we definatley need a regular LB

Yeah and sorry to say poor old Sol got left to look a right mug again. As long as he doesn't have to chase back then he's ok, but his legs are gone. Not sure if Kaboul is the answer yet as he will need match play to get fitness up and then a run in the team as centre back. But assuming GJ was allowed to move forward my back four would be Cranie, Kaboul, Distin and Herman.

yep campbell and hermann are starting to go so we need some fresh legs belhadji would be a good signing as he is young , quick and skillful but morning papers see us linked with juan pablo sorin does that mean 1 player will leave or a player in mid ????

is it just me or has any1 else considered thomas gravesen? he's just been made a free agent and i think he and steven appiah would give us that edge in centre midfield, i konw gravesen wouldnt be able to play every game but surely he would be useful in europe and key games with his experience? also, i think in january if we have any money, a bid for leon osman would be on the cards if hes at the right price!

I hate to be the pessimist, but I can't see why Lens would want to let us have Belhadj on loan. It seems like they wouldn't have any trouble finding someone who wanted to buy him if they wanted to let him go. Apparently we're also looking taking another look at Juan Pablo Sorin, who has been released by Hamburg.

unless we loan them a couple of players. what happened to aubey, i thought he looked decent when i saw him, bolton game
18/08/2008 19:48:00
Phil totally agree Harry will have to work his magic to land him on a loan, but he has done magic before. Haz Stephen Appiah would be great on a free but as we know frees always come with high wage demands ,& Gleams with you on that one I thought Aubey was one for the future did well at totenham too.

Appiah has said he is in no hurry and is considering his options. This is another way of saying he will see who gets desperate first and will pay him the most.

Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
