Appiah on a free? Yes please!

There are some rumours doing the rounds that Pompey target Stephen Appiah is now a free agent.

The Ghanaian captain has been linked with Pompey several times over the years and the news that he is now a free agent - with it suggested that he has agreed a severance with Fenerbahce to leave the Turkish club, with some reports saying that he was disappointed with treatment received to a major injury which caused him to miss the African nations - will be music to Pompey ears...

Appian if quoted on the Ghanaian FA Site as having told African Radio station Happy FM: 'Now I am a free agent.

'A few issues happened between me and the club so I no longer play for them.'

His injury was a pretty severe one and he has not played since November last year but he says that he feels good and just wants to play again, but the move must be the right one with him playing down the suggestion that he is heading to Brescia in Italy: 'those stories about me and Brescia are not true. My personal trainer works with Brescia and I did a lot of work with him there during the off season so maybe that is where the rumours are from.

'But there a few offers I am studying even though I am not in a hurry. I want to make the right choice. At the end of it all the most important thing is that wherever I end up, I will give it my absolute all.'

If he is fully fit and available on a free it is a no-brainer isn't it, we would be crazy not to bring him in if we can...

The 'major' problem is can we afford him? We are selling players to balance the book so it does not look likely. He might be a free agent but he still needs paying, and he will not come cheap!

We were linked to him last year, but he suffered a blood clot or something... think of it - players get injured after just being linked to our club!

Please let us have him, it's only fair. We only have 2 midfielders :( If i have to watch us line up in a 7-2-1 formation again...

Wages? He will be expensive and we don't have the cash flow especially if we pay him until he gets fit.

Definitely Arry's kind of player....as captain of Ghana, wasn't he previously viewed as a superior player to Muntari, or is that just wishful thinking on my part? Hope we get him.

Well thank you Nodster, and we hope you have a good day as well. The sun is shining here and Charlie Chimes has got a good feeling and so have I. I'm just off to buy the papers and there's bound to be a great big article in it saying "Appiah wants to come to Portsmouth cos all his African mates are there and no, the money doesn't bother him, its the people that matter". Take no notice of me, I think the fairies were here in the night!)

If he is on a free, plenty will bite.

True we did get linked to him, but picked up Muntari instead, would go straight in the team with Diarra & fill the gap left by Muntari & Mendes to think he was Captain of Ghana with Essian & Muntari alongside him speaks volumes, would love to get him if finance allows. Only thing Totenham & West Ham also showing an interest, & even more when they find out he's a free agent. Go on Harry do your magic.
