Crouch left out by Capello but Pompey trio in

Peter Crouch has been left out of the England squad to face the Czech Republic in a friendly this week - however David James, Glen Johnson and Jermain Defoe have all been included.

I do not think that we can really read too much into this as to be honest as Fabio Capello was at Wembley last weekend and Crouch would not have impressed him!

The facts that he plays for Pompey and that he has left Liverpool are irrelevant as the truth is the guy is not fit, he looked nowhere near it last weekend so it is little wonder he had been left out this time - but he will be back.

My main concern is for his fitness against Chelski tomorrow, I hope he has been able to improve this over the week...

Goalkeepers:
David James (Portsmouth), Paul Robinson (Blackburn), Joe Hart (Manchester City)

Defenders:
Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Jonathan Woodgate (Tottenham), Matthew Upson (West Ham)

Midfielders:
Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Tottenham),

Strikers:
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Wigan)

Fair comment about fitness although Johnson didn't look any better. I am not suprised to see Heskey in. He has been very underated.

Crouchy will be back. Last few times I remember seeing Heskey for England he was outstanding (didn't he get injured after that or something). The other three should all get a game at least.

Friendlies are for trying players. It keeps Crouch fresh for us & the league game.

One off game won't worry to much, & we all know he will go with Rooney & Owen when & if they are both fit.

Only taking 3 strikers though doesn't sound too positive does it. 4-5-1 formation all the way

This is surely good news for Pompey. No chance of him picking up injury in a meaningless match.

Let's hope that Crouch will be considered for the WC Qualifier(s). I personally would at least put him in there rahter then Heskey. Yeah, it wa sa friendly, and i hope Capello has thought 'Well putting Heskey in there was a big mistake'. Was waiting for him to call up Titus Bramble after i heard about Heskey being in the squad again! Johnson - Will be in the squad for a long time, i hope. Quality player.
.Andrew.
