Thomas on Pompey move/Scolari on the title

Thomas on Pompey move/Scolari on the title

Some 24 hours or so ago Jerome Thomas was preparing for a game against Watford with Charlton, but now he is part of the squad going to Chelski tomorrow!

We all know that Harry Redknapp has made some very shrewd signings over the years and as Thomas has told The News he wants to be the next: 'if you look over the years at the type of player that Harry has brought to clubs, I think I'm that type of player.

'I think I can bring some intensity and some flair. So I want to make Harry look like a smart man again for bringing me to the club.'

'I was preparing for Watford this weekend, but then I got a phone call on Thursday to pack up and get down here.

'Now I'm looking forward to Chelsea on Sunday.

'It feels great. It's the happiest point of my career so far and I'm looking forward to it.'

Although the signing of Thomas at this moment in time was a surprise, overall it is not really as Redknapp has been linked with the winger on and off for a couple of years now.

Ok, he is not the kind of signing that we can get overly carried away about - or shout and scream about, but as I keep saying to bring in that natural width is a bonus. If he can perform to his best then I do not think that he, or we, will do too badly this season...

==========

Pompey title contenders?

Well if 'Big' Phil Scolari says so then I am not going to argue with him...

In a press conference yesterday the Chelski boss said that the title was not just about them, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manyoo, he also mentioned Spurs and Porthsmouth - there you go Chixy he will take one of the Vital shirts from last season :-) The printers must have been using the Brazilian pronunciation of Portsmouth!

I am happy with that - I guess I better dig out my online betting password then...

Good luck to Jerome, I hope he does well. He is one of those suprise signings we weren't expecting. I think it means the SWP deal is truly dead in the water though. As for Chelski, Scolari also said that they only way they wouldn't win on Sunday is if they played badly. Hm .. unfortunately probably right.

Nice for him to cover his own back for the first game though by saying we are in contention!

Well, I hope he's different to the other 'answer to our width problems' wingers (Koroman, etc). Anyone know if he can cross a ball, a dying art in the prem?

his skill is apparently not in doubt, its his temprement, he is " a great prospect but a bit highly strung and childish" is how my addick mate just described him, although thats what gooners and chelski players said about Diarra

He'll give us some width options & in the right games will do quite well.

Routledge, Koroman, Douala, Little, Thomas - I suppose we will find a winger one day!

Done Deal - Walsall compensated for Lalkovic

Milan Lalkovic has become Pompey's sixth signing of the summer. A compensation agreement with Walsall was agreed that has seen the former Chelsea winger join the Blues.

Solving that goalie quandary

I'm not sure our problem with finding a 'regular' no.1 last season was behind our failure to gain promotion from league two was it? Clearly it didn't help mind.

Pompey's attacking intent

Something Pompey (attacking intent) will look to show next season to get out of league two once and for all. Smith came in from Swindon last week but Cookie wants another striker.
