Pompey deny FA charges

Pompey have denied any wrong doing following a charge from the FA for a breach of transfer rules. If we just stopped dealing with Willie McKay we would make life a lot simpler for ourselves! As a result of this it is being 'reported' that we 'could' face a possible transfer ban?

This is what the Pompey Site has said on the matter...

PORTSMOUTH FC STATEMENT

Portsmouth Football Club strongly deny charges by the FA in relation to an alleged breach of FA rules connected with the transfer of Benjani Mwaruwari to and from the club.

Under The FA's Football Agents Regulations, agents are prohibited from acting for two different clubs in two consecutive transactions involving the same player. Clubs are not allowed to use the services of an agent in such circumstances.

But a Pompey spokesman denied the club had acted inappropriately.

He said: "We did not pay an agent when Benjani joined the club from Auxerre in January 2006, and his transfer to Manchester City in January 2008 was approved at the time by the Premier League and the FA's compliance unit.

"This is nothing more than a technicality which we will strongly contest."

Pompey have until August 29 to respond to the charges.

This whole word of transfers and agents is a bit of a mystery to me so I don't really understand this. What doesn't make sense is that surely every player has 'his' agent, so that same agent will be used every time he moves? This looks to me like someone digging away trying to find something on Pompey - I wonder if Panorama are behind it.

I think all of our transfers will be scrutinised. Lets hope we did nothing wrong.
sneakay
tracyc has a point, under this ruling a player will need a new agent every time he moves. This cannot be right, agents surely can keep a player for his total career. What am I missing? Also the time taken to unearth this fact does not make sense.

007, I don't think it means that - the way I see it means that an agent cannot act for the selling Club and then act for the acquiring club when it comes to selling that player on. However, it does allow the agent to act for the club when they purchase a player and again when they sell the player. Unless somebody else has a better understanding?

CW, I think I am there, but let my mind have another go at it, ah!, thats better. I think.

as usual it's willie the crim mckay and even though he is not involved Harry's face is all over the papers linked with dodgy dealings. why do pompey deal with Mackay, will we never learn? Quite frankly i hope they throw the book at him, lets just remember this is the man that maserminded the yak's attitude problem and departure and then threatened the lady agent, what a brave fellah. i am also fuqing delighted to confirm that the french revenue police are after him as well. lets hope they get him for pompey's sake.

ChrisW the rule is in place to stop agents moving unsettling their clients (players) whome quite often are not the smartest cookies on for the sake of it, something that Mackay was accused of many times previously. It is also their to stop pre arranged sell on deals whic are illegal under fifa following corruption problems in italy
russellm
Thanks for the clarificaiton Russell. This doesn't help Harry's case for leniency with the press does it?
ChrisW
20 point deduction coming along :-)
merlin
When will the accusations stop? Someone's really got it in for either 'Arry or Pompey..... Get the tin foil hats out.
Tantona
Don't even suggest that Merlin, after seeing the scandalous points deduction issued to Luton nothing would surprise me at all.
Tantona
Thats right Tantona they can't get us in one technicality they keep trying another to save face, its perfetic.

If West Ham get a fine on what they did, we'll get the usual wrap of the knuckles. These FA police are really jobs worth.
