Its back! 2008/09 Pompey Prediction League

How to enter...
Welcome to the 2nd annual Pompey Predictions League - many of you will be familiar with the format having taken part in the competition last season as well as the quite similar summer Euro 2008 predictions league game.

As before this is a very simple idea that will take minimal time and effort, but should be a bit of fun for us throughout the 2008/09 season.

To take part in this simple but effective, yet best of all free idea all you have to do is be a member of this site - sign up here - and be willing to spent a few moments before each game that Pompey play to put forward your prediction on what you think the result will be and who will be its Pompey goalscorers.

The rules...
You will have up until the time of kick off to get in your predictions - anytime after will not count, with points then accumulated throughout the season.

For each league game Pompey play a new thread within this forum will be created and you simply give your prediction on these 3 areas:

1) Pompey will win, lose or draw
2) What the score line will be
3) Who will score for Pompey

Threads for the opening month of the season have been created, so check them out...

  • v Chelski 17/10/08
  • v Manyoo 25/10/08
  • v Everton 30/10/08

    How the points scoring works...
Points will be scored for correct predictions in each category and will be given as follows:

  • Correctly predicted match outcome = 2 pts.
  • Correctly predicted score line (if you predict a 1-0 Pompey win, if they lose 1-0 it does not count) = 2pts.
  • Correctly predicted goalscorer = 2pts for each correct goalscorer. If you predict that a player will score more than 1 goal you get 2pts for each goal he does score that you correctly predicted.
  • Bonus points: If you are spot on with the exact result, score and goalscorer(s) - and the amount each player scores if you predict they will score more than 1 goal - you also get a bonus of 10pts. If you predict a 0-0 result and this happens this will count and the 10pt bonus given, however you will not receive 2pts for the 'goalscorer' prediction, even though you would technically be right in saying there would not be any.

It is that simple really, but for example:
For the opening game at Chelski I may go for Pompey to win 2-1 with Defoe and Distin scoring. If this happens I would get 2pts for the win prediction, 2pts for the 2-1 score line prediction, 2pts each for the Defoe and Distin scoring predictions (4pts) so 8pts overall - there would also be 10pt bonus for being spot on = 18 pts in total.

Only predictions within the prediction forum will count, anywhere else, even if you are right will not count - you only have until kick off to register a valid prediction.

Points are carried forward continuously and the member who has the most accumulated points at the end of the competition will be the winner.

Only league games are covered in this game, but there might be a 'spin off' combined competition for all league cup, FA cup and uefa cup games too?

    The prizes...
As with last season 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will all win something, the higher the placing the better the prize - what these prizes are have yet to be confirmed, but something for nothing cannot be bad can it!

And this really is something for nothing; there are no catches.

To keep this idea of interest to members that may join as the season goes on, although you might not be able to win it outright you might still have a chance of winning a prize, as the member(s) with the most points each month will also all go into a draw with the first randomly selected member also gaining a prize at the end of the season.

    Get involved...
This is quick, easy, effective and best of all free.

It is a bit of fun and should get some banter going, so I hope plenty of you get involved again - what have you got to lose guys? It is not as if you are not coming on the site anyway, so take a slight detour before each game we play and join in to stand the chance of winning something.

    So who is in?
