Pompey still looking at Hyland

You might remember the name Khaleem Hyland?

Well, the youngster had a trial with Pompey last summer, along with a couple of his countryman - Lester Peltier and Atullah Guerra - and all three of them we offered deals at the time but sadly work permits were refused...

Pompey have been back in for Hyland and looked to have arranged a deal for the 19-year-old Trinidadian at the start of last month, however despite the fact that he is now a full international the midfielder still falls short of the criteria required to gain a work permit - so our efforts to bring him in could be scuppered again!

Peter Storrie remains hopeful that he can still be granted this work permit - as he is a fine prospect - but he does not know how long we will have to wait to find out: 'we have always been looking at Hyland but there are complications with the work permit situation.

'At the moment he fails to satisfy the criteria. He has played in friendly matches but they have to be competitive so do not count.

'It's a shame because he is very much one for the future and a player we are interested in.

'We are not even sure when we will find out the outcome, it's a case of how long is a piece of string.

'The powers that be are still working towards the permit so we will just have to wait and see.'

Hyland is currently a free agent after rejecting a new contract offer from San Juan Jabloteh.

How about we sign him and loan him to our Waregem mates until he is eligible for a work permit.

similar to what Liverpool have done with that Leto guy, theyve sent him out on loan for two years!

Well any signings now are going to have to be on the cheap..or so says Storrie in the Snooze: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Storrie-No-more-big-deals.4384916.jp

Hey Ballboy, just had a look on the Town website, the lad sounds a bit of a prospect, could be worth a look.

i saw him up in the stand along with the oxford scout at the qpr game (yesterday) !! we paid bout £1.2 mill 4 him from watford he is still young , quick , skillful and has lots of poteinal redknapp said he was gd wen we played dem at county ground so it might or might not come off but i doubt it cuz other clubs r looking he wont get 1st team footy and he only joined us in the summer !! play up pompey and swindon !!!
stfc ballboy
That clever ploy of signing him and loaning him out to the Belgians sounds like a winner!

Well if I am not mistaken that is the whole point of having a belgium club link up. It is especially good that the club is in the top flight there giving the players a chance to see good first team experience while gaining their work permits.

Hyland did better than most when he played against England, gave Gerrard a torrid time, would love to see him join us. (good shout No 9).
