Pompey bring in Lopez on trial

The trialist who turned out for Pompey against Gosport in last nights 4-1 win has been revealed as Jordi Lopez.

The Spanish midfielder, who was with both Barcelona and Real Madrid as a youngster is undergoing what it believed to be a weeklong trial with Pompey as he aims to win himself a contract. After spells with the Spanish giants he moved onto Sevilla, where he won the uefa cup in 2004 and then onto Real Mallorca, who released him this summer with him spending last season on loan with Racing Santander.

Lopez is described as a defensive midfielder, who can also play on the right side of midfield.

Yep, we all know - and you can be damn sure Harry Redknapp knows it too - we are in desperate need of some width in our squad but there is no harm in taking a look at this fella is there - you never know if things work out the 27-year-old could prove a transfer masterstroke...

Sounds as though he showed some nic touches at Privett Park last night too.
And there's talk that Utaka might be wanted out in France?
Why did Mallorca and Racing Santander let him go?
sounds promising and lets face it if hes free then why not taking him even if its just to bolster the squad numbers, altho saying that Arrys frees are usually the best deals he does lol
pretty sure there was a rumour knocking round the other day linking Utaka with Juventus.....
In the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost, Amen. Please God, please make Juventus want Utaka, please make Utaka want to go to Juventus. Amen
Gandor,lmao at that!!
and now Lille.... maybe they havent seen any footage of him play for us ?
if we could get most of the money back for Utaka and sell Nugent and maybe Davies surely that would give us enough to go out and buy a winger at least... we might have made a mistake missing out on Guitierrez (sp) wat about N'Zogbia ?
Hey, Gandor, I've suddenly become religious as well! Please God let them pay 7 million plus, too!!
reckon if we cud get 5m we might be best to cut our losses
Can't say I know to much about him only what I have read, but Tim has a good point.
'Shaun Wright-Phillips insisted he had no intention of joining Pompey'

Well thanks Shaun, but letting us know a bit earlier would have made us happier and have helped you avoid the abuse you'll get at Fratton when you're on the bench for Chelsea. That's, of course, if you're in the squad.
So, naf off, you little chancer.

Woah what's with the dodgy fonts? Anyway. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Mvuemba next year, he looked like he had a lot more meat on him on Sunday.
he has looked ok in pre season as has Sahar and Little, not too sure about Sol though... doent quite look with the game ?
Was Little injured for the Community Shield? 'arry has been raving about him, and he wasn't in the squad, did 'arry make his mind up at Havant?
Little had a "knock" apparently.
dont know too much about him except he has dissappointed with his attitude whereever he has been, not too much of a prospect at first glance and according to my Madrista mate certainly not the star the News would jhave us believe; but it would be nice to be wrong about him. Personally i wouyld like to see a Muntari replacement to fill the gap between forwards and the midfield, service is everything
i reckon Babayaro, Appiah on the cheap and a last minute deal for Govou
and maybe out, Nugent, Trajore and Davis....
I am a big fan of nugent - but he needs to go out on loan at least for 6 months, traore I think we will keep for a while as a back up left back (or more to the point, becuase nobpdy wants him), and davis we need to keep, as with muntari having left, we dont want to suddenly be short f midfielders. I don't know about lopez though, but if he's free...
Jordi Lopez .... Who ? Being a Real Madrid and Barca youngster doesn't mean a lot.. They take so many players on it's inevitable some aren't gonna make it.. No harm in a trial though is there ..
Songoo being a point in question Chix
Jordi - 2 appearances for Real Madrid, 37 for Sevilla and 24 for Real Mallorca before making 14 appearances for Racing Santander on loan. 2 goals both for Sevilla.
Not exactly a lot of appearances since 2002 is it?...Why??
Good info southport. Doesn't sound too impresive really does it.
Et_tu_Pompeii, those 'quotes' ran in the news were several weeks old anyway weren't they... whilst i would still like him to sign - and wouldnt be surprised to see it happen at some point before the transfer window or in january - we need a left sided player more.
also, remember defoe was saying this over and over and arrived in the end - he is saying what he feels he has to say...
dont know much about lopez, but certainly no harm in trialing him is there...
I saw the Appiah link would I be right in saying e played in the number 3 shirt for Ghana in the last world cup? If so I thought he was fantastic then, when we got Muntari I thought it was him we were signing, maybe Redknapp's realised his mistake, made a profit on Muntari and has now gone to get the real thing ;-)
scratch that, number 3 was Gyan, he played in no. 10, i'm sure he was there second best player though :-)
Re Lopez having played for Real Madrid.....Julio Iglesias played in goal for them but I don't want Harry to sign him up as back-up for Jamo!!!! What's the guy done lately and what value will he add to the squad?
I did a bit of research on Lopez. His best position is as an attacking left sided midfielder. He got out of favour at Real Madrid and they imported other more experienced players over him. He has then moved around a bit and been played as a journeyman in all sorts of positions but rarely in his best position. We have no one who is a true wide left player and Lopez appears, on paper at least, to go someway to fitting the bill. Again paying his wages might be the biggest problem.
