'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kaboul on his Pompey move

After finally completing his much anticipated move to Pompey today Younes Kaboul again stressed to the Pompey Site that Pompey was the only club that he wanted to come to, hence his decision to do so: 'it wasn't a difficult choice to make coming here. Everyone in the papers was saying I was going to Sunderland or Aston Villa but I wanted to come here straight away.

'As soon as I knew they were interested I said: 'I want to come to Pompey'.

'I came here because the manager has wanted me for two years. I met him two years ago when I was at Auxerre and I like the man because he gives you confidence.

'It's a good opportunity for me because the club has a lot of ambition.

'I think Pompey are a top-five Premier League side and I believe I can achieve what I want to achieve at this club. Hopefully we can get off to a good start.

'I enjoyed my year at Tottenham and it taught me many things. I'm still young and I made progress but now I hope to make more progress here.'

The French defender - who can also act as a midfielder - believes that the quality of player we have here means we can kick on from what we have started. He also welcomes the competition for places: 'the players at the club have everything needed to do well this year. Players like Defoe, Distin and Campbell make up a really good side.

'I played with Defoe at Spurs and it's good to meet up with him again. He always talked to me at Tottenham and helped me to adapt. He told me Portsmouth is a good club to play for.

'There are experienced players like Sol and Sylvain who I can watch and learn from. It can only help me to play alongside them.

'It does mean that there is a lot of competition for places but that's good - it keeps everyone focused.

'Also, I can play in midfield or at the back - I don't mind really. The important thing is that I'm here and ready to play.

'I really want to do a good job here.'

I think that Kaboul will prove a fantastic signing, both in the short and long term as he is a quality defender who simply lost his way at Spurs. A year or so working alongside the likes of Sol Campbell, Sylvain Distin and Linvoy Primus, not forgetting the coaching from Tony Adams and we will see the defender that had such a high reputation return!

If only we could now add some width to our side/squad - we so desperately need this, and have done so for the past 12-months...

just want to echo Rug's words really, personally I think Kaboul is a fantastic signing. What with Linvoy & Sol nearing the end of their careers we needed to look to the future, & Kaboul fits the bill 100%!! 22, international with tons of promice!! Alot of Tottenham fans rate him, & are gutted to see him go!
CharlieChimes
many of the guys on vital spurs are regretting seeing him leave (equally, many think letting him go is good) - I think he will improve massivly, and maybe he won't come starit in but he has the makings of a great partnership - maybe with martin cranie - in the future.
pompeycarpet
Man, this came out of nowhere. Totally unexpected :-)
Phartman87
hopefully cranie and kaboul for the future carpet like you said once kaboul speaks english this will be a great partnership !! all we need now is a left back and wide players !!! come on harry wave that magic
stfc ballboy
i don't think a left back is really a priority heiridesson's done a fantastic job for us there, what we need is another winger preferably who can play both flanks altho that said i think little can play both well and will prove to be a fantastic signing, maybe someone like arron lenon?
pompeym@
Carpet - I like the tact you used when describing the reaction at Vital Spurs - some of the language is disgusting!! Kaboul and Distin will have plenty of life in them and they both speak French which will help them learn each others game. Not that I am writing off Sol quite yet.
eastneydave
Personally, I think Harry has done it again and will polish a very rough diamond and make him sparkle, and that he will turn Kaboul into one of the PLs great CB's...obviously, I hope that my assessment is totally wrong! But good luck to him, and luck to the Posh.
Spursex
It does help when a player want's to play for you same as Crouch, we have Harry to thank for that, now everyone want's a wide right player so who will it be (if any) Lennon, Wright-Phillips or Govou.
pompeyyong
pompeyyong, you're pushing your luck now - and you have definitely run out of credit...
Spursex
im delighted we have finally got kaboul! after being at wembley yesterday, campbell looked somewhat off the pace. kaboul should give him some good competition and hope4le encourage him to work harder and concentrate more in order to keep his place in the team.
pompeyhaz
Great signing. Now with the friendly vs. Gosport in the middle of the week hopefully we can see Bhasera play...and see if we may have found a good potential LB on the cheap.
pompeywa
he was originally signed by spurs and the us as a centre back, the only isue with him seems to be his penchant for being caught out of position on the left wing, :-) where most of our defenders end up. Otherwise you cannot fault the man's loyalty, he has been clear from the start it was harry and pompey only for him, in fact it was his outspoken loyalty to Jol that started his down fall at spurs.
russellm
I heard today tht we are after someone called Simone Barone from Torino on a loan deal. He is a midfielder and is 30. I have given more info in the transfer thread. Read it in the Mail, I'm afraid - no priviledged info or anything!
Gandor
Kaboul sounds like a nice young lad, and hopefully with Distain and the others looking after him, he will feel at home quickly and get stuck in.
Gandor
where u all gettin this Lennon thing from?? ive been on all the sites and never seen his name mentioned.. We gotta get a wide man though! if i were rich i'd buy us Podolski!
nodster
nodster, that is why lennon is a possibility. I am sure spurs will be trying to lower their wage bill. They have an over abundance of midfielders, and have just signed David Bently. A season long loan may well be on the cards
harrissman
Thank god we didn't sign Kaboul. I'm happy with Cuellar : ).
los_angeles_villan
I'm wondering if it was Barone who was the trialist at Boro last night, he certainly had an Italian look
paultsmouth
why do we keep gettin nobs from other forums on ere? aston villa are crap, and will continue to be crap for many years
nodster
lots of newspapers linking us with Appiah. Would be more than happy with that.
harrissman
Great news finally on Kaboul, he will be an excellent addition to the squad.
sneakay
He can learn from three masters; Tony, Sol and Distin.
NinjaTim
Nodser; guests from other forums are welcome here if I'm not much mistaken. Furthermore, he wasn't exactly being abusive - merely expressing his opinion. Let's hope Villa don't make YOU look a knob in the coming season. LA Villain; you're welcome to express you views here anytime and this forum, as I'm sure our Landlord will agree, has a good relationship with the Villa.
NinjaTim
well said ninjatim, and kaboul is a good signing, lets hope he has more pace than our current defence is showing. apparently he can play defensive mid as well, and has a pretty mean shot on him too!
jbaker
I just dont see the point in writing a comment on another teams forum
nodster
Never mind Nodster, ave a cup of tea and chocolate Digestive!

Nodster: The Vital Football community extends beyond the boundaries of Fratton Park and, as I'm sure many would agree, we've shared some interesting and constructive exchanges with fans of other clubs, both on Vital Pompey and the Vital forums of other clubs. Indeed, many, including Villa, have made excellent contributions with leading home page articles on our site and I'm pretty sure Rug (our landlord) has reciprocated. Maybe you don't see the point (and that's fine) but one of the attractions of the Vital Pompey site is that we try to avoid the partizan vitriol that is so often spewed out on other fans' sites (various Pompey fan sites too). At the end of the day (to coin a football cliche), we all support football.
NinjaTim
sorry for my lack of imput recently, a combination of a virus and being away has seen me laid low...
difference of opinions, and those from other clubs too is what vital football is all about and makes it so much better than anywhere else!
all fans can go wherever they want and discuss things and share banter, which is what i really like.
mindless and unrequired views arent appreciated, but more often than not we do not see much of this really...
i agree with the cliche, we do all support football
pompeyrug
nicely said Ninja, that is exactly the idea of Vital and we do try to remove the vitrolic rubbish as much as possible!
The Fear
Yep, it's not like Vital is haunted by too many idiotic wum's (wind up merchants) anyway....if you don't allow banter with the fans of the many other teams it's not leaving a huge scope for unbiased debate!
Tantona
Oh, and Kaboul's a good signing in my opinion....may not have fulfilled his potential at White Hart Lane, but he was put into the first team earlier than planned anyway, and I reckon there's plenty more to come from the lad.
Tantona
ok, im down with that, lets role!
nodster
ahh ROLL... my spelling has been quite atrocious of late, many apologies
nodster
We'll bach him, no worries.
