Kaboul on his Pompey move

Kaboul on his Pompey move

After finally completing his much anticipated move to Pompey today Younes Kaboul again stressed to the Pompey Site that Pompey was the only club that he wanted to come to, hence his decision to do so: 'it wasn't a difficult choice to make coming here. Everyone in the papers was saying I was going to Sunderland or Aston Villa but I wanted to come here straight away.

'As soon as I knew they were interested I said: 'I want to come to Pompey'.

'I came here because the manager has wanted me for two years. I met him two years ago when I was at Auxerre and I like the man because he gives you confidence.

'It's a good opportunity for me because the club has a lot of ambition.

'I think Pompey are a top-five Premier League side and I believe I can achieve what I want to achieve at this club. Hopefully we can get off to a good start.

'I enjoyed my year at Tottenham and it taught me many things. I'm still young and I made progress but now I hope to make more progress here.'

The French defender - who can also act as a midfielder - believes that the quality of player we have here means we can kick on from what we have started. He also welcomes the competition for places: 'the players at the club have everything needed to do well this year. Players like Defoe, Distin and Campbell make up a really good side.

'I played with Defoe at Spurs and it's good to meet up with him again. He always talked to me at Tottenham and helped me to adapt. He told me Portsmouth is a good club to play for.

'There are experienced players like Sol and Sylvain who I can watch and learn from. It can only help me to play alongside them.

'It does mean that there is a lot of competition for places but that's good - it keeps everyone focused.

'Also, I can play in midfield or at the back - I don't mind really. The important thing is that I'm here and ready to play.

'I really want to do a good job here.'

I think that Kaboul will prove a fantastic signing, both in the short and long term as he is a quality defender who simply lost his way at Spurs. A year or so working alongside the likes of Sol Campbell, Sylvain Distin and Linvoy Primus, not forgetting the coaching from Tony Adams and we will see the defender that had such a high reputation return!

If only we could now add some width to our side/squad - we so desperately need this, and have done so for the past 12-months...

just want to echo Rug's words really, personally I think Kaboul is a fantastic signing. What with Linvoy & Sol nearing the end of their careers we needed to look to the future, & Kaboul fits the bill 100%!! 22, international with tons of promice!! Alot of Tottenham fans rate him, & are gutted to see him go!

many of the guys on vital spurs are regretting seeing him leave (equally, many think letting him go is good) - I think he will improve massivly, and maybe he won't come starit in but he has the makings of a great partnership - maybe with martin cranie - in the future.

i don't think a left back is really a priority heiridesson's done a fantastic job for us there, what we need is another winger preferably who can play both flanks altho that said i think little can play both well and will prove to be a fantastic signing, maybe someone like arron lenon?

Carpet - I like the tact you used when describing the reaction at Vital Spurs - some of the language is disgusting!! Kaboul and Distin will have plenty of life in them and they both speak French which will help them learn each others game. Not that I am writing off Sol quite yet.

Personally, I think Harry has done it again and will polish a very rough diamond and make him sparkle, and that he will turn Kaboul into one of the PLs great CB's...obviously, I hope that my assessment is totally wrong! But good luck to him, and luck to the Posh.

It does help when a player want's to play for you same as Crouch, we have Harry to thank for that, now everyone want's a wide right player so who will it be (if any) Lennon, Wright-Phillips or Govou.

im delighted we have finally got kaboul! after being at wembley yesterday, campbell looked somewhat off the pace. kaboul should give him some good competition and hope4le encourage him to work harder and concentrate more in order to keep his place in the team.
