Kaboul to finally sign?

The Mews of the World were first in this mornings paper, now official confirmation has come from Pompey's own website, this is what they had to say

'Younes Kaboul has agreed a four-year deal with Pompey.

The centre-half will have a medical at Fratton Park on Monday ahead of a proposed switch from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old made 19 Premier League starts for Spurs last season, scoring three goals.

"He`s a player the manager set his sights on very early," said Blues coach Joe Jordan.

"He`s been looked at by a number of clubs, but he wanted to come to us. He was influenced by the presence of Harry Redknapp and the players here who can help him develop.

"He`s a player that wants to progress. Lassana Diarra came here from Arsenal because he wanted to play regular football, and he`s flourished.

"Kaboul wants to come here and do that as well."'

This may either mean that Sacha has had his arm sufficiently twisted, or that one of our fringe players is on the verge of departing, Sean Davis never even made the subs bench today, and Nugent is heavily linked to depart either on loan or permanently, time will tell.

Kaboul has pace, judging by todays performance, it will be needed!!
paultsmouth
campbel looked old and slow, and distin looked like he could cover for any small mistakes. we need him!
pompeycarpet
completely agree hopefull when campbells back to full fitness he'll be alot better
pompeym@
Lets hope Kaboul is better than he has displayed so far. Very poor at the back today, as I keep saying on here Sol has lost the edge and all teams know to pass the ball between Campbell and Distin.
bluedr
Let's hope Kaboul can make a difference. Our entire back four looked shaky today, so perhaps some more steel in the centre will give Glen and Hermann some much-needed confidence.

Yeah, ive had my suspicions about Sol since last seaon, paticulally the game against Sunderland where Kenwyne Jones gave him all sorts of issues...really pleased with this signing, to find a really promising young cental defender is near on impossible!!!..so well done boys!...just want to send a shout out to Diop today, best performance Ive seen with him on the right!....even though he cant cross a ball....he really was a center-mid playing on the right!

Good news on a good day for Pompey. I thought we played well today but need to workout a way of creating chances for Crouch and Defoe. Midfield looked strong but not creative enough and there was no central defender on the bench. Kaboul will fill that gap.
eastneydave
I thought the midfield was poor and wastefull to often. they showed times when they out passed even untides star-studded midfield, however at times they just looked unfocused. However john utaka looked really up for it when he came on, and mvuemba looked good too. It was a shame cranie didnt get a run out though, and that linvoy got a little injury too.

If we are to sign kaboul as the pfc website says, then it must show to some of the doom and gloomers that there is money in the pot.

With Adams coaching him, you will have a brilliant player in a few months time. Has all the attributes of a quality CB, just needs to tune them and put them in order. Good in the air, tall, quick, strong. His only downfall is his liking of going forward all the time, but as I said Adams should coach that out of him and make him concerntrate on defending.

positive news on a generally positive day, 3 of our pen takers didnt finish the match so whon knowa, Diarra and Mendes were good together, a problem with a gap between the mid field and the front two and the lack of pace a real issue in the defence. Time can solve the first issue and Kaboul could solve the latter. I think 7 from the first 12 points available.
russellm
shelfsidespurs, that going forward out of position downfall can be applied to Herman, Glen J and Dystin, pace is our issue.
russellm
he will also drop the average age of our defenders by about 100 years

I wanted to see some of matrin cranie in that match (for all I know, he may have come on, but I didnt notice it!). It was dissopointing that diara and johnson missed the target completely - they were truly aweful penalties. Mvuembas was a textbook "if he goes early, slot it down the middle" job - the problem was, van der saar wasnt a textbook "go early, go quickly" keeper. mvuemba will only learn from experiance.
pompeycarpet
the gap between th midfield and attack has an easy sollution - kranjcar. the problem however is the absence of a left sided player. when utaka came on he looked good down the left, and maybe mvuemba and little could play there too in a 4-3-3 formation (or maybe even 3-5-2)
pompeycarpet
Though careless at times he has all the attributes to become one of the best CB's in the league, all he needs is a little patience and a lot of TLC. Best of luck with him. Any chance we can have Diarra in part exchange...Thought not :-)
Phartman87
Well that'll be bye bye to either Nuge or Davis. My thoughts are it'll be Nuge.
stillthewhizz
Good news about Kaboul.. Thought todays performace was ok although agree with the front link and the pace a the back.. but what about Kranjcar.. he was truly awful today ..unfit, not up for it and o be honest looked less than average.. if Monaco do offer us 12m for him I'd bite theri hand off,,, I really don't understand the fuss about Niko's brilliance.. to me Pompey played with ten me at times today and considering he's on of our 'crown jewels' I'm really disapointed with him... Diarra on the other hand ran our middle Pedro worked tireleesly alongside side him and even Diop although he provided no width had a good solid performance considering he was playing on the right..
Chix
I think Harry had bought and sold his way into an unblanced team. Agree with Chix, I don't understand the Kranjcar adoration, and I struggle to see how he will get in a 4 man mid-field if HR buys a strong left sided player. Shame we didn't sell him and keep Munters.
ChrisW
our team last year had a fantastic balance, my worry now is that it doesnt. Kranjcar I still think is a fantastic talent however he isn't yet fit, and when your on such a big pitch, that really shows.
pompeycarpet
Great news on finally getting Kaboul, let's hope he does prove himself now as Campbell looked to be all over the place yesterday.
sneakay
Yep! great news!!! good signing, sorry Phartman87, Diarra is all ours!! :)
CharlieChimes
Kaboul.....great signing - he has real potential and I hope he stays and learns his craft with us for a few years. Back to yesterday; I agree with Chix and co - Kranjcar, for all his "brilliance" last season, just didn't look like a team player yesterday. He simply didn't seem up for it. Now, a side can allow for that luxury if the match-winning flashes of guille are there but yesterday the guy was asleep. Yep, Diarra, Mendes and Diop put in a great shift, even if the final ball was generally poor...at least they looked like they cared! I read somewhere that we're after Aaron Lennon - anyone know anything about that? Also heard that both Nugent (loan) and Davis are off to West Ham.
NinjaTim
Have not heard anything on Lennon, but N.O.W say we may go for Sidney Govou of Lyon,& claim we made a 3m bid for Nadir Belhadj of AS Monaco
pompeyyong
Under the wings of Tny Sol & Distin, Kabull will do well. Otherwise he's off to the slaughter house!!!!
