Nugent Transfer Column

Nugent Transfer Column

Our favourite scouser signed with fanfares a short 12 months ago, he has represented England just 18 months ago, notching on his debut, but since then it just hasn't happened.
His debut season was blighted by a hernia he tried to play through, bad luck, and the early form of Benjani was enough to keep him to the bench.
After his hernia operation he did look a different prospect, his movement was great, and workrate reminiscent of our now departed Zimbabwean, when he dropped down to his familiar level of the Championship he scored goals in the cup, notably at favourite ground Portman road, he done enough to feature in our FA cup win at Wembley, but what now?

All summer he has been connected to different outfits, he has declared an interest to fight for his place, but realistically knows that Crouch, Defoe, Kanu and Sahar all stand in front of him.

Ipswich have alledgedly had a 5.5m offer for him, but has a reluctance to drop back down a level, however a loan deal has also been mooted, all this to a ground where he scores every time.

Hull City are another whose forums are claiming a loan deal for a season is a strong possibility, would a loan to Premiership rivals be more beneficial?

Pompey need some capital to finance in other areas, we are strong upfront so would we miss him? Would a season long loan to find his scoring prowess be more up our street?

there's no point loaning him back to the championship - we know he is good enough there - but if we loan him to hull, he would get plenty of experiance. I am sure he will make it, but now he is just too far down the pecking order...

Yes 6 mill paul, but thats the 3rd time he has been comming the next day lets hope its 3rd time lucky, also saying we might go for Sidney Govou & have also made a 3 mill bid for Lens left back Nadir Belhadj according to news of the world, all this with no funds. What can we believe?

Harry is a Magician or rather Storrie is. You just don't know. HP agreements? Mortgage? Pay as you go? Air Miles? Who knows. If it can be done, we'll do it! You gotta be positive!

like to see Nugent stay, i really believe he has something to offer, ok maybe defoe crouch kanu and sahar are in front of him. but sahar is only on 6 months loan, kanu is a great player but a little brittle. that could leave us weak in a season when we will be stretched further than ever before.

send him to Hulll on loan, if he does the business we get him back if not we do the deal. there is no guarantee that Sahar will fill the void, he has flattered to deceive where ever he has been;most QPR fans dont think that much of him and chelski let him go. it would appear to be one of those "isreali tie ups" we are starting to get used to. For me until Jan 09 at least it needs to be a loan not a sale

i wouldnt mind celtic taking him on loan for a season
10/08/2008 22:50:00

Chaplin secured

Chaplin had a contract with Pompey until 2018 but ahead of the disappointing Notts County defeat he extended his contract with the Blues until 2019.

Another Fratton disappointment

That 2nd half on Saturday against Notts County was woeful - absolutely awful wasn't it. The first 15-minutes or so of it was like a pre-season friendly to pre-season!

Match highlights - Pompey 1-2 Notts County

What a disappointment that was! The 1st half wasn't bad, in fact large chunks of it were good but the 2nd half was just woeful with a soft centred Pompey beaten 2-1 by Notts County.
