'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nugent Transfer Column

Our favourite scouser signed with fanfares a short 12 months ago, he has represented England just 18 months ago, notching on his debut, but since then it just hasn't happened.
His debut season was blighted by a hernia he tried to play through, bad luck, and the early form of Benjani was enough to keep him to the bench.
After his hernia operation he did look a different prospect, his movement was great, and workrate reminiscent of our now departed Zimbabwean, when he dropped down to his familiar level of the Championship he scored goals in the cup, notably at favourite ground Portman road, he done enough to feature in our FA cup win at Wembley, but what now?

All summer he has been connected to different outfits, he has declared an interest to fight for his place, but realistically knows that Crouch, Defoe, Kanu and Sahar all stand in front of him.

Ipswich have alledgedly had a 5.5m offer for him, but has a reluctance to drop back down a level, however a loan deal has also been mooted, all this to a ground where he scores every time.

Hull City are another whose forums are claiming a loan deal for a season is a strong possibility, would a loan to Premiership rivals be more beneficial?

Pompey need some capital to finance in other areas, we are strong upfront so would we miss him? Would a season long loan to find his scoring prowess be more up our street?

there's no point loaning him back to the championship - we know he is good enough there - but if we loan him to hull, he would get plenty of experiance. I am sure he will make it, but now he is just too far down the pecking order...
pompeycarpet
Rumours are that Kaboul is arriving tomorrow, must have financed it somehow
paultsmouth
Yes 6 mill paul, but thats the 3rd time he has been comming the next day lets hope its 3rd time lucky, also saying we might go for Sidney Govou & have also made a 3 mill bid for Lens left back Nadir Belhadj according to news of the world, all this with no funds. What can we believe?
pompeyyong
Harry is a Magician or rather Storrie is. You just don't know. HP agreements? Mortgage? Pay as you go? Air Miles? Who knows. If it can be done, we'll do it! You gotta be positive!

hopefully nugent stays to be honest he is one for the future and he can make it at this level just that he needs game time !! hopefully the rumours today are true i like kaboul he is solid and govou and belhadj are very quick and attacking so hopefully these do come off !!!
stfc ballboy
like to see Nugent stay, i really believe he has something to offer, ok maybe defoe crouch kanu and sahar are in front of him. but sahar is only on 6 months loan, kanu is a great player but a little brittle. that could leave us weak in a season when we will be stretched further than ever before.
Steve C
send him to Hulll on loan, if he does the business we get him back if not we do the deal. there is no guarantee that Sahar will fill the void, he has flattered to deceive where ever he has been;most QPR fans dont think that much of him and chelski let him go. it would appear to be one of those "isreali tie ups" we are starting to get used to. For me until Jan 09 at least it needs to be a loan not a sale
russellm
i wouldnt mind celtic taking him on loan for a season
belfast1981
needles to say;but i will:-) cant we give headless (Davis) away?
russellm
is davis that bad,i heard he wasnt a bad player, always gives 100 per cent.
belfast1981
davis is a great player... Nuggent could be a great player. Whilst we have sahar however, I would loan nuggent out. we dont need 5 strikers, and we want nuge to get as much time on the pitch in the premiership as possible so when he comes back, he can fight for a place with a bit of confidence.
pompeycarpet
Davis is a great player Carps.... streching it a little don't ya think? - He average/ok/solid at best.. As for Huge. I just hope it get's resolved... getting boring now ... If we need the money let him go - It's true he hasn't had the chances to prove himself .. but why not ?
Chix
I think a loan to either Stoke or Hull would be a win win situation for us and either of them. He needs to get Premiership playing time to see if he really is that good. If he is, we bring him back.
sneakay
agree sneakay, he knows in his heart of hearts that he will not get many chances of paying this yearas Kanu and Sahar will get the nod in front of him. I do admire him for wanting to fight for his place and holding out on being sold to Ipswich. He would know doubt shine again in the Championship, but the he has before and thats why we bought him. Loan him out and give him a chance to get goals and then make Happry have to bring him back.
blarmy
God I wish I check before I hit sumit button, sorry about the 'spolling'
blarmy
chix - davis is "great" at what he does...
pompeycarpet
I think Nugent has been treated badly by Harry. I heard today he may be off to West Ham on loan.
NinjaTim
I think we just have to loan Nugent to a prem team weather its for half or a whole season but Hull & Stoke both looking at the Chelsea lad now, so hope your right Tim West Ham could suit him as long as they give him games
pompeyyong
I like Nugent, he works hard and makes things happen, but he's not scoring goals, which is what he's paid for. It seems to me it's a matter of confidence. At the moment, on paper, we are not short of strikers so why not loan him to Ipswich in the Championship where he has a better chance of restoring the scoring habit. then try again at Fratton Park with his new-found confidence. If that doesn't work, then for his own good, he should be persuaded to go elsewhere. colsue

He won't even make the 7 subs bench at times. He's****ed HR off with not going to Ipswich & he'll only be used when it suits HR.
