Shorey exit expected this week

The grumpy man of football Steve Coppell - although there is something about him that I do like to be honest - has confirmed to the Reading Site that he expects Nicky Shorey to have completed his move away from the club by Sunday: 'without being specific about any destination, I expect Nicky to be gone by the time we kick off this weekend.

'There has been interest, and I expect him to be plying his trade with someone else by the time we get to Nottingham.

'He's been consistent right from this time last year.

'He's said he wanted to go, try a fresh challenge. We'll see what happens but I imagine he'll be gone.'

Reading rejected an offer for the England man - from an unnamed club - yesterday with some believing this offer had been from Pompey, but this is not thought to have been the case.

We 'could' sign him - the fact that we his best mate Glen Little helps - but I am not so sure we will as we might not pay what Reading are holding out for? Villa, West Ham and Sunderland are all also 'said' to be keen on him.

I can report some potential good news though, the word that I have is that Younes Kaboul will be at Pompey for a medical tomorrow with a deal completed on Friday!

Do not hold me to this, but I am told that this is a deal the person really does believe will finally happen after all the talk...

==========

Also, as had been briefly reported earlier in the week Danijel Subotic has now officially completed a move to our Belgian partners Zulte Waregem. The striker will be joining them on loan to gain some 1st team experience.

I reckon both will come and will be unveiled on Friday.
UKTony
Wouldn't be surpised by that. Anyone know more about the left back coming on trial from Zimbabwe?
pompeywa
Oh, now where is that crystal ball???? Hope so!!!!
storagematt
yh agree with tony they will be unveiled on friday. West ham have released freddie ljungberg reckon we will sign him because harry was chasing last summer but he chose west ham so dont be surprised people ........................
stfc ballboy
Sorry I reckon we'll get shorey at villa. Well I hope so as we are somewhat sparse at the back. Especially at the left if Barry does bloody eventually go. Any chance your billionaire could lend liverpool a few bob or rather £18m? You'll get Kaboul though and as for Ljungberg, good player yes, but injury prone. And when he's not injured he invariably has a headache. And as for his wages ££££££££! Are you sure!
tonybrum
Villa & Sunderland have both had bids turned down for Shorey Pompey have only expressed an intrest so who will make the right bid anyones guess? To be honest can't see Freddie playing in prem again. Hope your right kaboul Rug, but at what cost?
pompeyyong
us? billionair owner? sascha's only worth £30 million...(and I have no ea where he gets his money from...)! anyway, aparantyl, villa are now closer to signing him than we are - however we are doing quite well at nicking the players they want to sign... crouch, defoe...
pompeycarpet
...shorey?
pompeycarpet
Villa have money to burn & are desperate to sign anybody. I'll be very surprised if we sign Shorey when Reading want £5-6m for him. As for Freddie the Fag, brilliant in his day at arsenal but a shadow of himself now. West Ham were mad enough to pay him some £60k a week, allegedley!!!
storagematt
Kaboul yes... Shorey... not sure.... Freddie L .. five years ago perhaps, but not now.... but stranger things have happened!
Chix
Finally we might get to see some more action on the transfer front! Whoopeeeee.
sneakay
Don't hold your breath sneakay, but let's hope so.
pompeyyong
With Basera coming from Kaizer Chiefs for a trial, I think Shorey's extremely unlikely. I do hope we sign Kaboul though, as much for his sake as our own. We've sent the poor kid a number of mixed messages over the last few weeks, so I hope we don't let him down after all that.
PhilTaglia
Is Kaboul a left-hooker? If he signs, Harry may just integrate him as a left-back, he does tend to play centre-backs there
paultsmouth
Kaboul and Shorey would be great, but neither of them can be classed as the "big three signings" we were promised by Storrie... i dont think we have much chance of getting SWP now, he might have been onbe of them, along side Crouchie of course. I think Little might play quite a big part of next season and not just be a squad player, from what i gathered listening to the match last night Little was ten times more "bothered" than Utaka...
southportpompey
I feel a little sorry for Kaboul. He had clearly been iven the impression we were going to sign him, he made a choice, an now we are letting him down. this guy is only human after all! I would expect our "3 big signings" probably inculded kaboul/shorey, crouch and SWP - as storie probably considers anyone who is likely to claim a first team spot a "big signing" - which to be fair, they would do. (well, kaboul would give us more options)
pompeycarpet
shorey going to villa ?
pompey--pessimist
telegraph is reporting villa have had a £3.5m bid for shorey accepted....
southportpompey
I wipe my bum with the telegraph.. he'll be at LB for Chelsea game
nodster
tbh as ive said before if we had to end with what we have now i wouldnt be overly unhappy with our lot, the promises of '3 top quality signings' are something that i think we could have done without hearing and maybe shouldnt have heard...
that said kaboul 'will' sign, we were expected to tie this up this week but ive since found out that we are 'concerned' that villa will get shorey, so have put the kaboul deal on hold for a minute while we try to salvage that deal...
we 'might' get shorey, but i think it is more likely we will miss out on him - kaboul 'will' sign tho.
pompeyrug
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has been told he needs to sell players to raise the funds to buy Tottenham centre-back Younes Kaboul. (Daily Mail) If this is true then we are going backwards which is a shame after all the progress. MUNTARI?
Et_tu_Pompeii
the papers say alot of things tho dont they - we have rumour followed by rumour, i would be more than a tad disappointed 'if' we did still have to sell a star name to fund moves for any others, in which case i would leave things as they are...
pompeyrug
papers saying today that Harry has been told he needs to sell before he can buy Kaboul, so we'll end up with a couple of loan signings no doubt
harrissman
and Babayaro...
southportpompey
so... was muntari sold to fund crouch then?
pompeycarpet
It would seem that way carpet, we have not spent nothing this window if thats the case, but still have to sell to buy. "3 top players in" 1 in 1 out so far, how can you get 3 top players by selling fringe players, this is getting very frustrating, now we can't sell Kranchar as well as Muntari that would be shear madness.
pompeyyong
Vital Villa reporting the Shorey deal is complete.
pompey4me
As is Setanta Sports
eastneydave
Deal is done. We've got no cash. It's all in the coffers for the new stadia. We'll be forever feeding off scraps.
stillthewhizz
Can somebody tell me why we dont have any money all of a sudden? maybe Sascha lost all his money in the US Stock market crash
nodster
we should never have been made that promise of 3 top class footballers - maybe we could still see this happen but storrie shouldnt have come out with this as this raised expectations dramatically...
in all fairness the wage bill runs into millions per months, sasha is putting alot of money into the academy side of things and small improvements keep happening to fratton etc. not forgetting that fact that we have a multi million pound training complex to pay for too!
