First no Ronaldo and now no Rooney...
One player does not make a team, so with Manyoo having Ronaldo miss the charity shield on Sunday this did not mean that we would win it, but it gave us a hell of a chance... We must fancy it even more now with the news that Wayne Rooney will also sit out the seasons curtain raiser!
He has become a casualty of the Manyoo visit to South Africa, as it is said he picked up a virus whilst out there.
Manyoo still have a squad packed full of world class talent but if we wanted any more incentive to just go for it and look to win this is it as without these two they have lost a lot of quality.
I was looking forward to the game before, but I am looking forward to it even more now and have even more belief that we can win, although I always believe we will win a game no matter what - not that I am under the impression that we can just 'turn up and win it' now, as it does not work like that, but we have a cracking chance!

Speaking of Ronaldo I just noticed a little something on t'internet that 'claims' the Brazilian Ronaldo could be tempted to chance his arm in the English game, with Pompey being one of the teams after him following his release by Milan.
I would be very surprised if we did make an approach for him for a number of reasons, wages, fitness, the fact that he would expect to play week in week out when he would not etc. but it is amazing to think that we can be linked with players of his stature, even if he has become a fallen football superstar. What is more we can be 'linked' - no matter how untrue it might be - and think 'we do not need him'...
Who would have thought that possible a few years back eh!

so... we're too good for Ronaldo now...how times change! as for rooney not playing - all that saves us from is an underzised ogre who would tare his brains out at not touching the ball... and then doing nothing special when he does get it... "oh no!"

Gutted for them. Let's hope he's out for a few more weeks too. However if Diarra is missing it about balances it out!

This is still far from a push over and I would remind people that they beat us just a weak or so ago with almost a reserve team. I am not saying that we will loose but don't get too c0cky over the fact that 2 players are missing.

I dunno, maybe we could make good use of Ronaldo. Put him in Muntari's position and tell him to sit on the opposition's playmaker to stifle their ball coming forward.

from what ive read & seen if pompey play like they have been doing in the pre season matches it wont matter what the manyoo team is we'll get stuffed

It sounds like Rooney will miss the trip to FP as well...could we get two wins in a month over Manyoo? I wouldn't bet against us to do that!

Rubbish carps...in my opinion only Johnson and Herman did them selves any credit. (against hawks) Spose Mvuemba wasnt too bad, considering he was asked to play on the left. £15 was considered a bit steep!

I'm sory that Rooney and Ronaldo are out - as a spectacle for the fans it's always great to see world class players, especially in what is really a pre-season friendly of sorts. If it were the semi-final of the cup or even a PL game then I'd be delighted they are out.

It'll be a good game this Sunday, and much as I hate to admit it, I really do think you have a good chance. Ronaldo we can cope with fine being missing, but Rooney's absence always results in us struggling.
All I can say is... let the best team win :)
