Kaboul and Shorey apparently on the way to Pompey

Kaboul and Shorey apparently on the way to Pompey

Until it happens I will not believe it but 'reports' today claim that Younes Kaboul and Nicky Shorey will soon complete their moves to Pompey as Harry Redknapp looks to complete his summer transfers...

With so many rumours, and then counter rumours - with many contradictory - it makes it hard to know what to believe, but if we could make these transfers happen this week before the charity shield I would be more than happy.

That said - as much as I would like these deals to happen - at the end of the day, much as my cousin and I discussed yesterday when we chatted if we did not bring in anyone else this summer, so long as the vast majority stayed at put at Fratton on the whole we would be happy with our lot. The biggest plus would be a left sided midfielder, which I think after a lot of thinking is actually what we need more than anything as we really are down to the 'bare bones' here, but if we could not bring in anyone else now we would be content...

Look at it this way, despite the departure of Sulley Muntari you cannot question that we have a better squad than we did this time last year, and we are arguably - although some might not agree - stronger now than we were at the end of last season.

In hindsight I think that we could have really done without the 'promises' that where made at the start of the summer as to who would and would not arrive and the negativity coming from Redknapp - as much as I love the fella - because then I do not think we would be that unhappy at all, and rightly so...

'Apparantly' is he word that concerns me. However, we have huge credibility now & if we can pay the wages/fees we should be able to get who we want, outside the top 4 & the silly money Spurs & Man City are spending. Top players want to come to us & why shouldn't they?

I personally cant wait for the transfer window to close so all the rumours and paper talk will end. I'm with you Rug, the early promises we could have done without this summer has been (nearly) nothing but talk and speculation.

I would only believe this when it happens as the papers and that do talk **** . Kaboul will definately come as he said 'he only wants to join us'. But for shorey i reckon he might go to villa i hope i am wrong but i dont reckon he will be joining. But we need the players before the weekend as they can bond ready for the community shelid then the premiership (2 weeks time) .

Rug, I'm not sure we are any stronger than we were at the end of last season, even with Crouchie joining. I think we do need another left back and Shorey would fit the bill but I think he may end up elsewhere. Kaboul I'm not convinced by as player or a person but again think we need CB cover as Campbell will have been found out for this season. Still think we need players who can get the ball in the box for Crouchie and Defoe and as yet I don't see them in the squad. I spent some time yesterday having a look through current squads and there possible finishes. I've got us down for 8th or 9th.

Great thing we have over Villa, is that Shorey must live pretty near by, so its proberbley better for his family/social situation to come to us....plus Little is ment to be his best mate, should help. Still, paper talk is just talk, I dont believe any of it now, how the hell are you ment to know if anything is credible??

I'm not sure we're stronger than we were a year ago either. Theoretically, of course we are, with Crouch, Defoe and Diarra coming in and Benjani and Muntari going out, but from what I've seen so far this preseason, we don't look anything like as strong in defence as we did last year. Shorey and Kaboul would go a long way to fixing that, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Although we hate all the paper talk we love it. The close season would be miserable if not for us being linked with about three teams worth of players. What about this international Algerian left back? Shorey must be a decent player but his team got stuffed fairly regularly last season, so he must take part of the blame. But then, Hermie has played big parts in many relegated teams, so who knows. I'm with a bunch of you lot above, I'll believe it when I see it but will secretly wish for a ball playing maestro like D'Alessandro. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Lets just get the signings wrapped up before we all fall asleep from repetative stories.

Shorey definitely leaving this week according to Coppell, but Villa are in for him and Kaboul as well, both would come to us I feel, but we have to match what the others are asking, if Spurs seriously want to re-coup all the 7m they paid for Kaboul, he won't be wearing blue next season that's for sure!

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
