Win Mad For It - Footies Greatest Rivalries

Win a copy of Mad for It: From Blackpool to Barcelona Football`s Greatest Rivalries

What`s the ultimate football derby? Could it be Liverpool v Manchester United, Southampton v Portsmouth, Newcastle v Sunderland, Rangers v Celtic, Arsenal v Spurs, Wrexham v Chester City, West Bromwich Albion v Wolverhampton Wanderers, Preston North End v Blackpool, or Millwall v West Ham?

In the new book Mad for It Andy Mitten talks to managers, players, backroom staff, local journalists and to a host of passionate fans to illuminate the conflicts, tensions, histories and culture behind these fascinating games. From the biggest global clashes and little known derbies in Cairo or Calcutta which attract twice as many fans as any Old Firm clash, to the coldest derby in the world, and the friendliest - Mad for It journeys across the UK and to the far-flung regions of planet football to discover the classic derby matches.

Features 28 games including: Argentina v Brazil, Cliftonville v Linfield, Barcelona v Real Madrid, Roma v Lazio, Elgin City v East Stirlingshire, Boca Juniors v River Plate Iran v Iraq, Mohun Bagan v East Bengal and many more…

Matt.. spot on it should indeed be the other way round ....Never gone to a foreign derby, but seen Exeter/Torquay.. Spurs/Arsenal... City/United.... Wednesday/United.... Norwich/Ipswich... City/Rovers and a few others in my time but the one for me is Pompey/Scum... it's pure hated going back 100 odd years.. In Liverpool & Manchester people have family members who are blues.. It just would not happen in Pompey.. It's personal.. but I speak as a Pompey fan so I'm completly biased.. but name me another club that has has 7 books published .. dedicated 100% to the subject...

Our matches with scum have been a quality game with quick pace but then again off the pitch is bad as usually loads of people get arrested. But like chix ive been to some rival games wot hasnt been mentioned they are bad but not as bad as us !

I have done Charlton/Palace ... Weymouth/Yeovil... bet that's not in the book!! Nothing like a derby game though to stir the blood.

To be honest the only derby games I want are in the cup. I'll quite happily have the next 25 years with the scummers at least one league beneath, three or four leagues would be better.

I guess its a matter of geography for us its scum but I don't see Man U & Liverpool as a derby rivals yes, but derby never, they have there own city derby's. So our prem derby this year is Chelsea & Fulham, Not a derby thou.
