SWP happy at Chelski/Nugent and Thuram on Diarra

Shaun Wright-Phillips has told the Chelsea Site that he is happy at Chelski and is not looking to move, which pretty much ends our hopes of signing him - which seemed pretty slim anyway: 'It's nice for the boss to say I am important part of the squad and I am not really a person to quit on anything either.

'I can fight for my place as long as I am here and will continue to do so.'

It is thought that Wright-Phillips has impressed new Chelski boss Phil Scolari this summer during pre-season, with him praising the England man last weekend.

So it appears that he is happy warm the bench at Chelski much like his teammate Wayne Bridge, in which case we are probably better off without him as we would only want players coming to Pompey that want to play - if he is happy to carry on with Chelski like he has done so over the past couple of years so be it...

Although, in all fairness to Wright-Phillips maybe, just maybe the arrival of Scolari at Chelski could finally kick start his career at Stamford Bridge?

Ipswich have been heavily linked with a renewed bid for Dave Nugent, with their manager Jim Magilton recently adding fuel to this fire with his words that he would like to rekindle their interest.

However the club have denied that any approach has been made to Pompey yet despite the speculation... The key word is 'yet' - they did not say that they would not be making an approach...

All we can do with this one is sit and wait, then see what happens! It seems a non-starter on so many levels, but it is a move that you think Pompey would be pressing to see happen?

And finally French legend Lilian Thuram has tipped Lassana Diarra for big things.

I am not quite sure if he meant that Diarra could go onto captain France as he once did, but I think he was? Either way this is what he said: 'I believe a lot in Lassana Diarra. He is someone who can bring something else.

'He is a midfielder, and that role requires character. He can help other players around him.'

Quite a glowing recommendation from a man that was one of the worlds finest, who won a record number 142 French caps.

Thuram retired from the game on Friday after being diagnosed with a heart condition, although he was 36 so he had a very good innings, and without wanting to be harsh was maybe an innings that should have ended sooner than it did?

So, what do we think guys? Thought on all the above please...

still think if wright -phillips is not in the chelsea team for the first couple of games i still think we might make a deadline day swoop as not many other names are mentioned. who knows with nugent i have give up either seeing him sold or in a pompey shirt

Well SWP could still become available in Januray & Diarra's sell on price keeps moving up, when it's time for him to move on up. (not for a while of course).

SWP will be hard-pressed to get much playing time--maybe more than last season, but what does that amount to? Coming in as a sub in the 68th minute as supposed to the occasional 82nd minute appearance? Chelsea are embarassingly stacked with class central mdifielders and Scolari will be stupid not to use them in order to accomodate SWP. Let's see--Ballack or SWP? Essien or SWP? You get the idea. But hey, if he's content to sitting on the bench in the prime of his career, so be it. It's a nice paycheck, after all.

I can't see why any Championship side wouldn't want to bid for Nugent but have any got the money to tempt Portsmouth? I would like to see him have another season here anyway, he's almost as good as me.

It's hard to knock the fellar, but everytime he looks like getting back to any decent form, he goes and has a couple of stinkers in a row and we dont see him for a few weeks. There was a spell last year, with no Lamps around where he was playing behind Anelka and he got a few goals in succession. Centrally he'll give you more than down the wings. If we do seal the Robinho deal, I reckon SWP is yours. Wish al the best wherever he ends up at.

If we can get him - great. defoe was happy to sit on the bench at spurs for a while before he came to us. He will come... at some point...

SWP, smokescreen, saying he's happy to please the fans etc, I never wanted this move (when it happens!) I'm sure he will sign for us, maybe not till after the away game against them tho.

Thatís good Shaun that you say you wonít quit, shows your not a quitter, but you have got to be realistic Chelsea just want you when they have injuries, they are using you, they have the likes of Deco, Malouda, Joe Cole, Kalou! Iím sorry but I canít see you getting regular football, you would best be suited coming to Manchester City because we need a great right winger with Shaunís quality and the fans including me want you back because even though youíre not with us, you are more important to Manchester City than Chelsea!

Shaun does the same thing every pre-season. A couple of alright performances which earn him a place in a game or two at the start of the season. But he'll show his inability to make good decisions and will be dropped to the bench again. Bridge, on the other hand, played something like 25 games last year and, with Scolari wanting attacking full backs, Bridge has a chance to fight for his place.

On another subject I have noticed the Kaboul rumours have gone a bit quiet I've read he may be happy to stay at spurs and fight for his place. Perhaps a classic redknapp deadline day deal will do the trick!

SWP can't see him starting much for Chelsea, maybe pre season has gave him false hope. Nugent loan somewhere would be better than selling if we had to, Diarra this could well be a special season for him let's hope so.

If SWP moves anywhere it will mean taking a big pay cut, as no one else will match what Chelsea pay. I can't see him getting a regular starting spot so it looks like he's happy to sit and take the cash.

The Russian boy Diniyar Bilyaletdinov looks like a real star. Balletic foot skills, creative passer and he scores goals. I also read he was a defensively minded player. His free kicks might help keep the ball out of the "nose bleeds" of row z. I suspect the fee would be substantial although. Oddly, Bily himself reckons he wouldn't cost much. In this instance "not much" should probably considered relative to the massive money floating around in the Russian game. There are loads of new "robber barons" emerging in the "capitalistic" Russia.

What is it with our chase for right wingers? Utaka and Little are already in the squad and SWP and Pennant are single dimensional players with no real flexibity and honestly neither of them can cross the ball for toffee so who cares how fast they can run down the line! The Russian boy is a leftie and a quality crosser.

I have said some harsh words about Thuram's overextended international career but wish him all the best in retirement after the shock discovery of a heart defect.

Let's get Shorey not Babayaro. Kaboul looks like a bit dodgy but he would have good advice from Sol and Adams so maybe they can make him a player. As long as the fee is reasonable. Add the Russian kid and we should be all set for a great season!

If Nugent goes to the Championship he will only go on loan as scum says they cannot afford him.

If we really need money to sign our 3 big names, then hopefully Nugent will go. But if we don't need the money, then I think he should stay. Can't see the point of loaning him to a Championship side, he needs to gain Premier league experience.

Steve Coppell has said that he thinks Shorey will be a premier player next week as a firm bid has been made, but the bid was to low so who was it? could it be us or Villa or possibly West Ham, anyone know?

i reckon it could be villa tbh mate, i would like it to be us but im not sure it will...
like you tho EddieO, welcome by the way, i would much rather have shorey than babayaro - but i think thats what we might have to 'settle' for?

Coppell gave Harry a serve for making unfounded statements about Shorey moving to Pompey and also had a go at Harry for supposedly talking to Shorey without permission. Since then Copelland Villa have made statements about Villas interest. As Coppell now says interest is by an unnamed club I would think it is not Villa and is either us or another club altogether.

I have not been concerned if we get another right side attacking midfielder or not as I would give Utaka and Little a chance until January at least. We need to strengthen the left side far more and we need someone strong and quick to replace or back up Sol. He has looked very mediocre so far this pre season.

Reports now say that Spurs are asking for 7 million for Kaboul which is too much for a player who must be considered a flop in his first season (whatever his 'Harry' potential) have we been linked with any other centre half's of decent quality? With Primus back and Hermy able to play there we could just about get away with it but who would then play at left back? Which brings us back to Shorey. I'm also fine about Little and Utaka vying for the right wing/midfield berth and I agree with FrAu that it's the left side which is extremely dodgy. none of the centre midfielders likes playing there and it shows. I am starting to worry slightly about the time it is taking to sign our 'three' quality players. The club will have to go some to pull off 'SWP Kaboul and Shorey' now. Earn your money, Storrie.
