SWP happy at Chelski/Nugent and Thuram on Diarra

SWP happy at Chelski/Nugent and Thuram on Diarra

Shaun Wright-Phillips has told the Chelsea Site that he is happy at Chelski and is not looking to move, which pretty much ends our hopes of signing him - which seemed pretty slim anyway: 'It's nice for the boss to say I am important part of the squad and I am not really a person to quit on anything either.

'I can fight for my place as long as I am here and will continue to do so.'

It is thought that Wright-Phillips has impressed new Chelski boss Phil Scolari this summer during pre-season, with him praising the England man last weekend.

So it appears that he is happy warm the bench at Chelski much like his teammate Wayne Bridge, in which case we are probably better off without him as we would only want players coming to Pompey that want to play - if he is happy to carry on with Chelski like he has done so over the past couple of years so be it...

Although, in all fairness to Wright-Phillips maybe, just maybe the arrival of Scolari at Chelski could finally kick start his career at Stamford Bridge?

==========

Ipswich have been heavily linked with a renewed bid for Dave Nugent, with their manager Jim Magilton recently adding fuel to this fire with his words that he would like to rekindle their interest.

However the club have denied that any approach has been made to Pompey yet despite the speculation... The key word is 'yet' - they did not say that they would not be making an approach...

All we can do with this one is sit and wait, then see what happens! It seems a non-starter on so many levels, but it is a move that you think Pompey would be pressing to see happen?

==========

And finally French legend Lilian Thuram has tipped Lassana Diarra for big things.

I am not quite sure if he meant that Diarra could go onto captain France as he once did, but I think he was? Either way this is what he said: 'I believe a lot in Lassana Diarra. He is someone who can bring something else.

'He is a midfielder, and that role requires character. He can help other players around him.'

Quite a glowing recommendation from a man that was one of the worlds finest, who won a record number 142 French caps.

Thuram retired from the game on Friday after being diagnosed with a heart condition, although he was 36 so he had a very good innings, and without wanting to be harsh was maybe an innings that should have ended sooner than it did?

So, what do we think guys? Thought on all the above please...

Well SWP could still become available in Januray & Diarra's sell on price keeps moving up, when it's time for him to move on up. (not for a while of course).

SWP will be hard-pressed to get much playing time--maybe more than last season, but what does that amount to? Coming in as a sub in the 68th minute as supposed to the occasional 82nd minute appearance? Chelsea are embarassingly stacked with class central mdifielders and Scolari will be stupid not to use them in order to accomodate SWP. Let's see--Ballack or SWP? Essien or SWP? You get the idea. But hey, if he's content to sitting on the bench in the prime of his career, so be it. It's a nice paycheck, after all.

I can't see why any Championship side wouldn't want to bid for Nugent but have any got the money to tempt Portsmouth? I would like to see him have another season here anyway, he's almost as good as me.

It's hard to knock the fellar, but everytime he looks like getting back to any decent form, he goes and has a couple of stinkers in a row and we dont see him for a few weeks. There was a spell last year, with no Lamps around where he was playing behind Anelka and he got a few goals in succession. Centrally he'll give you more than down the wings. If we do seal the Robinho deal, I reckon SWP is yours. Wish al the best wherever he ends up at.

If we can get him - great. defoe was happy to sit on the bench at spurs for a while before he came to us. He will come... at some point...

SWP, smokescreen, saying he's happy to please the fans etc, I never wanted this move (when it happens!) I'm sure he will sign for us, maybe not till after the away game against them tho.

That’s good Shaun that you say you won’t quit, shows your not a quitter, but you have got to be realistic Chelsea just want you when they have injuries, they are using you, they have the likes of Deco, Malouda, Joe Cole, Kalou! I’m sorry but I can’t see you getting regular football, you would best be suited coming to Manchester City because we need a great right winger with Shaun’s quality and the fans including me want you back because even though you’re not with us, you are more important to Manchester City than Chelsea!

Shaun does the same thing every pre-season. A couple of alright performances which earn him a place in a game or two at the start of the season. But he'll show his inability to make good decisions and will be dropped to the bench again. Bridge, on the other hand, played something like 25 games last year and, with Scolari wanting attacking full backs, Bridge has a chance to fight for his place.

On another subject I have noticed the Kaboul rumours have gone a bit quiet I've read he may be happy to stay at spurs and fight for his place. Perhaps a classic redknapp deadline day deal will do the trick!

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.
