Nugent to be the next 'sacrifice'

'Reports' of an Ipswich interest in Dave Nugent continue to grow - so if true then the striker could be set to become the latest 'sacrifice' as we seek to raise funds...

The suggestion is that Ipswich have put together a 5m package for Nugent, which would see them pay 3.5m upfront with a further 1.5m paid if they win promotion and he will hold talks with, and undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.

'If' we do sell him, I think this will be a bad move as although we have signed Peter Crouch and have Ben Sahar on loan until January we are suddenly going completely the opposite direction to the direction we were said to be going... instead of building on the squad, adding 'quality' we are dismantling it leaving us shorter of numbers instead of increasing them!

All of this is of course, if even true, dependant on him being willing to drop down a league again - something that so far he has been unwilling to do. But surely there are only so many times he could see the club willing to do business on him before he says 'sod you lot I am going!'

Quite what is going on with Pompey at the moment is anybodies guess, but it seems to be that the money raised from the selling of Sulley Muntari is not being reinvested in the side - although I hope this is still the case as it is a bad move otherwise - so would the 3.5m be given back to Harry Redknapp here? Even if it was it would not buy a great deal would it?

I am still not 'panicking' but I must confess my frustrations about this summer, and how things have gone on the whole are growing...

I wouldnt mind us selling if we were buying...but its the same old rumours going round, kaboul, shorey etc, and seems like nothing is actually happening. Although how much do we really know about the clubs transfer dealings? Only what they tell us! so i remain hopeful :-s

I can't see Nugget wanting to go seeing as he turned them down in January. I don't see them coming back for him either after the amount he mucked them about. Probably just a re-hash of an old story.

I hope Harry's response was left or right? Meaning whihc arm would you like me to bite off first. If we can get 5m for DN as papers suggest then happy days! Time to cut our losses and run. This news has really made my day - unlike the ridiucalous idea to force fanse to buy tickets for 2 home matches at a time but thats a different story and one I'm hoping Rug will strat a new thread on.

Ipswich are persistant & may all depend on whether Nugget wants to go?

Nuggent doesnt want to go. He is under contract with the club, and if he doesnt want to go, he won't go! (the oposite to the man u thing, where ronaldo WANTS(or wanted...I have no idea whazt his situation is...) to go, but the club won't let him. a contract works both ways...). Personally, I don't want him to go though

personally i still think Nugent has a future at the club even if just at cup game level to rest the other strikers, i guess one question would be if we were to sell him for the reported 3.5m (plus add ons) could we get anyone better for that sort of money to replace him ?

I really really cannot see Nugent even turning up to see them....we all know what he's like for that kind of caper (wound up Keano, made us wait for ages, and has refused to meet or get back to other clubs). We're stuck with him until his contract's up - hopefully he'll prove his worth in that time.

In Janurary Ipswich asked nuge to come for a medical, but he wouldnt turn up! This upset their manager and I seem to remember him saying he had a bad attitude, so I cant see them buying him.

I wouldn't go either if I had a contract and was happy to fulfill it, but the other party was hoping to cut out early without good cause. The clubs want it both ways. When a player wants to leave but they're under contract we have all these complaints about inappropriate approaches ( Robbie Keane) and players with "bad attitude" (Gareth Barry) But if the club wants to cut and run, the players are just supposed to smile and bend over. I thought we treated Benjani badly until the Nugent saga came along.

Not sure what is going on! Will he won't he? Has a good scoring record AGAINST Ipswich. I would prefer a loan deal to get him scoring again.

Do we need to sell him? Im firmly in the loan camp. Even though I really can't make my mind up about him.

I hope he stays and gets a chance to prove himself at Pompey. But mixed thoughts on whether he will go or not - on the one hand Arry said a short while ago he wanted all his strikers for strength in depth, and Nuge keeps turning down moves. On the other hand, there is the uncertainty of money to spend on players, the fact that there has been talk of Nuge leaving ever since he came here, and just a sneaky feeling I have that this time he will go. Hope not.

He's scored a lot of goals in the past so he can't be all that bad. On the other hand he does tend to make Mido look nippy...

I think if we were going to loan him out, it should be to a Premier league team, cos its in the premier league that we are going to need him. We know he can score goals in the champions league, he needs to get used to the premier league.

i just think we should keep him - end of... if we sell we can hardly buy much with the money, that is if we are even allowed to spend it. we cannot afford to lose anymore players! this time next year we will prboably be without kanu and also without sahar, that will leave us with only crouchy and defoe - i say keep him, give him more of a chance here and there, let him score some goals and be a part of a glorious future... altho things dont always work that way do they!

It seems a bit silly as Nugent has stuck to his guns before and as we have gone this far we may as well give him a bit more time. But on the other hand if a potential 5 million is on offer it may be a chance of recoupng most of the money for him. It really depends on how much Harry wants to get rid of him and/or if he really thinks he won't make the grade. This might also be Sasha wanting to again reduce the wages bill and also put some more money back in his account.
