'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey Chimes 31-07-08

The Daily Mail says that for some reason we are on the lookout for a new keeper, with Espanyol's £5m rated Carlos Kameni being lined up - Villa are also 'said' to be interested... Quite why we would be looking for a keeper is anybodies guess when we clearly need other areas looking at more, so nothing doing at all here methinks!

It had been confirmed by Roy Keane yesterday that Younes Kaboul would not be going to Sunderland, with the players agent again saying that Pompey was the move he wanted and a variety of papers say this will happen - until it does I will believe nothing...

Another snippet from The Daily Mail says that Blackburn target Jermaine Pennant could also become subject of the now famous 'late approach from Pompey'. With a move for Shaun Wright-Phillips now looking unlikely a fee of around the £5m mark could claim the Liverpool wingers signature...

'Reports' in the East Anglian Daily Times are saying that Ipswich are again looking at Dave Nugent, and with the number of strikers we have on our books we would be willing to cash in - if he would agree to a wage cut and a drop back down the Divisions... Rumours of a move away from Pompey for the striker have been quiet for a while so I guess it's about time they resurfaced!

And last, but by no means least the most 'ridiculous' claim of the day comes from The Mirror, with it reported that CSKA Moscow are lining up Harry Redknapp as their next manager... I think we can safely say that if he would not give up his Sandbanks homes or move away from his family for the Barcodes earlier in the year he will most definitely not be giving this up to go to Russia!

So there we have it guys, a pretty eventful day with some 'interesting' news - but what do we think of it? As always thoughts below...

Can't stand Jermaine Pennant he's always been rubbish. One minute we're looking at buying the England team next we're looking at second raters like Jermaine Pennant! Is Rory Allen still available?

I am suprised that now Bentley has signed for Spuds that we are not getting linked to Lennon. Surely he could be a cheaper alternative to SWP?

Harry to Russia, I have more chance of becoming President of England! lol Vote sneakay!

President Sneakay, "HR" is a bit unstable at the moment, you never know.

yep Et_tu_Pompeii im with you on that one, to say i think pennant is 'rubbish' would be an understatement tho :-)
tbh lennon needs some work done, but you dont lose the potential that he had overnight, so i like that call sneakay and do not think he would break the bank... much, much better option than pennant, and in all honesty not much between him and SWP as both need work, yet lennon would be a damn site cheaper! you would think...

I reckon HR could turn Pennant into a surprise package. I've never had anything against him as a player though. A bit of a naughty boy in the past but perhaps the pressure of being a trainee with a record transfer got to him.

There is also the reported move we are making for Bilyaetdinov, but with the way that the Russian clubs pay their players I would imagine he would have to take a pay cut to join us!

I'm still quietly confident on gettin SWP... I'm not convinced on pennant, and lennon always seemed incapable of passing, crossing, or anything that didnt involve riblling down the wing in the last 20 minutes of a game.

Bilyaetdinov would be quality, on you tube he looks quick and skilful and can play down the wings or through the middle. Can sachas' russian contacts do the deal?

I still think we may get SWP but I also think HR could get the best out of Pennant. Not sure about Lennon now.

I would expect Kaboul to be are next signing, not to excited about pennant.

I'm in the 'we will get SWP' camp - it might take a little while though. I think Kaboul is on his way. No chance of Arry to Moscow. As for another keeper - is Ashdown leaving?

Bilyaetdinov - or however you spell it -reckons he wont cost that much...

might not cost the dosh for the fee Rug but apparently they are paid a fortune in Russia and the clubs don't want to lose them either.. look at the three Spurs and Arsenal are trying to sign, one of them since the end of the euros and still no further forward... Great if we could get him but maybe a bridge to far...

I saw him on utube too No 9 just as you said looked great, but I guess they could do this to most by picking out the best clips, then again he's still young would like to see him here, but as Chix said it could be his wages that may be a problem
