Redknapp playing mind games?

Redknapp playing mind games?

Harry Redknapp claims that he does not know if the money from the Sulley Muntari deal will be given back to him to reinvest in further signings - surely this is mind games from Redknapp?

I find it hard to believe that we would have sold Muntari had we not had plans lined up for others, or done so on the understanding that the money generated would be allowed to be re-used to sign the further 3 players that Redknapp feels he requires - a left back, central defender and right winger.

We do have a new training ground to pay for as well, but I would hope that players are not being sold to pay for this, as what good would a brand spanking new facility do us if we are not able to sustain our league placing, ideally improve upon it, therefore being the kind of club that deserves such facilities...

As I have said, maybe the selling of Muntari will come back to haunt us, but so long as this money in reinvested into buying the quality players that we want I feel myself that this was the right thing to do - if it is not given back to buy players then we would have made a mistake in selling!

This time of year managers put their poker faces on - its all cloak and dagger stuff - Redknapp seems to have the same one all the time before pulling something out of the fire, sadly his poker face is not very good anymore as he is not very good at bluffing... at least I hope not as I would be horrified if despite all the talk, we did not walk the walk and reinvest that money into making us even stronger...

It's all cat & mouse stuff. I don't see the need for panic. Yes we all want to bring top players but if Sasha doesn't want to, Harry can't can't we can. I think it's a mixture of a smokescreeen & tabloid daft headlines.
29/07/2008 15:57:00
Smoke and mirrors, Roy, smoke and mirrors. Having said that, I am a little worried that we've heard nothing positive about YK, NS and SWP in quite a while. I do trust Hal and hope that what he pulls out of the bag is 'Thierry Henryish' rather than 'Robbie Fowlerish'.

Call me naive, but what has Harry got to gain by saying he hasn't got any money? Kaboul will think Oh well then, I best go to Aston Villa and SWP has apparently already gone. How can he sell one of his best players to raise money for new signings and then say he does not know if the powers that be will actually let him use that money afterall. AND THEN say what smashing people the powers that be are? Doh - have I missed something? Its all nuts! If he's trying to send out the message that we don't have any money to possible Vendors, then he is also sending out the message to our purchasers that we are desperate for money and there are bargains to be had. I just hope after all these games (if thats what they are) that we still have a sustainable team to take us into the next season which will be the most arduous we have ever faced. But what do I know..... what does anybody know?

Rednapp playing mindgames ? - Ya think !!

Frankly, I'd be happier to learn we sold Muntari because we need the money to help balance the books, than I would to think we sold him to finance players who may not come and may well not be getting much service with a big hole in the midfield. WRT his comments on Peter, well what else can he say? If the money isn't there, it isn't Peter's fault and - if anything - it's Harry making Peter's job more difficult, not the other way around. Peter always stays tight-lipped on specifics. Harry seems to have learned his poker face from Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth. He could learn a few lessons from Barry Greenstein in how to conduct oneself.

It doesn't add up if the money is there. We had enough to buy Crouch - reportedly £11m. Then they said there wasn't any more in the pot. Then we sold Sulley - reportedly £12m - so surely there's money now? I think there's a lot of things said as negotiation tactics these days (I'm still hoping SWP not leaving Chelski is part of it) and this must be too. But I do take Gandor's point - I can't see how it works either.

tracy c, if we follow your point, 11 mill out for crouch, 12mill in for sulley, so plus 1millthen - the 3.6 mill to udinese, we are 2.6 mill down on the whole thing. H will get into trouble for saying this so i'm afraid this aint mind games this is bleating. We shouldnt have sold Sulley and even more so if we hadnt confirmed the required replacements.

I think its Harrys way of saying "for gods sake pay what they are asking!"
