Babayaro to sign a 1-year deal?

Babayaro to sign a 1-year deal?

Reports in today's Mirror claim that the left back situation Harry Redknapp is looking to strengthen will be strengthened by the signing of trialist Celestine Babayaro...

He had been on trial with us earlier in pre-season, but this was cut short when he was hospitalised with malaria. Now recovered from this he took part in our Nigerian tour over the weekend and the suggestion is that he will now sign a 1-year contract.

'If' this happens then I would be surprised if we saw the arrival of Nicky Shorey, as had been heavily speculated over the summer.

Babayaro is a decent footballer, and an experienced one at that, but I am not sure if I am convinced by him to be honest. I keep asking myself the questions, is he really an improvement - other than increasing the numbers - and why did LA Galaxy release him after only 45 minutes of football?

That said how often to we get the best out of players that are 'written off'...

Could be a shrewd signing, but I haven't seen him play for years to be honest so I'm not sure. 'Arry wouldn't sign him up if he was shocking, especially having had so much time to see him and make a decision.

Goal.com say that in his 45 mins for Galaxy he gave away a penalty and got a yellow card. (http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=626668) I'm not convinced hes the sort of player we need to move forward. Anyone heard anymore about Kaboul?

A Harry gamble but it would be shame not to get Shorey!

Blimey, this guy must have retired before I did in 95! Should be looking at the young lad Mattock from Leicester as an investment and longer term. Not convinced arry.

He is not 30 yet and has an Olympic Gold medal so worth a shot as a squad player - don't rule out Shorey.

Im am really hoping we dont get Babayaro.. I cant wait for this season to start, the amount of speculation this year is getting over excessive. 'Peter Storrie get out ya cheque book and buy bleedin Shorey' Kaboul sounds like a right wan#er.. im hoping he signs for Villa and then Roy Keane comes on the ground to snap his froggy legs off

hope he comes to us a bit injury prone but he has got through pre season oky so far so why not give him a crack at it ? hermann hreidersson is not gunna be able to play every game is he ? But dont mind shorey or babayoro to good players who will do a job when called up on !!!!

He would make a decent squad payer, but I would prefer Shorey in all honesty.

I agree, frattonaussie, I'll be amazed if any of them come. BUT there are many other players and so long as he pulls something out of the hat. Despite all the hype, I think shaun (WP not The Sheep) is a fantastic footballer and with a D'Alessandro type player (or The Man himself) we will be something special next seas.
