The chances of Pompey signing Shaun Wright-Phillips and Younes Kaboul look to have taken downturns...
Phil Scolari said in an press conference over the weekend that Wright-Phillips was happy at Chelski and he was not looking to leave: 'I spoken to Shaun yesterday at training and he is happy at Chelsea.
'Shaun has done a good job up to now.
'The other lads love him and so do my team.'
The rumours have linked him heavily with Pompey, but not once in all honesty has Wright-Phillips openly himself said that he was looking to move on, so maybe he will not after all?
Maybe the change in management will rejuvenate his Chelski career, although my own thinking is that he will still do well to improve on his low percentage rate of premier league starts to those games played during his Chelski career to date, which I believe stands at something like less than 40%...
The most surprising name that we could now miss out on after all though could be Kaboul, who was this weekend being claimed as our latest signing by Harry Redknapp - or at least being quoted as - but now he has told The News that he believes we are at the back of the queue to sign him! Saying: 'I still want to bring in Kaboul but he has spoken with Sunderland.
'I know Aston Villa also want him.
'I went to see him last year before he joined Spurs, and drank Moroccan tea with his parents.
'But Roy Keane has met with him now, too.
'I'd say we are third now behind the other two teams.'
The summer transfer season really is becoming the silly season now, and I do not know what to believe anymore! In many ways the sooner it is done with the better, but we must sign more players before it closes - and quality players!
Whilst I am not panicking yet, I am starting to have slight doubts about us signing these 3 'top class' footballers that Peter Storrie promised us. Ben Sahar, Glen Little and Peter Crouch are all good signings, but two thirds of these players arriving would not fall into the real 'top class' signings we had been promised would they.
Surely we have things lined up as although he has not gone yet we would not be letting Sulley Muntari go without options lined up would we, no matter how good the deal was for the club. I still believe that this is the right thing to do, but only if this money is reinvested into buying new players, and the 'top class' signings we have been expecting, which I do not think is asking too much if this is what we are promised by senior figures at the club...
All this said at the end of the day Redknapp is a cunning man so if we judge on previous performance, his words could mean the signing of the Spurs defender could be just around the corner, whilst Scolari is no rookie is he so he could be playing cat and mouse with Pompey over Wright-Phillips.
All will be revealed soon... I guess!
