Wright-Phillips and Kaboul off the menu?

The chances of Pompey signing Shaun Wright-Phillips and Younes Kaboul look to have taken downturns...

Phil Scolari said in an press conference over the weekend that Wright-Phillips was happy at Chelski and he was not looking to leave: 'I spoken to Shaun yesterday at training and he is happy at Chelsea.

'Shaun has done a good job up to now.

'The other lads love him and so do my team.'

The rumours have linked him heavily with Pompey, but not once in all honesty has Wright-Phillips openly himself said that he was looking to move on, so maybe he will not after all?

Maybe the change in management will rejuvenate his Chelski career, although my own thinking is that he will still do well to improve on his low percentage rate of premier league starts to those games played during his Chelski career to date, which I believe stands at something like less than 40%...

The most surprising name that we could now miss out on after all though could be Kaboul, who was this weekend being claimed as our latest signing by Harry Redknapp - or at least being quoted as - but now he has told The News that he believes we are at the back of the queue to sign him! Saying: 'I still want to bring in Kaboul but he has spoken with Sunderland.

'I know Aston Villa also want him.

'I went to see him last year before he joined Spurs, and drank Moroccan tea with his parents.

'But Roy Keane has met with him now, too.

'I'd say we are third now behind the other two teams.'

The summer transfer season really is becoming the silly season now, and I do not know what to believe anymore! In many ways the sooner it is done with the better, but we must sign more players before it closes - and quality players!

Whilst I am not panicking yet, I am starting to have slight doubts about us signing these 3 'top class' footballers that Peter Storrie promised us. Ben Sahar, Glen Little and Peter Crouch are all good signings, but two thirds of these players arriving would not fall into the real 'top class' signings we had been promised would they.

Surely we have things lined up as although he has not gone yet we would not be letting Sulley Muntari go without options lined up would we, no matter how good the deal was for the club. I still believe that this is the right thing to do, but only if this money is reinvested into buying new players, and the 'top class' signings we have been expecting, which I do not think is asking too much if this is what we are promised by senior figures at the club...

All this said at the end of the day Redknapp is a cunning man so if we judge on previous performance, his words could mean the signing of the Spurs defender could be just around the corner, whilst Scolari is no rookie is he so he could be playing cat and mouse with Pompey over Wright-Phillips.

All will be revealed soon... I guess!

I hope SWP doesn't leave, but I'm not sure if the club will keep him.
Fan of Blues
as i say scolari is no rookie so he will say the right things - for his own career i still think SWP needs to leave chelski?
what is the general opinion on SWP mate - do most think he will leave, and do they want this?
pompeyrug
If I was a betting man I would say both are coming!!!
steaming
All quiet on the Shorey front. Copell has said the price goes up the longer we leave it. It would be brill to get SWP, shame we didn't tie this up earlier in the month.
storagematt
Still not convinced by Kaboul but what are the alternatives. Ben Haim looks to be off elsewhere? Would be a shame not to get SWP as we did look last night like we couldn't get a decent ball into Crouch so that needs to be sorted.
bluedr
i think i would rather have kept muntari and got rid of utaka then got swp to replace utaka tbh cause now surely were shot of really presence in the middle and no i don't like diop lol but if SWP comes in then why still have utaka i don't see what part he will play with glen little as well but i definetly think we will still get kaboul cause of the "i want pompey move stories" and we really do need a left bck with pamarot out 4 a bit, and altho i thing heridersons arwsome hes not a natural left bck is he.
pompeym@
pompeyrug, most people on VC want him to leave. Personally, I'm selfish and I want us to keep him because I know what a great player he really is, but I think it would be better for him if leaves and come to you.
Fan of Blues
bad news but i dont believe any more stuff what redknapp and peter storrie says because they deny it then few days later it happens but i do reckon kaboul will come .
stfc ballboy
Kaboul will decide in 48 hrs according to sky news between Sunderland, Villa & us personally I think Sunderland will lose out, & think we have a good chance of getting him. As for Wright Phillips not so sure after recent events, but you never know, I also think Shorey will come up again as Harry has said he want's a left sided player
pompeyyong
Utaka will show us what he's capable of this season. As for Kaboul thats just a typical bit of Harry's mind games. if SWP is happy to warm the bench at Chelsea then he's not the type of player we need anyway. I'd rather a player who whinges when he's not in the side than one that doesn't care as long as he gets paid.

I really think that Utaka will be a better player this year. His main faults in my opinion were his work rate, and intelligence, however on his day, with his pace and ability one on one, he is a strong player. Remember his goal against Newcastle away last year - couple of defensive shockers but still did wat was needed and finished. The reason I am going on about him is I would like him to stay, and feel he has a lot to potentially offer in his second season. I would love a left winger, strong creative midfielder (erm, that was Muntari that left lol), and a CB - looks like the lusio from benfica rumour is resurfacing its head too.
dave.jolley81
utaka is not a defender so he'll make mistakes there, but bhe's great attacking. he started well last season before he found out just how intense the english game is. he'll be better prepared this season.
Steve C
I think I am getting a bit fed up of trying to second guess what is going on! I am just going to wait and see and hope that all thepeople at Pompey know what they are doing.
sneakay
i still don't believe the whole ideology of second season, break em in better player rubish. I mean they have a 10 week holiday and something clicks and they come back a better player. surely they should realise that half way through their first season and try harder then, not wait for a new season
harrissman
Most of the fee for Muntari and the balance of the 20 million will vanish. Any more signings will be cheap or free.
frattonaussie
Shorey too, has just been crossed off the 'menu' - Villa want him. Oh great!
Et_tu_Pompeii
If they don't want to come to us then stuff em. I'd rather have Ben Haim in any event and Sid Govou is an adequate replacement for SWP. If we could just find a left footed midfield magician to sew things together out there I'd be happy.
Toronto4Pompey
It's not a case of something clicking but more to do with knowing what you will face every week. According to many players the english game is far more intense than any other countries. I think thats why many players start well then fade. trouble is as soon as they fade the press and fans jump on their backs and make it harder for them. We know better than most what difference a bit of support can make to a player. Just ask Benjani.
