Muntari's thoughts on leaving for Inter

Muntari's thoughts on leaving for Inter

Most feel that Sulley Muntari is leaving Pompey because the club want him sold to raise funds - whilst there can be little doubt the club view this as a good move - or he would not be sold - as the money we will get is not bad, I think we have to be fair and say that it is not just a case of us pushing to make this deal happen, as it does appear that Inter is not a move he is turning down... and understandably so!

Muntari has told The News that it is hard to leave Pompey, but he could not refuse the lure of Inter, a big club, which he missed out on by not being able to join Manyoo a few years back after reportedly not being granted a work permit or agreeing terms - dependant on where you read it: 'Harry has developed my game and has become like a father to me, but when a club like Inter come calling you have to listen.

'I love him and I love the Portsmouth fans but I missed an opportunity once to join a big club a few years ago and I don't want to miss it again.'

So, as I say as much as it might be a good deal for us it is not simply a case of us being the only ones involved here, as he does want the move - who knows maybe he wanted this more than we wanted him to go?

No one knows what we will get, all sorts of 'reports' are being bounced about but after paying Udinese a slice of what we owe them as a sell on fee, not wanting to alarm anyone - although I am sure you have already thought of this - would this buy the reported main targets Shaun Wright-Phillips, Nicky Shorey and Younes Kaboul?

I am not convinced it will to be honest, the latter two yes with money left over but I think we would still have to sell to raise more for Wright-Phillips, who I feel could still yet arrive on a season loan capacity anyway...

Not forgetting, we could need to replace Muntari, which clearly we do as what we have is not like him, but I think what we do have is enough to compensate his loss - yep we have lost the power and muscle, some of the quality too but you have a squad of players that 'should' be good enough, so most in my thinking are good enough to fill the breach, although knowing Harry Redknapp he will probably pull something out of the bag, even if it does not happen until deadline day!

Can't blame the fella for wanting to go or the club for letting him. I say that he never reached his best at Pompey and for that reason he won't be 'sorely' missed but we will miss his muscle in the middle. Good luck Sulley from Udinese you leave us with a Cup Winners medal and from our point of view you leave us with the memory of scoring that pen at Old Trafford that put the whole city into raptures and sent us on to win the FA Cup..

I think the squad can just about cope physically with his departure but it will allow Harry to change the ethos of the team by playing a creative midfielder in his place, where before, there was no room. I believe Harry said recently that he needed one to dribble, create and scare the opposition. Gawd knows who, of course, but I'm still a huge fan of D'Allesandro and would love to see him back. Trouble is, they are like gold dust.

i still say Mendes is more effective in the middle with Diarra with Kranjcar and Utaka/SWP on the wings which means Sulley wouldnt even be a first choice starter. in that case the money is fantastic and will be used to strengthen other areas of the squad. Even if not Mendes with Diarra Harry seems to prefer Diop... Thanx for the memories Sulley, go on and probably get even better but if i had to sacrifice one of our £10m+ boys ahead of next season he would be the one.

Good point Southport - Mendes and Diarra play at their best when they are partners. Good luck Sulley and thanks for the memories.

only point is we lose the physicality, but id swap that for creativity to supply Crouch and Defoe anyday!

This could be tyhe time for Diop to show us what he can really do, he's never been at home on the right. Although I'd prefer Mendes to Diop in the middle.

Sadly D'Allesandro won't be coming back any time soon Et Tu. He's only very recently signed for a club called Internacional in Brazil.

sorry - you'll not get SWP as a loan! Sale or nothing! Even then we'll wait until we've played you before selling him!

With Doncaster and Plymouth yet to play Portsmouth took advantage to close the gap and extend it on the chasing pack. Newport & Leyton Orient look likely to be relegated.

Video - Pompey 2-1 Newport

With Stevenage drawing and Blackpool the only potential challenger winning we've got a six point cushion on Boro that's effectively seven given our superior goal difference.
