Talking Pompey with pfcadz

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...

pfcadz was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.

  • What are you expecting from Pompey in the coming season?
Firstly, I'm hoping for a top half finish and then to push on for 5th or 6th. I think top 4 is a bit optimistic for this season, but certainly something to aim for in the years to come.

  • Uefa cup - are you a fan of us being in this, or are you against it? Either way how well do you reckon we can do?
Absolutely! I think its great that we're in Europe as it gives that extra bit more excitement to what already should be another great season. For clubs like us who don't get into these competitions too often its a great chance to see Pompey playing some top European sides and see how we fair against them. It also helps to attract better players to the club - which will only make us stronger in the long run. In terms of how we will do, I'd be happy with us making the group stages. From there anything's possible. How far we get will really depend on who else we bring in this summer - but if we get the sort of quality we've been linked with then I think quarter or semi-finals are a realistic aim.

  • Which 3 players - that we could realistically sign - would you like to see arrive this summer?
It's a no brainer for me - SWP, Kaboul and Bridge (written pre the 'contract extension' with Chelski). SWP gives us skill and speed on the wing and should provide good service for Defoe and Crouch. Kaboul is a quality young CB who will benefit from learning from Sol and Sylvain and would make a great replacement. Granted, he didn't have the best of seasons at Spurs but I don't think there's too much doubt he's got the ability to become a quality player. Bridge would be an excellent replacement for HH, and I would be particularly pleased of we got him. I didn't ever realistically believe he would be coming but talk has certainly picked up on this of late and he would be a solid addition - even if he is an ex scummer!

  • If you had to select 1 player to get shot of - or maybe to rephrase or make this decision easier, 'sacrifice' - to make a signing who would it be and why?
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to go with Hughesy. He's been an excellent servant to the club but I can't see him pushing our current CM's out of the starting 11. The reason I'm going with him is that I feel the most likely people that would be 'sacrificed' would be either Davis or mendes and out of the three I'd rather hold on to these two.

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make this season?
I've been lucky enough to be a season ticket holder for a number of years. So I will be attending all home premier league games, all home Uefa cup games and domestic cup games. Hopefully, I will be able to make a few away league games and maybe one Uefa cup game away. Especially if it's a big team... or the final!

Thanks to pfcadz for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!

A good account Adz and as a new (ish) member to Vital Pompey you are making a great contribution to the debate in the forums. Not nuch I disagree with in your views apart from Hughesie .. I'd keep him. A good honest pro who is happy to come in when needed and do a job... My choice to go was Duffy.. Offers us absolutely nothing.

    Good straight up answers Adz.

Good answers Adz. Duffy does offer us something - a currect Welsh International!! I like Hughsie as he always does a job but he deserves to play regularly somewhere - top of Fizz league or bottom half Prem.

Nice to hear from new members. As with the others, I like Hughes. Especially when there are a few overpriced & overpaid prima donna still here.
