Talking Pompey with PFCGino
Vital Pompey has previously brought you the 'knowing me knowing you series' - which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email - now we have a little something extra this summer...
PFCGino was asked 5 quick questions, this is what they said.
What I expect from Pompey this season and what I want from Pompey this season are two completely different things. I want a decent cup run (UEFA and FA), as well as to be a dominant force in the Premiership and finish in the top six. However, we can't all have what we want, and I think realistically we won't win the FA Cup again. Listening to my head rather than my heart, I still think a top six finish in the Premiership is definitely achievable. The UEFA cup has got everyone excited, but I wouldn't expect Pompey to win it, but hopefully we can have a decent run and get at least to the group stages, just to show everyone that Pompey aren't a small club anymore. Also, I think it would reward those Pompey fans that have followed Portsmouth through thick and thin.
Yes, I am a definite fan of this. The UEFA Cup is one of the biggest competitions in club football, full of world-class sides like AC Milan this season. The only drawback is the extra games, and I think Harry has the right idea in increasing the squad to cope with them.
Financially it will be fantastic for Portsmouth, and as these days success in football is directly proportionate to the club's bank balance, that can't be a bad thing! As far as Portsmouth being in the UEFA Cup, I think that a decent run to the group stages, perhaps even qualifying from them would make me happy - there's no reason why we can't win it, but that'll be my heart talking again!
Ronaldinho, Villa and Arshavin. Sorry, I seem to have fallen asleep there, but now I'm awake, my three players that I would like to see at FP next season would be Nicky Shorey, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Pablo Aimar. All three are fantastic players, and in particular I think the SWP and Aimar would inject a bit of flair into the squad, especially in combination with Kranjcar. Shorey is a solid left-back, and he was rightly rewarded with an England call up and I think he will fit to our style of play - as well as keeping Hermann on his toes! Seriously though, we all know that the one person we can't wait to see at FP is Abigail Clancy.....
There are a lot of players that were regulars at FP but now rarely get a game in. In my opinion, Sean Davis would have to be the man to go. We have enough quality midfielders, and it looks like we'll get more, so I'm sorry Sean, I don't think you'll get to so much as sniff the Fratton Park turf next season. The good thing is that he's not a bad player, and would suit teams like Stoke, Hull, Fulham or Sunderland, and we could easily make a few bob from him too.
Honestly - not many. I am a poor student (everybody say awww) and as such can't afford a season ticket (although this season I'm actively saving for one for next season!). This was never a problem years ago, when I used to go and get a ticket after school from the ticket office with no trouble at all. But unfortunately with success comes people jumping on the bandwagon and as such I can't often get to FP. That said, I travel to away games (it's easier to get a ticket believe it or not!) so I expect to go to maybe 5 away games and 2 or 3 home games, ticket permitting. I do listen to every game and watch it if it's on sky.
Thanks to PFCGino for answering these.
