'If It's Football, It's Vital'

You're a legend Pedro!

I do not think that my admiration for Pedro Mendes is really that much of a secret is it, I think the fella is a fantastic footballer as I have often said and is a player that I would dearly love us to hold onto for as long as we can - and all being well we 'should' be holding onto him for this season anyway?

He will forever be a man that has a very, very special place in all of our hearts as when all is said and done, as much as things had been a team effort had he not scored those 2 screamers against Citeh in 'that game' in our 'great escape' season - goals that really set us on our way to survival - god only knows where we would be now...

Anyway, I digress; I did not think I could like the guy anymore than I did but after last nights friendly with Exeter - which granted I cannot remember a great deal about as I had '1 or 2' shandies, that OJ fella we have on trial looked handy though! - he took the time, and patience to get this photo taken with my sister-in-law to be.

Sue & Mendes

Ok, players have their photo taken with people all the time, its no big deal, but the thing that made this even more memorable and showed what a top man he is was the fact that my brother was busy taking other photos on his phone when Sue went for this photo so he did not get this the first time. Rather than move onto someone else, or just get on the team coach - as he had been trying to - as the apologies were issued to him for the hold up he just said it was not a problem, not to worry about it and was happy to wait whilst he got things sorted for the photo.

In all fairness most the players had time for the fans last night, signing autographs, taking photos, shaking hands and all that but his patience and willingness to spend the time with us and others made the whole night even more worthwhile. I also got to shake the great mans hand and my drunken words were 'you're a legend Pedro!' I might have just imagined it, but I think he said 'thanks' in reply...

Top man Pedro. To be honest on the Sunday at Southsea when the bus came to where I was standing, I caught Pedros attention & said a massive thank you for what he had done for me, for us & Pompey. He seemed quite touched & as I was as high on emotion as you can be, after that weekend. I'd hate to think where we might be if we hadn't stayed up that season. No David James, Sol Campbell, let alone a sniff of the FA Cup. Thank you Pedro, we love ya!

I put Pedro up there in my Pompey XI of the last few years..can't remember the last time he let anyone down. Exhibit A: Goals v man City to begin the survival (made a certain D James look quite foolish). Exhibit B' Starting player in FA Cup final after not getting too much action for the rest of the year.. Hello, I believe we won!! Answer that and stay fashionable, Mr Muntari

Absolutely agree, what a true proffessional the guy is. Thinks Harry surprised quite a few with the decision (and the right one I might add) to start with Pedro. That decision may also just do enough to make him realise that he is wanted here and he will stay. didn't manage to get to Essex, but will be at Swindon to see Crouchie make his debut, so hopefully a good evening in store.

Rug, I can almost smell the alcohol fumes from here ;o) glad a good time was had by all. A real gent as well as a legend, we could do with more like him. Great article for the family archive and cool photo for the family album boys. Way to go Sue! When daddy and uncle Rug start to indoctrinate Littlespoon with the Pompey legends in a year or so he will see mum in there too. Makes you proud :o)

Why does Pedro talk out of the side of his mouth? It makes me chuckle.

Rug, absoloutely Pedro is a gent. Infact almost all the players are fantastic with the fans, kids especially. How many other prem teams still have the contact we have with our players? Manure and Arsenal I know are bussed straight to the door and dont even acknowledge the fans. I hope we do all we can as a club to keep this interaction because I think it keeps the players concentrated on what it all means to us fans. Good on ya Sue for getting in the photo, did you get his number? lol

Rug, hope the coming season will be full of senseless, foul-tasting morning-after fumes following victory celebrations when Pedro and the guys do us proud again this year. When you slunk back in from Bow this morning I meant to ask you, did you make it up all those stairs to bed or did you crash on the sofa. Or did you veer left in the hallway instead and end up in the cot with Spoony? ;o)

lol Rug, I think you might have a bit of a man crush. Fair enough though he does have nice long hair.

In a more serious note though, thanks Pedro.

Matt, you are spot on because the moment I remember him talking out of the side of his mouth was on MOTD admitting after the match that he handballed it on the line and it was a stupid thing to do.

I like Pedro, he is a good contrast to some of the hefty players we have and his football looks almost "dainty". Very talented man and a different class as a man, to the likes of Ronaldho.

yep agreed, he really is a class proffessional on and off the pitch and i think if given the chance he will shine in the UEFA

I 've a feeling we'll see Mr Mendes feature alongside Lassie a lot more this year... With only four in the middle we'll need to be creative rather than muscley .. Pedro is one of our most creative players and could run Sulley very close for his place..
