'Arry to raid Chelski again?

'Arry to raid Chelski again?

Arsenal have often been seen as a 'feeder club' for us, or as most people say 'an Arsenal retirement village', either way I am happy to be viewed as such, but with us constantly 'linked' to so many Chelski players they could be about to take over that tag!

We signed Ben Sahar on loan until January recently and we are being constantly 'linked' with Shaun Wright-Phillips, but The News is today reporting that Harry Redknapp is 'closing in' on making Wayne Bridge his next big summer signing?

I would be more than happy to see Bridge sign - or to be honest Nicky Shorey who is also being linked - but in all honesty as much as I think we do need a new longer term left back at some point I would not put this as a priority, and the suggestion is that this has become the case.

Hermann Hreidarsson was fantastic last season, and whilst he is not getting any younger, in fact he has now turned 34, I would be happy to see him carry on this season. And that is said as much as I might like one of the other targets to sign - and this due simply to the fact that a winger and a creative midfielder are higher priorities for me.

Bridge would be a fantastic signing and given a choice I would go for him over Shorey, but besides Hreidarsson we already have Martin Cranie who could act as cover, along with Lauren, Noe Pamarot - although all right sided players - and Djimi Traore, but the latter two are being linked with moves to Hull.

I suspect that any move for Wright-Phillips would be on a season loan - which I would be happy with - so if we could do this, also get Bridge and find and sign that creative midfielder - Pablo Aimar perhaps? - then I would be ecstatic. That said I would forgo Bridge if this meant we would have to miss out on the other areas that need looking at more urgently - but that is just my own opinion.

What do we reckon guys - has Bridge become 'our no.1 target' as is being reported? Thoughts as always below please...

Maybe Harry is angling for a buy one get one free deal.

I reckon Kaboul is ahead of Bridge/Shorey in the "likelihood" stakes. I'm hopeful about SWP and have no opinion about Pablo Aimar.

Agree with a lot you said Rug. I was still holding out for Nephew Frank to join his Uncle Harry.
14/07/2008 12:07:00
The problem I have with Bridge is that he has been more than happy to simply be a bench warmer for far too long now. Does he still have the motivation to play football or is all just about the money?
14/07/2008 13:03:00
and he is a SCUMMER through and through. A good player and certainly better than we've got, but would a few bad performances result in the crowd turning on him? Who could forget his celebration at Stamford Bridge a few years back?! I'd rather have Shorey for this reason
14/07/2008 13:43:00
Bridge would be a good long term solution to left back. Have to agree that SWP and a central midfield playmaker should be the priority though and therefore don't understand what the big fuss is over getting Kaboul. We have enough to get by at that position and unless money's growing on trees it's an unnecessary luxury. As for Bridge being an ex Scummer, so is Arry, Crouch, & Cranie. What matter is that he pless well for us & I otherwise couldn't give a rat's derriere.
14/07/2008 14:35:00
I think Harry would make Bridge a fantastic player again (like he was with . . . spit . . . The Scum) So Bridge, SWP, Kaboul and Menes and I'm in Heaven.

Let Utaka go back to Rennes (or who'll ever take him) use that money and bit of ready cash to snap up SWP, find a decent centre half to replace Campbell (he's passed it IMHO and the others at the club aren't of the standard we should be aspiring to if we're going to replace him) and if we get a left back and /or central midfielder that would be the icing on the cake.
14/07/2008 17:23:00
I think Campbell still has some life in him yet. I thought we had loads of midfielders but needed a left back and a right winger? Utaka can go - anywhere, although a lot of people think he will come good this year. (I'm not one of them).

I've mentioned before, I was at the Bridge when he did his gloating over us after scoring, I forgave Harry, I'll overlook Crouchs indiscretion with the other lot, but Bridge is a 5CUMMER through and through

Another loan for Oxlade-Chamberlain

As I think we all know by now Oxlade-Chamberlain is the son of former Pompey winger Mark Chamberlain and the brother of Arsenal's & England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
