Arsenal have often been seen as a 'feeder club' for us, or as most people say 'an Arsenal retirement village', either way I am happy to be viewed as such, but with us constantly 'linked' to so many Chelski players they could be about to take over that tag!
We signed Ben Sahar on loan until January recently and we are being constantly 'linked' with Shaun Wright-Phillips, but The News is today reporting that Harry Redknapp is 'closing in' on making Wayne Bridge his next big summer signing?
I would be more than happy to see Bridge sign - or to be honest Nicky Shorey who is also being linked - but in all honesty as much as I think we do need a new longer term left back at some point I would not put this as a priority, and the suggestion is that this has become the case.
Hermann Hreidarsson was fantastic last season, and whilst he is not getting any younger, in fact he has now turned 34, I would be happy to see him carry on this season. And that is said as much as I might like one of the other targets to sign - and this due simply to the fact that a winger and a creative midfielder are higher priorities for me.
Bridge would be a fantastic signing and given a choice I would go for him over Shorey, but besides Hreidarsson we already have Martin Cranie who could act as cover, along with Lauren, Noe Pamarot - although all right sided players - and Djimi Traore, but the latter two are being linked with moves to Hull.
I suspect that any move for Wright-Phillips would be on a season loan - which I would be happy with - so if we could do this, also get Bridge and find and sign that creative midfielder - Pablo Aimar perhaps? - then I would be ecstatic. That said I would forgo Bridge if this meant we would have to miss out on the other areas that need looking at more urgently - but that is just my own opinion.
What do we reckon guys - has Bridge become 'our no.1 target' as is being reported? Thoughts as always below please...
