Davis to break Hull's transfer record?

Reports in the Daily Mirror today 'claim' that Sean Davis is about to leave Pompey to sign for topflight new boys Hull for what will be a club record £2.25m.

A few players will inevitably go, and Davis - as much as I do like him - has looked like being one of them for some time, so if he did go it would not be a surprise to me and to be honest although some might think a little over £2m might be a bit cheap, I do not think it is too bad. We must remember that he is in the final year of his contract and if we do not either extend this or sell him before January he could then arrange a bosman free from the turn of the year for next summer...

All we can do is sit and wait, but Harry Redknapp does want to sign other players and although I do not entirely believe all the 'we must sell first before we buy as we have used up all our transfer kitty' news that is being bounced around by the tabloids, we clearly do need to raise a bit here and there to help 'balance the books' as well.

What do we reckon guys - will Davis go to Hull or is this just weekend paper talk? As always thoughts below please...

is the pic really the essential thing here... but, as you ask it was the goal celebration for his goal 'that never was' against reading in our 7-4 win last season. he never scores, so when he did people were happy - then he got the goal taken away from him...

i like davis, he was our best players in the early months of last season for me but when others arrived he was pushed out - he has been very much out of favour since we went to spain in that training camp hasnt he...
im not saying i want him to go, but i would rather he went than some others, and £2.25m wouldnt be bad money - it would see us recoup what we paid spurs for him i reckon as when you like as what we paid for him, mendes and paramount he couldnt have cost much more than £2m? and he has more than helped repay this fee anyway hasnt he...

Hull do seen to be the club (of the three coming up) that are linked to the most players and they do (alledgedly) has some dosh to spend.. For your first season in the prem you do need experienced pros and Davis is one, he is also one of those players that will generally give his all.. I'd be sad to see him go but realistically he's only gonna be a Pompey squad member at best this coming season.. So it could be a perfect match..he gets to stay in the prem and get first team action and be a big fish in the small Hull pond.. and Hull get a (just) better than average midfielder who is up for some heavy graft... I actually want Hull to stay up this year so if Sean does go it at least give me a reason to cheer them on..

davis was a strong batteling midfielder that was fantastic in the first couple of months but now he has no chance with diarra and mendes and muntari in front so i say let him go we are overloaded in the centre of the park we need some wide players.

I'd be gutted to see him go, and I don't think he will, with our extended workload next season he will get this fair share of matches

when he first came, didn't like what i saw and wrote him off, his next season he made me eat my words. he can do a good job when he comes in but he's unlikely to be a first name on the teamsheet often now. So good luck Sean hope it works out for you, thanks for all you've done.

Shame to see him go but has seemed to got on the wrong side of Harry. He is at best a squad/on the bench player & if he wants to go & we get a reasonable price, then so be it. We can't keep them all happy. Just surprised it's Hull!

Be sorry to see Sean go he was the lynchpin of midfield during the first half of last season until Diarra came along and we do need cover. But if he wants to go we need to thanks and good luck!

I wish it was either Diop or Muntari going, Davis gave 100%, they do not. Price should be a minimum of £3 million.

nah get rid of the headless chicken, it would be a dream move anywhere away from pomey would make it a dream move for me, I HAD A GREAT IDEA send him to scum. He aint good enough, and as soon as we got some quality it really showed. lynchpin???? Good luck to him.He has given good service to Pompey and will inly be a squad player at best this season and he deserves more. Pompey have players to cover him so its good business all round.

E_T_P, i thought so at first; then i found player cam! Honest endeavour is one thing (Hughes) but when it attached to an inability to shoot, tackle and hold a position :VP comments about headless last season, then that is another. Then there was his continual briefing and moaning to the press. I also think sadly Hughes is probably not good enough now apart from Man U and liverpool games where he excels but he has a different attitude, knows what he should be doing and can takle. Nope i have seen almost every game since headless got here and can only think of two where he justified himself, sell to fund.

Pretty damming Russ.. Is he out on a limb in terms of player cam scrutiny or are these others who flatter to decieve when viewed so closely.. I've no one in mind just interested to get a different perspective..

If Hull want Traore they must be one of the favourites to be relegated.

I thnk the press is spreading rumours about the headless chicken just to tantalize you russ :). Keep Hughes. He's solid people, never complains and pure heart. Stick him and Diop on in games when we're 2-0 up with 30 to play.
