Peter Crouch has finally completed his return to Pompey, with the final details ironed out and his undisclosed - but reported £11m - club record signing from Liverpool rubberstamped, with things confirmed in this afternoons press conference, which confirmed his signing on a 4-year-contract.
We knew this had been coming for sometime, but it is good to get it fully completed and for us to be able to welcome him back 100% as a Pompey player, and I am certain he will prove a fantastic signing once again - as he did the first time we signed him, but he will stay much longer this time too...
What a mouth-watering prospect a pairing of Crouch and Jermain Defoe is, there are not any other all English strike pairings in the top flight are there?
The strikers that we have this season look fantastic do they not? On paper if nothing else - now is the time for this to be proven! All we need now is for Kanu to agree to his contract that he has been offered - and only on the terms offered! - and we are laughing.
The press conference, scheduled for 1pm finally started around 1.30ish with Peter Storrie, Harry Redknapp and of course Crouch in attendance. All spoke about what a great signing he will be and how it shows further signs of our ambition and the giant strides forward we are making, with the England man insisting that he had his heart set on a return to Pompey, and Pompey alone once an interest was revealed to Liverpool at the end of last season. He also believes that Redknapp brings the best out of him so to work for him again meant a lot to him.
When Redknapp entered the press conference he said 'Hello Peter', and at the end of this he claimed that this was the first time that he had spoken to Crouch in person since last summer when we won the Asia Trophy!
Rumours had been circulating that another player could be unveiled today as well, but this was not the case but more signings are expected.
So guys, it is finally done. I am delighted, as I think he is a fantastic signing, as ever thoughts on this please...

im not expecting too much, and will not be 'demanding' we do this and do that but i honestly think that we can challenge the top 4 this season - liverpool are there for the taking, and as long as they have benitez in charge this will remain the case... he is a good manager, but he doesnt seem to graspt the league, champions league seems to mean more - maybe thats the foreign manager not grasping the league system?
if everton can challenge, spurs and villa think they can get 4th why cant we? again tho i cannot stress im not expecting this, but with goal now looking very possible, if we find the right service we can make even more of a step up...
That is an exciting thought
- FA Cup winners
- new, Herzog & de Meuron, designer stadium on the coast
- supplying the core of The England team
- a venue for a imminent World Cup
- regular European competitors
- possibly breaking the stranglehold of the 'Big Four'
What a time to be supporting Pompey; how can any kids in Portsmouth walk around in Man Ure, arsenal and Chelsea shirts?
