Citeh to get Ben Haim/Hazard and McLoughlin/Igoe

Citeh to get Ben Haim/Hazard and McLoughlin/Igoe

The reports are that Citeh have 'beaten us' to the signing of Chelski defender Tal Ben Haim, with a £5m move close...

Ah well, I am sure we will get over it!

To be honest I am not really a fan of the defender anyway, and at £5m I would not want us to touch him as Younes Kaboul, who would reportedly cost around the same amount is a much better long term product for me.

Nope, I will not lose any sleep at all should we have been 'beaten' to his signature - if this is even true - as the defenders that we already have that could step into the central defensive breach are as good, if not better than Ben Haim anyway for me...

==========

Looking around t'internet as one does I could not help but notice something about former Pompey footballer Micky Hazard.

After reading more about it in the Swindon Advertiser I found out that he, along with another former Swindon and Pompey man Alan McLoughlin will be co-hosting a hospitality event ahead of the Swindon v Pompey pre-season friendly next Friday. The event will include a questions and answers session next to the County Ground in what is described as 'a specially commissioned marquee'.

The tickets cost £75 plus VAT and preferential booking will be given to season ticket holders. The package includes exclusive access to the marquee, pre-match team news, a complimentary match day magazine, a buffet, tea and coffee and reserved executive stadium seating.

I am not sure if this is exclusive only to Swindon fans or not, but maybe some Pompey fans - if they can - could be interested, so I thought I would share this info... To book contact the Swindon marketing department on 0844 8801094 or via email on sales@swindontownfc.co.uk.

Since retiring from the game in the mid 90s, having coached at Palace and Spurs Hazard now drives a London black cab 3 days a week...

==========

And finally, who remembers Sammy Igoe?

I know that I do, as he was one going to be 'one of the next big things'... sadly this never proved the case. He had talent and ability, but never reached the heights that it was hoped that he would.

After leaving Pompey in the late 90s - being one of many that had to go with us in severe financial trouble - he went on to eventually play for Swindon along with Stefani Miglioranzi, I think both captained them over the years? He spent last season with Bristol Rovers who released him this summer but Kevin Bond, who worked with him at Pompey, is now looking to give him a possible lifeline at Bournemouth, where he is on trial - however he cannot be signed until their own problems are sorted out.

I remember someone mentioning Igoe recently and they said something like 'looking back 10-years or so to see that he was our best player shows how far we have come'... it certainly does, but good luck to the little man regardless.

Thoughts on him, and all of the above would be welcomed if you please guys...

Ahhh. Micky Hazard. A good midfielder who did well at Spurs but in the shadow of Glenn Hoddle. I was quite chuffed at the time when he came to us. Sammy Igoe with John Durnin, keeping us up in the dark days. Wishing them all well. As Ben, we miss one, another comes along which sometimes is better for us.

It can't have helped that Sammy Igoe was a very heavy smoker! I wonder if he still is?

Me too Et-tu... I don't rate him at all and wondered why Chelsea bought him in the first place. Wish Sammy Igoe well whether it be Hereford or The Cherries... Never knew he smoked !

Good luck Sammy Igoe. Was definately a big player for us even if no one else. I quite fancy the Swindon v Pompey tickets as I don't see much of Pompey during the season and I love a good buffet.
