The boys are back in town!

The boys are back in town!

It seems like only yesterday that we were winning the FA cup, but we are now back in pre-season training, well with the exception of a few players, mostly those involved in the Euros or international games over the summer along with David James - all of which have been given an extra few days leave before returning later this week, or sometime next.

The lads were put through their paces as their fitness was checked, with almost all of the squad - bar the notable exceptions - including the returning Linvoy Primus, back after his yearlong injury and a new face, but a face and/or name that plenty will know Celestine Babayaro.

The Nigerian former Chelski and Newcastle full back is training with the team for a week, which I guess is 'a trial' ahead of a possible move? I believe Babayaro might still be a free agent following his release by Newcastle last season...

Here are some images courtesy of the Pompey Site.

pre-season1
New loanee Ben Sahar battles with Arnold Mvuemba during what I assume was the '2 touch' game played... I could be wrong but I think it is Danijel Subotic behind them?

pre-season2
What a welcome site, Linvoy Primus among those put through there paces. I think the 3rd one in is Chix's favourite Richard Duffy! And next to him I believe is Babayaro.

pre-season3
'I'm free', Sol Campbell puts the 'camp' in Campbell here as Marc Wilson gives a 'what are you doing' look... No doubt Papa Bouba Diop is lining up a shot as Martin Cranie looks on, surely planning to start a book on how high and wide it will be!

pre-season4
The master in action - from this shot alone you can see the style, grace and finesse that Pedro Mendes has and I reckon the no.15 you can see the legs of belongs to the one, the only, the legend that is Djimi Traore...

pre-season5
Sahar again with Sean Davis looking as though he is about to do his metatarsal! Maybe it is because of his 'red boots' Red boots! What is he thinking...

It is great to have the guys back in training, next week they are off to my part of the world for a training camp in Devon ahead of the friendly with Exeter next Wednesday night - I cannot wait!

So where is Babayaro? Apparantly he is having a trial. the left back is on a free from Newcastle. PS. Great headline, great song, great band. (showing my age again).

Rug .. Do you know where the boys are staying in Devon.. Is it one of my old haunts ? ... might be worth a trip just ot say hello and get an exclusive or two ... If you don't know, let me and I'll happily spill the beans .. but not publicly as that aint fair.. Unless of course you are Manchester United playing Exeter and you provide the locals with pots and pans and throw an all night party so they couldn't sleep.. as if I'd do something like that.. ah my days in Devon .. what happy memories ..

Is Kanu back in training, or is that a silly question.

Great to see Linvoy with dreads flapping in the wind! Made my day when I saw pictures of him training online yesterday.

babayaro is probaly going to being signed as cover, not as a regular. He is a free agent with a lot of Prem experience so why not sign him for a year ? If we are ravaged by injury we would be more than happy to have him playing. It also gives Harry extra cover in the middle with both Herman and Noe being able to play there if necessary rather than left back. Having said all that, I would still hope we sign a recognised left back. Shorey might get a better welcome than Bridge, but at the end of the day, if they are proud to pull on the blue shirt then their previous "errors of judgement" shouldn't be held against them ! Crouchie, we welcome you with open arms !!
