'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Give Kanu a year with the option of another!

Kanu should get a year long contract with the option of another year to follow if he makes a certain amount of performances again, not my vote, yours - and these findings from Chix's poll are thoughts I do not agree with at all myself to be honest!

Quite what the score is with 'King Kanu' is anybodies guess; a contract has been on the table since January. He says he wants to stay, we say we want to keep him yet still for some reason this remains unsigned... then suddenly recently came the reported 'give me the 2-years that I deserve.' A feeling of déjà vu or what!

How true this is remains to be seen, but he has since said that only a few 'minor details' need sorting, but he will sign the deal - no doubt well into pre-season training so he can avoid as much of this as is humanly possible...

At the end of the day he got his own way last summer, we buckled under the pressure and gave him what he wanted - this summer we are in the dominant position, so if he insists on getting a 2-year contract this time we must call his bluff, and follow through with our threats that he takes what is on offer or he goes, and if he does go what better way to go than scoring the winning goal in the cup final eh!

Do not be greedy Mr Kanu, we agreed a fair deal with you last summer, now honour your half of the deal or move on to someone that will give you 2-years, if anyone will... it is quite simply that simple really isn't it.

  • What the poll asked - If you were Harry & Peter what would you say to Kanu?

  • How you voted - 2 years - How about one with a clause 38%, 2 years - It's one or nothing 21%, 2 years - There's the door - bye! 16%, 2 years - let's make it 3 12%, 2 years - Think yourself lucky to get 1 8%, 2 years - Oh not again - just leave now 3%, 2 years - of course your highness 1%, 2 years - Oh ok why not 1%

  • Current Poll - We are building up our striking options, so we at least 'appear' to have goals in us next season...

Can our strike force be as potent as we hope, either way who will net us the most goals this season - this is what russellm wants to know with this - 'Assuming the transfer targets arrive; who will be the leading goal scorer this season?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Grateful as we will always be to Kanu for his Wembley goals. Not forgetting his contributions on the pitch over the last 2 seasons. Appreciative of his status that has led to other African stars coming to Pompey. STOP. If we cut players like Benji, Matty & GON we can cut Kanu.
    storagematt
Agreed matt and Rug, we can do well without. It would be bad for the club to buckle to his demands.
    007
Well said Matt and 007, thanks for all you have done Kanu, but I think if you want more than one year on your contract you should be looking to play elsewhere.
    sneakay
I agree with Matt and Rug. Kanu has gone too far, for us to buckle will send out the wrong message.

I voted for '2 years - There's the door - bye!' but I don't think in reality I would have been that polite.... for me he'll always (now) be remembered as a greedy lazy lanky ***** who scored the winning goal in the cup final.. Sounds harsh I know but he wants individual credit for a team game... Sling it sunshine... You aint the player you think you are .. in fact I'm not convinced you ever were..
    Chix
I think he has been offered ayear with an option for another year o the same terms as last week. The message from Nigeria is that he has agreed and will sign as soon as he returns from holiday.

Kanu still on Holiday missing pre season training again hes meant to be back on Monday .we shall see in my opinion for what its worth Kanus been on one long holiday at Pompey the sooner he goes the better. as for another year after this season No Chance

the 2 most important goals in portsmouth history have been scored by Kanu, semi final and final of the FA cup, If I was you I would show some respect, because once he is gone it will take you another century to win anything.
    bongosamy
sorry bongosamy i disagree... whilst i agree kanu scored 2 of the most important goals in our recent history, they are not the 2 most important in our history - nor did we win the fa cup simply because of kanu - he just happened to be in the right place at the right time...simple truth is we dont need kanu anymore, and if he thinks that we cannot go on without him he - and sorry mate, but you - are sorely mistaken!
that said i would be happy if we kept him this season, but he should only be given the 1-year contract on the terms agreed last summer, a year plus a year if he played enough games. he did this, give him his year if he wants more show him the door - with thanks of course, he does deserve that but nothing more...
